- Star Spangled Banner and Lupang Hinirang (Anthems of the United States and the Republic of the Philippines). FASO concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, CA.
The Filipino American Symphony Orchestra
In 2008, a group of musicians and community leaders founded the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra (FASO). FASO’s founders recognized the necessity to celebrate the booming Filipino American community, one of the top five largest immigrant groups in the United States, through music.
Many musicians have migrated from the Philippines to the United States. Their musical lineage can be traced - from the multiplicity of musical traditions indigenous to the Philippines’ many islands, to the country’s colonial past that includes Spain’s imposition and the United States’ reinforcement of Western musical traditions, all the way to our globalized present. With this rich heritage, FASO is uniquely positioned to showcase a cultural synthesis of international musical traditions.
Guided by the passion to cultivate musical artistry and to present its unique cultural heritage, FASO, led by Musical Director Robert A. Shroder, made its debut on May 17, 2009, at the historic Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, California. FASO has gone on to perform at many venues and events across California: the Wilshire Theater (2009), the Pasadena Civic Auditorium (2009-2010), the San Diego Rock Church Auditorium (2010), LA Cathedral of Angels (2011), the Ford Amphitheater (2012), the Annual Festival of Philippine Culture (2012-2014), the Alex Theater (2014-2018), the John Wayne Performing Arts Center (2016-2017), the Arcadia Performing Arts Center (2017), White Memorial Church (2019), and the Walt Disney Concert Hall (2019).
With its diverse body of musicians from all walks of life, FASO continues to embrace, redefine and celebrate its multicultural musical legacy. FASO has received multiple awards for its work - the Los Angeles City Council honored FASO for its “great contribution to the City of Los Angeles” in a public presentation at City Hall on Sept. 28, 2018. FASO also received the 2019 National Federation of Filipino American Associations Trailblazer Award for uplifting future generations of Filipino Americans and the global Filipino community, and the 2016 Historical Heritage Excellence Award from the San Diego Filipino American Humanitarian Foundation.
In 2016, FASO launched its Education & Outreach Program, which empowers new generations of Filipino Americans to develop love and pride in their music, as well as in their identities. This music education program that is open to all includes instrumental, songwriting, vocal, and Philippine music appreciation workshops. In 2018, the program introduced an annual International Composition Competition for Philippine Folk Music, which challenges emerging composers to incorporate Philippine folk music material in their work. That same year, the orchestra established its College Scholarship for high school seniors.
In September 2018, the Education & Outreach Program founded the FASO String Ensemble, which serves over 40 young musicians from underserved communities between the ages of 8 and 15. Ensemble members receive free access to instruments and affordable music instruction from professional musicians.
Got goosebumps when the crowd really did sang the Philippine National Anthem
Thank you!
The crowd gives me chills when they sang
It's a beautiful thing that the National Anthem of the Philippines is an anthem that regular people can sing in terms of vocal range - it allows public participation.
*plays violin*🎻
I'm a Filipino. I feel very patriotic when I always hear the Philippine national anthem and the people sing loud and proud!
Also very nice renedition of both anthems!
One word to describe their rendition of "#LupangHinirang": GLORIOUS!!!
You're name is a combination of the names
Boris Yeltsin
Mikhail Gorbachev
Both are soviet union leader

