went to a small engine mechanic to get the weed eater fixed before i found this video. wanted to charge me $110.00 to fix it without even looking at it. so glad you posted this video. turned the screw a quarter turn and it fired right up and kept running! thank you again!

And good tip on the dremel tool. The thinnest cutting wheel not only sliced neatly through the center of the screw so it could be adjusted with a flathead, it provided a guide sliced into the outer aluminum housing so you can tell how far you turn the screw within 180 degrees. Since it was idling fine, why did you richen the low speed jet first? This machine was starving for fuel at higher RPMs, not lower RPMs. It really never revved up properly until you fattened up the high speed jet anyway.
The low speed adjustment circuit also feeds the high speed circuit when the throttle is opened so richening the low also feeds /helps the high a little. The high just feeds at high speed. The other thing that happens is if the idle mixture is too lean the engine may stay running but can't transition from idle to a faster speed without bogging down. That is because the carb leans out until the engine is up to speed. Yes it appears the high speed needed adjustment also. There are good instructions how to adjust carbs on UA-cam. Basic, adjust low screw at idle and high screw at full speed. There is a span in the screw adjustment it will run the fastest, set in the middle of that range. If the engine still bogs when opening throttle turn the low screw counter clockwise a half turn to richen idle circuit.

According to the EPA they can fine someone over $3000 for selling that tool to you and it is illegal for you to make these adjustments. US Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40: Protection of Environment §1068.101(b) states: (2) Defeat devices. You may not knowingly manufacture, sell, offer to sell, or install, any part that bypasses, impairs, defeats, or disables the control of emissions of any regulated pollutant … (EPA) may assess a civil penalty up to $3,750 for each part in violation. By selling the carburetor adjustment tools to consumers or making it available on the internet, you may be viewed as selling a “Defeat device” and be subject to the above penalties. This is an example of the liberal progressive agenda to take away your freedom in the false pretense of protecting the environment. They really just want to control everything! Thanks for the tip! I have a Poulan P1500 trimmer. Same machine as you have there just with different decals. For some reason I thought the carb on mine was fixed, so I've dealt with the bogging when trying to give it throttle. Yesterday I was going over it, checking the muffler, cleaning and gapping the plug, etc... Low and behold, I actually saw those little splined adjustment screws. Now she fired up, idles, and revs without hesitation or bogging down. Love the channel and the tips you give. Keep up the good work!
Just want to say how your video saved me a lot of headache. I kept searching online on how to keep my P1500 from bogging down every time I put it on the "Run" setting and all I got from it was that I would be better off just trashing the trimmer. It took me about 5 minutes after I saw your video although I did have to adjust it with needle nose pliers. As soon as I got it running smoothly I saw your other video on the tool product number and purchased it on Ebay for $10 in case I need to do more adjusting in the future. Thanks again!!!
Thanks. Just bought a murray from Walmart of course. Spent an hour trying to work the darn thing. Wouldn't stay running. Watched your video, and BAM! Appreciate it
Wow! You were exactly right. I ordered this tool from amazon, and Set of 10. I also went to the Home Depot and got some liquid mechanic just to be sure. I used the liquid mechanic and it seemed to do the job for a second but it bogged down again. Maybe it cleaned it out BUT when I adjusted the carburetor it fixed it. Ithelped me out SO much. I was getting so mad when I try to trim my grass and it would bog down. A simple carburetor adjustment was all it took, thanks again!👍🏾
Great video, I have a trimmer that had been sitting for years because it did not run right and stalled when I hit the throttle, it is now running like a champ. I took the carb off and used a hacksaw to gently cut through the housing and notch the screws so a flat head screw driver could adjust them. Only took about 10 slow gentle swipes with the hacksaw, 0 dollars spent.Runs like new. Thank you!!
This video saved me $150! Thanks! I used a dremel to remove the shroud around the screws and cut slots in the screws for a screwdriver. Had to turn the high side out 3/4 turn and the low side 1/4 turn. Runs like new!!!
My Homelite would start and run on full choke but quit running on "run." This video helped immensely. Bought the tool set from Amazon for $20. Just adjusted the carb a few minutes ago and BAM! It runs like a well-tuned beast now. Thanks, Dony! $20 for tools I'll probably use once but saved me $$$ by not having to take it to a repair shop. Keep up the good work. Love your videos!!
Excellent. I just bought an old Homlite and this was the problem. Had to cut the plastic clips because it wouldn't let me turn out enough but now she works like charm! Great videos.
That fixed it! I had to remove a plastic "stopper/limiter" piece around the low speed needle. Slowly took the needle out and it came alive. Thanks man!
