- For Easter this year, my daughter wanted me to make a kite. I decided to make a Guyana Flag kite that is 3 feet tall.

That's mad creative with the golden arrowhead on the kite. It's too pretty to fly. I remember saving all my money to buy all the kite supply. Easter sunday at #6 or #63 beach.

I'm from🇧🇧living in the 🇺🇲 and I still makes kites at 63 years old. Im still a kids at heart every Easter. Living in Florida offers me lots of space in the parks to fly kits year round. Because I'm here I use the local glue available but in Barbados we use clamocherry or flour water. Love you design.

The older kids used to put a razor blade on the tail so when it swings it would cut the strings of the other kites close by. Really good job on this one.

WOW ,your kite came out good, bring back lots young days memory. I used to have a broom kite , box kite and a board kite . The fun was, who's kite is going to sing the loudest and fly the highest. In Berbice area where I am from we used to call gamma cherry pasiee. When you cannot fine pasiee some people use starch to paste the kite. But whatever it takes we sure had fun. I must say that we used to get a piece of white board, ( that is what we call it). We used to put it on the steps while someone stood on the end, and we used to be sawing up the strips and planning the strips. School allowance usually means kite paper. What memories of those days. HAPPY EASTER MONDAY. Brought back great memories of my brothers making kites after church on Good Friday and Saturdays then trying it out making sure it was ready for Easter Monday. And the great picnic on the seawall or the park....Those were the good old days. I sure miss those days. Nothing like the country you were born in and with Guyana don't matter how the country were back in 80's there was still happiness.

Great show Bud. I used to make board kite in my young days back in Guyana and paste the paper with gamma. I am from La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara and i call it gamma cherry too. Actually when the gamma is ripe i used to eat it. It is sweet. You did a great job with your kite design.

I remember taking loose-leaf paper and ponta... cuz I didn't have any kite paper. Sometimes I would make it out of pointa broom. Everybody had their secrets of making their kit sing the loudest. God this bring back so much memories where my dad took me to the grounds... I thought I forgot all of this.

Thanks for the memories. I remember using up all my mother coconut brooms to make kite. I can also recall some of the boys used to put reszor blades at the kite tails so it can cut other people's kit.😂😁

Wow brings back a lot of memories when my dad was in the same position sitting on the floor for hours making kites for me and my brother and lol when I got a little artistic I used to cut out my own designs for my kite and one time I made a skull with flames omg lol good times. Wish I was home right now to enjoy the kite flying with my family. Thanks for this video and the kite was awesome, nothing can’t go wrong with a Guyanese flag design on a kite. Have a happy easter. That kite was well made. Well according to that size kite, we usually use Barbados kite paper which is heavier. We have the mountain or the pulling loop.

Gammacherry is what we called it on West Coast Dem. I always used to make kites at easter time here in Maryland. Kite paper /tissue paper starpoint with tacky glue is what i use here. We do get bamboo for the head.

Rocky those were the days! OMG! That is so cute. I remembered shopping for the bright colours kite papers my goodness and then paste from the three! and when we run out of paste at night and too late to go out we use flour mix with water. I remembered the kite would cut away, us running to find it in the hot sun, oh boy. Thanks for that you are incredible. God bless and Happy Easter to you and the patient camera person

Rocky beta how long you can enjoy your daughter you take advantage of it . When she left for collage that’s it . Because when she finish she is not coming back home . She gone on her own . Is just you and your wife left in the house . I can tell you from experience . Enjoy your kite flying . But that’s wickedness to put that razor blade on the tail . Many kids cry when they loose their kites . Happy that you are keeping up with the traditions . You are a true and simple Guyanese . Don’t be afraid to throw in the broken English when you can .