@@Nakakapagpabagabagabag I'm a fan of Soviet Union
Are you my fellow Comrades?
Salute to those people who still put their right hand to their left chest.
You can put your hands when you see the Philippine flag, and you are not required to put your hand on your chest if you don't see the Philippine flag.
@Dhen Arts YEAHH UR RIGHT! You should only put your right hand in your left chest when you see a ph flag.. but if you don't see it, you can just stand up and sing...
Ngl the two anthem fits perfectly together during the japanese war in WW2
When the first note of Philippine National Anthem was played, I was like... THAT WAS HIGHHHH!!!!!
I'm happy that foreigners try to play our anthem and that's make me proud
Thanks for playing our anthem
I really appreciate it.
Thank you!
Philippine National Anthem is literally a uplifting, encouraging, hopeful, strong, proudly marching song.
Thank you!
I felt goosebumps when the crowd sang the Philippine national anthem.
Special thanks to the conductor who gestured the people to sing the Philippine National Anthem.
When people sing this with much gusto, i feel like i am proud that I was born a Filipino.
I hope that people here in the Philippines will sing our own anthem in the same manner that these people sang, not just putting the palm into the chest and staring at the flag.
MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS! 🇵🇭
The best version of the Philippine national anthem so far! Keep it up.
Thank you!
So true. They should release a recorded version of this because some of the versions used in schools already sound too outdated.
Great job! 😊
@@jetzume Yeah, this also sounds more musical and fluid and it's in F instead of G which I find difficult. The official version sounds too restricted on the ends of each measure and the quality is just meh. In this version, you can hear that the orchestra doesn't do that for certain instruments and also because of the acoustics of the hall which means it's continuous and imo adds a much needed sense of flow and beauty to the composition.
The national anthem of the Philippines became a real flag ceremony😍😍😍😍😍
Beautiful execution of the two national anthems.
Thank you!
You don't just hear it with the symphony but thru our voices too. 🇵🇭
Mabuhay! Well said kabayan.
Mabuhay!
Such a sad fact realizing that at school we use to plead our allegiance to our country by singing our national anthem and reciting our patriotic oath but at the later days of life many Filipinos would choose to live in other countries in search of better life. Well, we can't blame them, settling in this country is indeed hard, but it shouldn't mean they or we leave behind our responsibilities to our country and our countrymen.
I remember my 97 year old father a veteran of the Commonwealth Philippines singing this Star spangeld father when I requested him to sing it for me.
Sometime in 1990 while I was in Toronto, A fiesta a San Pablo City fiesta celebration was held. There I met my friend back in grade one at San Pablo Central school Edgardo Alanguilan. The Lupang Hinirang was first played before O Canada before the event statt. At first we all Filipinos except me not as FilCan sing Lupang hinirang loud and clear with words and music but at tge middle of the hymn I realuzed I was the onky one singing it clearly the rest murmuring evidently no lobger memorized the Lupang Hinirang.
Gosh the PH National Anthem! I heard the very rich history, the wars won, the heroes who fought! Gave me chills!

Mabuhay! Thank you.
When they first opened Disney Hall, it was a dream of mine to play on that stage. I got that chance with FASO. Thank you Maestro Bob for that opportunity
May God Bless the Philippines & Filipino people, always! In my many years in Philippines I can proudly say I love the people, their culture, their smiles, & their courage. It's been my good fortune to have to have met & enjoyed their friendship. Mabuhay.
Maraming Salamat. Mabuhay!

This video shows the contrast of practice between Americans and Filipinos when it comes to their National Anthems.
It has often been said that the Star Spangled Banner is a bit difficult to sing and Americans have often heard it sung by a single singer, so not as many members of the audience joined in the singing (considering this was performed in the U.S.).
Meanwhile, Filipinos are expected to sing the National Anthem loudly and without flourish, and it is typically arranged for people to join in. Thus, you can hear how loudly members of the audience sang it.
Lovely arrangements and performance for both anthems!
Indeed! Thank you for your comment.

And now, for the first time in history, our anthem was played at the Olympics!
This hits different every July 4th; once celebrated as our independence from Washington, we commemorate it as Fil-Am Friendship Day.
Our national anthem always gives me a chill.
As far as I know, the only national anthem that changes key going down, not up. Such a patriotic tune. Mabuhay Pilipinas.
Thank you!
Napakaganda talaga pakinggan ng ating Pambansang Awit! Nakakaluha!

Oo..
I cried when I heard my country's national anthem, I know inside my heart that I will die for her, my mother land.
Images of men and women carrying only farm tools and bolos charging through rifle and cannon fire of the hated invaders plays in my mind everytime I hear the last phrase of Lupang Hinirang "ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo..."
Did you know the third most spoken language in California and Nevada is Tagalog.
eyyyyyyyyyyy!!! always a goosebumps whenever I hear this very majestic Philippine National Anthem. wow

its required to stand up and put your hands onto your heart when this play and sing cause we treasure our anthem so much that if its played anywhere we need to stop and pay attention
You only need to put your hands onto your chest when there is a PH flag being raised or hanged but it is really required to stand up upon hearing the national anthem.

USA National Anthem Lyrics.
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light.
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that *Star Spangled Banner* yet wave.
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Philippine National Anthem Lyrics.
Tagumpay na nagniningning;
Ang bituin at araw niya
Kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim.
Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya na pag may mang-aapi,
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.
Mabuhay tayo mga philippinas ❤🇵🇭