I've had my gas Troy bilt weed eater for several years and it has never worked worth a darn. I was ready to trash it the other day until I watched this video. It works great now. Thank you for the tip
thanks so much. I replaced the fuel lines. fixed the gas filter, which had fallen off in the tank and no go. caught this just 5 minutes ago and now my weed eater is working fine. thanks a ton :)
This is an excellent explanation on how to fix this problem. Just fyi, I used a small pair of needle nose pliers that I use for my crafts to twist those two little inset adjustment screws. Was a challenge, but worked. Thanks for being so informative and on the money with your instructions.
Happy, Happy, Happy, camper here. Been fighting my Murray 2 cycle trimmer for a year and a half with this problem. 1/2 turn BOOM works like a charm. Thanks for the info.
And I pressed the throttle...and for the first time ever, my brand new weedeater will actually throttle up and make that sound we all love. Thanks for this video.
Thank you! Rebuilt my carb (Walbro 628 on an old 32cc Craftsman trimmer) and couldn't get past the bog. Your vid gave me the info I needed. Runs like new now!
I have had one of these weed eaters for yrs,, never fails me,, it is light and fairly powerful. I always use shell premium and I have now started using Echo oil. Thanks for you videos as they are always great.
Sure glad to see this video Don. I got fed-up with mine doing the same thing so I went out and purchased a L-ion battery power trimmer. It gets the job done, but is not very powerful. I'll give this a try, and also check the spark arrestor if I'm still having the problem. Thanks!!!
Thanks I am happy to say my weedeater runs beautiful, And I am really happy to say it's a weedeater I found in the dump along with a 111 dollar titanium driver. So all in all I made a couple hundred bucks in less than an hour with your knowledge and someone else's ignorance at the dump. Thanks again!!! Oh I also subscribed
You're more patient than I am. Anything with a half crank engine I usually don't bother with! (I mow lawns for a living so full crank engines are a necessity) Nice clear video as well BTW.
exact same wacker exact same problem!!!!1 redid the fuel lines yesterday and filter kinda knew i was going to have the issue still... but after watching this i know where to look next thank you so much subbed!!!
Hi Don, another good video! Awhile back I paid $26.00 for that tool (Add stated-Item received will have a different handle design, but is functionally identical to picture shown.) It stated that it would fit Craftsman also. It did not. I ended up using an aluminum spacer, a nail & wooden dowel. This works. Got the idea from an eBay add for home made tool for sale. I try not to skimp on my tools but some times no choice. Current price on ebay $39.00
Yea right. I have done this and then starting chasing the idle and the other air screw to were it never runs right again!!! You made it look easy. Nice.
This FIXED my ECHO cutter and this taught me everything I needed to make much wow with it as well. I am very thankful for the knowledge that the author has freely given me.
This video helped me out alot. But I didn't want to spend money on the tool so I used a hack saw to make a cut all the way down to the left screw enough to turn it a half turn. It worked great!
Great vid This helped me fix my Weedeater That I trash picked from side of the road. After replacing gas lines it was running like this. I adjusted the screws using as electrical connector with needle nose Plyler It was about 3/4 turn on low and 1/4 on high
Donyboy rules! Another helpful video. I ended up using a blue plastic insulated wire connector thing-a-ma-jig which I turned with a pair of pliers. Worked great. Had my trimmer running nicely in about 10 minutes. 7 years I suffered because I didn't have this knowledge regarding these 2 carb adjusting screws. I used to ALWAYS have to run the trimmer with the choke 1/2 way. If I opened the choke up all the way, it would always die on me once I gave it some throttle. This quick adjustment works great! Thanks Donyboy!
I have to agree to disagree with Mr. jim bob's comment. That's like saying people shouldn't learn how to cook to support the restaurant industry. There will always be people out there that are afraid to touch their small engines etc. DonnyBoy73's videos are great and a wonderful service to the youtube community. Thanks DonnyBoy73!!
Hii Donyboy that’s a great video showing what really need to do. I am a mechanic for four stokes engine’s but you now those two small screws you showed to adjust with a special tools. Those screws I thought is original company adjusted we should not disturb and mess up the original setting. After you showed the adjustment. I think I have to try that I definitely.think it should start.nobody showed like this video good job and best of luck and Thanks
Had no carburetor adjusting tool and needle nose pliers wouldn't fit. I tried to cut a slot in the screw head for a flat-head screwdriver, but I don't have the right saw. I ended up finding a finely serrated steak knife and it did the job perfectly. Just 1/2 a turn counter-clockwise on the left screw and it finally doesn't stall out every time I throttle. Runs better than ever now, thanks!
Thank you!!! Had same problem. I turned left screw about 1/2 turn anticlockwise with a plastic hose. like you said do not fool around with the right screw very much or at all. It works like a charm now.
Thank you! I watched your video, listened to your advice, and wa-la! Now my Craftsman 25 cc trimmer doesn't bog down. I didn't have that tool, and a needle nose pliars was too big, so I used a small flat head screw driver. Thanks again.
