To make everyone forget it was always them that had enslaved, oppressed and abused. Make false promises and make the opponent the mortal enemy. Sadly it worked. I’m from California, and remember as recently as the early 2000s we had so many majority Black areas you could go from place to place and catch a different vibe. It was fun. Then slowly, those neighborhoods became more and more Latino. Billboards catering to Black people were suddenly advertising in Spanish. Then before long, Black people started disappearing from our historic neighborhoods altogether. At this rate, the Southside Chicago in 20 years will look like South Central LA now: mostly beige colored people with Black people clustered in certain areas, speckled in others, but altogether the minority in a part of the city that just recently used to be ours.
I am an electrician and I offered to teach young family members and there was no response from them. I told them to learn the skill and after that open your own business. Be the boss with your skill!!
