IIRC the way GW shoots them is to have the same ratio between the side of the base from bottom to top and the flat base itself, so an angle slightly above the mini looking down on it, with the base and the base side being equal "height" in the photo. Good luck!
So great to see so much progress, really enjoyed the update. Thank you for the shout out, loved doing the Landship, and can’t wait for my Dwarfs to join you as allies at CrackCon.
Such a cool army project. Really awesome minis and lore that you have come up with. The landship that Stu did is fantastic, such a great kit done to a very high standard (particularly love Stu's wood recipe).
Great stuff, Jordan! I'm still loving the roleplay aspect of your army, the fact that there's stories being told and a real history behind it. I haven't encountered much of that in my (very) limited experience with the wargaming aspect of Warhammer. And yeah, I still feel you on the painting, that was always the roughest part for me when it came to minis.
This is a great video and I'm delighted to see your excitement about painting the army as I know it's not your favourite part of the hobby. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it develops over time. I love the halfling "periscope" on the ogre for the flood narrative! Also, I do the same with the hobby deck, I end up at the kitchen table with it and I'm very happy there. However, being able to get up and move to the couch when it's time to watch a movie with the family is also amazing.
Hi Jordan, I love collecting and building the minis and I am in the same boat as you.painting can sometimes feel like a chore and from what I learnt, you will always be the cruelest critic to yourself for the small flaws. During the pandemic I started to paint up my half chapter of space marines I had collected. Yes they won’t win golden demon or even a local competition but I learned to love my painting to a standard I was happy (base colours and washing). I found painting just a mini at a time was good and only when I felt like painting. I found forcing myself to paint only discouraged myself and just burnt out my enthusiasm with the hobby. Take your time and be happy with your efforts. 😊
Well done for painting the halflings! Definitely think the way to go is to focus on your brush control and getting solid clean basecoats on each part of the miniature. You can get fancy once you master that!
Are you making a video about the history of the Land Ships? Would love to know about that. Love the story you are creating! And congrats on your painting!
So awesome to hear that you're finding a way to engage with this part of the hobby. Frustration will definitely come, it's part of the experience. But more practice means better results.
Nice on the paints from Duncan. Your miniatures look great. I am looking forward to seeing your completed miniatures.❤👍 Edit- enjoy painting those old metal miniatures, theyre magical. 🥲
I have only just come across your channel, so haven't encountered this project before. Sounds amazing! I particularly love that you're using Deadly Nightshade as a common theme - that was my favourite Citadel colour way back when I started in the hobby in about 1997/8 - 2nd Ed 40k! I was devastated when they refreshed the range and got rid of it. I look forward to seeing more! PS: big mood on the cat fluff - every surface in my flat seems to be covered in it no matter how often I clean!
Looks like you're making great progress! Painting gets easier with time, don't worry. 😀 Also don't forget about "the ugly phase". Duncan may be able to make a mini look good with just a base coat, but for most of us, there's a long phase in the middle of painting a mini where it just looks ugly and hopeless. I don't know of any solution other than to persevere and get to the finishing steps where suddenly it all comes together. That middle stage is where a lot of minis get stuck on my desk. P.S. I think Martha is trying to tell you that your army needs a Sphiranx.
i said before...a unit of Sea Elves and Dwarf Seaman in your army as an act of co operation...but also to protect there interest's !...would so do this for an army.
*Every* paint job goes through an ugly phase, *every* paintjob involves repeatedly tidying up and repairing mistakes and slips of the brush. Too few painting guides or tutorials show this! Knowing this may not make it any less frustrating when it happens to you but please know you're not alone when you experience those frustrations, and also know that those halflings look great. 🙂
Agreed! I always have a spare brush on hand to remove mistakes/clean of excess wash etc. and am constantly going “back” to tidy up that tiny bit of paint that got on the wrong bit
The easiest way to incorporate the Gargoyles, I would guess, is to use them as Harpies from the Beastmen/Dark elf armies. Maybe modify their I and T to better represent their lineage. Dunno if there are any other flying infantry units in TOW.
I can asure you that your brush holding techniques and painting skill ARE GOING TO improve, but you must stick to it and practice, practice, practice....Happy painting!
Apologies for the appalling quality of the miniatures photography - I had a number of technical issues and ran out of time to fix them!
IIRC the way GW shoots them is to have the same ratio between the side of the base from bottom to top and the flat base itself, so an angle slightly above the mini looking down on it, with the base and the base side being equal "height" in the photo. Good luck!
Maybe black background would be better?
I guess it depends on what your'e going for.
I think the biggest problem is your white background. Change it out for a middle grey and everything will look much better. :)
While they're objectively not great shots, I have to say the one at 12:00 has that Rotoscoped Rankin Bass Lord of the Ring feel that I love !
'Using it while sitting on the arm chair, whilst watching Star Trek: Voyager' That is sheer joy, I can definitely relate
So great to see so much progress, really enjoyed the update. Thank you for the shout out, loved doing the Landship, and can’t wait for my Dwarfs to join you as allies at CrackCon.
Such an awesome love letter both to the game and to the community, with so many people coming together to make this army happen.
very entertaining. can't wait to the next one