Man i wish i saw your vids last year. Had this same problem with the same wacker, it pissed me off so bad i binned it. Gonna check your vids first from now on!! Lol. Thanx a million
Great video, after replacing gas lines and primer bulb I was able to adjust my weed wacker using your video. I didn’t have the proper tool so I used a small flat head and wedged it against the splines and twisted to adjust the mixture screws
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I’ve been fooling around with my club cadet weed eater and was just about to rebuild the carb. I did one last search and found your video. Now it’s running like a champ!
Thanks for this. My Weedeater was starting hard and only running at all in full choke mode. Man, I was thinking it might be time for a new carburetor. The instant I gave it any gas it bogged down and conked out. Then I watched your video. I turned the screw counterclockwise 1/4 of a turn and started her up and she ran like brand new. Plenty of power at full throttle and a nice gentle idle. Luckily I have the right tool for this so it was super easy.
Thanks Donyboy73. Your videos helped. I have an Echo SRM 3110, but, the concepts are all the same. I tried to clean out the spark arrestor, but, it was mostly clean to begin with. I had let mine sit with gas in it. I primed the carb with Mechanic in a Bottle, and let it sit for a few days. I also had to replace all the fuel lines and clean out the gas tank. I got it running, but, it still wouldn't rev all the way. I finally just took off the carb. It was mostly clean, but, I used Seafoam to wipe down the diaphragm in the bulb assembly, and, both sides of the intake gasket. They were minimally dirty in my opinion, but, it was enough to cause the problem. I reassembled, and ran like it was new.
I found one of these by my dumpster and decided to try saving it. I replaced the tank which was obviously gone the fuel lines were gone. I’ve noticed many 2 cycle manufacturers are either making it so you can’t adjust the carb at all or you need special tools. All in line with making you buy new parts or take it to a repair shop. Well when most people decide to go with electric yard tools they will learn
My weed whacker has a similar carb. set up, it's been driving me nuts all summer. It's brand new so I never thought about adjusting the carb. Thanks for the great info.
Thx. My Echo is doing the same thing. Definitely going to try this before a rebuild kit. My Echo will bog out even after a good hour of using and the unit is hot. I bought a new spark plug as well. Great video and advice. New subscriber here bud.
Thanks you very much for the video. I did what you suggested and my weedeater is working now. I didn't have a small vice grips, so I did use a dremel and made a slot. I didn't know what I was gonna do to fix it. Thanks again.

Why high octane?
That is so true. I purchase high octane fuel(No Ethanol) from Menards or Tractor Supply. It reduces damage to carb.
@snorman1951 92 High Octane Burns hotter which reduces carb damage from gumming. 85 burns lower which gums the carb

good idea.i'm jealous i didn't think of it first.
+Dan Dube how?
Dremel tool cut-off wheel
Yes you’ve mended my hedgecutter too. In the UK we have diy/trade stores called Screwfix. My hedgecutters are out of guarantee and stopped revving, bogging down as you described, I managed a quarter turn anti-clockwise with my penknife and it worked a treat!
Thank you for helping thousands of people around the world. 👍👍👍👍
EPA involvement in governing our carburetors has to stop.
Government in anything screws it up
Totally. Like who wants to grow up and stop being whiney and actually maintain their equipment, becsuse then they would look ike asshats trying to blame an agency that simply enforces US law, a law which would improve fuel consumption and engine performance if someone took the time to have property funtioning tools.
On par with defund the police.
@@claytonlowry1280fishing for gamefish would not exist in my state without government involvement. No private interest can profit with costs where they are today.
How is EPA getting into Canada?
Besides, we can hold our collective breath as Americans burn more coal than ever.
I did this and it worked, I have been screwing around with this machine for two days. I had it running in seconds. Thanks!
Boundless gratitude for imparting this knowledge. I would sooner caress shit and call it lover then continue tugging that cord like I was castrated and full of viagra. I will use this lesson tonight.

According to the EPA they can fine someone over $3000 for selling that tool to you and it is illegal for you to make these adjustments.
US Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40: Protection of Environment
§1068.101(b) states:
(2) Defeat devices. You may not knowingly manufacture, sell, offer to sell, or
install, any part that bypasses, impairs, defeats, or disables the control of
emissions of any regulated pollutant … (EPA) may assess a civil penalty up to
$3,750 for each part in violation.
By selling the carburetor adjustment tools to consumers or making it available on the
internet, you may be viewed as selling a “Defeat device” and be subject to the above
penalties.
This is an example of the liberal progressive agenda to take away your freedom in the false pretense of protecting the environment. They really just want to control everything!
RESIST: get a tool and adjust your 2 cycle carburetor. Vote for a conservative Government if you value YOUR FREEDOM!