So jealous! Great stuff.

I fkn love Duncan Rhodes and his paint line. I dont know what it is but the bottle itself is just so satisfying to hold.
The bottle is the one holding me back on from getting them to try out. I have some vallejo and hate them.

lol we've been watching voyager too. "We are as one."

Love the story you are creating! And congrats on your painting!
Institutional Mentality. My punk band name, back in the mid 90's. Thanks for the share!!
So awesome to hear that you're finding a way to engage with this part of the hobby. Frustration will definitely come, it's part of the experience. But more practice means better results.
Great Update, you have such amazing fans. The creatures from the mist (maybe also a future project of mine) sound ecxiting.

You can make things much easier on your hobby pain with the "slap chop" method. It just becomes a "paint between the lines" process.
This is Awesome!! It's like watching Nick Frosts stunt double painting Warhammer!!
Great update! A lot of work done, the halfling unit is great and so are the Ironsides, they look ace the way they are built!
Good effort on the model shots! Cool to see such an eclectic mix of dudes
that war machine is amazing. job well done!
For guy who puts down his painting ability they look great too me!
Thank you!
Great video.
Moss Troopers - like the pub in Timperley eh?
What!!! I am just beginning figuring out how to run a fimir army in old world super mega excited now!!!!

You know what I'm gonna say yeah ;)
Let me help too.
I’d love that, mate!
At 26:00 I thought, interesting, you are porting AoS orruks. Then as you continued I shifted to ‘fimir, fimir!!!’
Looks so pretty
i said before...a unit of Sea Elves and Dwarf Seaman in your army as an act of co operation...but also to protect there interest's !...would so do this for an army.
I’m keeping my eyes open for some classic sea elf minis!
You could count the Gargoyles as Chaos Furies or as Harpies
Martha is the absolute cutest 😻

I can never decide if Voyager or TNG is my favourite Star Trek series
I really wish someone would scan that landship

No matter what your minis look like it’s going to look better than bare grey or metal.
Which Voyager episodes did you watch? Who is your favourite Vulcan in all of Start Trek?
big cat

❤️🤘🔥
I found the angle of the turntable shots a bit weird… I usually look down on my minis from like 45 degrees above rather than straight on
I really messed up those turntable shots, I’m not sure what on earth I was doing! I’ll definitely be investing more time to get them right next time!
Is a couch similar to a settee? 🛋️
Better Latehammer than Neverhammer, I guess.
Why are your model shots so extremely bright and low resolution at the same time?
Catastrophic human error!
Personally I am not able to paint my own miniatures any longer due to my eyes being useless as I am an old person these days 😢
Tbh: stop making videos about this and just paint your miniatures. It could be so easy.