Just wanted to stop by and thank you! I just fixed my new to me trimmer. Got it up and running in 5 mins. I used a Bic pen to make the adjustment
seriously, took 30 seconds and worked like a champs immediately. Thanks you saved me 100 plus bucks

Watched this video tweaked my weed eater a bit the same way you showed and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the info.
Happy, Happy, Happy, camper here. Been fighting my Murray 2 cycle trimmer for a year and a half with this problem. 1/2 turn BOOM works like a charm. Thanks for the info.
This is the best video on this I've watched so far. Thank you for making this easy to understand!
And I pressed the throttle...and for the first time ever, my brand new weedeater will actually throttle up and make that sound we all love.
Thanks for this video.
chipmafia you're welcome
You are a life saver! tried this on my Troy Build TB22 EC and worked like a charm. Thanks.
Thank you! Rebuilt my carb (Walbro 628 on an old 32cc Craftsman trimmer) and couldn't get past the bog. Your vid gave me the info I needed. Runs like new now!
THANKS! Just tried this out and it worked like a charm. I haven't been able to use my trimmer mid August and I bought it April 2013. Great video!!!!!
Thanks!!!
Pete Zeimet, Your video on the weed eaters are super. Very helpful to me to fix 2 weed eaters. thanks so much. Keep up the great videos.
This guy has a fix for every problem you could ever have
You're more patient than I am. Anything with a half crank engine I usually don't bother with! (I mow lawns for a living so full crank engines are a necessity) Nice clear video as well BTW.
thank you.it done the trick for me.keep up the good work.i dont know what we would do without your videos
exact same wacker exact same problem!!!!1
redid the fuel lines yesterday and filter kinda knew i was going to have the issue still...
but after watching this i know where to look next thank you so much
subbed!!!
Current price on ebay $39.00
thanks man! very useful, searched a dozen videos before finally someone tells me how to adjust a carburetor!
Yea right. I have done this and then starting chasing the idle and the other air screw to were it never runs right again!!! You made it look easy. Nice.
Just fixed 2 of mine.. with an old pen and a pair of pliers. Excellent!!! Been fighting with them since last summer.
appreciate the tip . I got a brand new troy bilt from home Depot and had this problem . you saved me from having to return it . thanks buddy
Immensely helpful...I bought tools for my chain saw last year. This totally fixed my WeedEater in 2mins. Awesome!
This FIXED my ECHO cutter and this taught me everything I needed to make much wow with it as well.
I am very thankful for the knowledge that the author has freely given me.
Got the tool and it worked for both my weedeaters that would shutoff on high gear. Thanks alot for the instructional vid :-)
This video helped me out alot. But I didn't want to spend money on the tool so I used a hack saw to make a cut all the way down to the left screw enough to turn it a half turn. It worked great!
Just got the tool off ebay and tuned mine and it worked :D thanks man
Wow glad I didn't get rid of it before watching this I used a dremel on mine with a flat screwdriver tuned and now works great
Great vid
This helped me fix my Weedeater
That I trash picked from side of the road. After replacing gas lines it was running like this. I adjusted the screws using as electrical connector with needle nose Plyler
It was about 3/4 turn on low and 1/4 on high
Donyboy rules! Another helpful video. I ended up using a blue plastic insulated wire connector thing-a-ma-jig which I turned with a pair of pliers. Worked great. Had my trimmer running nicely in about 10 minutes. 7 years I suffered because I didn't have this knowledge regarding these 2 carb adjusting screws. I used to ALWAYS have to run the trimmer with the choke 1/2 way. If I opened the choke up all the way, it would always die on me once I gave it some throttle. This quick adjustment works great! Thanks Donyboy!
I hope you don't stop making these videos because you are saving me a ton of money! All the best. Dan from Connecticut, USA. Cheers!
I have to agree to disagree with Mr. jim bob's comment. That's like saying people shouldn't learn how to cook to support the restaurant industry. There will always be people out there that are afraid to touch their small engines etc. DonnyBoy73's videos are great and a wonderful service to the youtube community. Thanks DonnyBoy73!!
thanks so much was able to get it done with thin needle nose pliers , now my machine works perfect !! Thanks man !
+Peter Caito you're welcome, make sure you're subscribed
Thanks again.
you're welcome
Great video! Followed the instructions, and BAM started on the first pull and no lost power!
Thank you so much. I was thinking of buying a new carburetor or a new weed eater. Now I know what to do. Thanks again.
There are tutorials for every trade under the sun on YT. However, some people, no matter how much instruction you give them, will never be capable of repairing anything mechanical. You're either mechanically minded or you're not, so your skills will always be required by some. Donys videos are invaluable for those of us shed dwellers who enjoy fiddling with machinery ourselves, and just need a few tips from an expert here and there. Also, many folk may not be able to afford professional repairs.
Worked like a charm! I have a Homelite Bandit and it worked the same way... Can't thank you enough, keep up the good work!
