Bought a little place last year with a trail down to the lake just up the lake from where the video stopped. Bank fishing was a lot of fun earlier this year for catching some nice bluegill and redear sunfish in pockets in the hydrilla in the shallow areas over rock beds with largemouth bass usually off the rocky steep drop-offs. The rock is mostly limestone and a little chert with lots of gastropod and other marine fossils and some zebra and other freshwater mussels. The lake can be extremely clear with 10-20' visibilities and it's a popular scuba spot at the marina. It's a nice spot for kayak fishing in the upper portion of the lake into the Lampasas River and quite scenic as it gets into more hill country scenery; though, there are a few alligators in the river. 3-4' is probably the average annual fluctuation, but Central Texas is very prone to drought and there aren't any lakes above Stillhouse Hollow, so it's more like 8-12' in drought years.

I just bought house nearby. This will probably become my main lake. Buddy of mine went there a couple months ago and said the bass fishing was hot!

This was an awesome lake breakdown! I fish Stillhouse regularly for my UA-cam channel. I have never fished it from a boat but I do Kayak fish and bank fish alot lol. My focus has been primarily the upper 2/3 of the lake but this year I plan to get down and fish by the rip rap. Thanks for this breakdown 👍

Went back in the river last week. Bottomed out before that first wash out island thing. Not much of a river at the moment

@Simplistic Fishing - I live literally 2.7 miles from Stillhouse. I fish it 3-4 days a week. The hydrilla is out of control right now. Flooded Timber cove is probably 80% choked out and super shallow. DO NOT use outboards as you get closer to the cove. The hydrilla is out 100' + off the bank and actually sits on top of the creek channel swing. The entire southern portion of the lake is pretty much choked out due to low water and the hydrilla issue. Driving over the Stillhouse bridge, you can see its 95% inaccessible and very dangerous. Cedar Gap boat ramp should not be used until we get a good flood. Kayaks can launch there, but anything with outboard should avoid it. Union Grove just east of the bridge is a better and safer option.
The road bed you mentioned is a local honey hole. Fishermen who participate on Tuesday night tourneys will sit on that road bed. It's nothing to see 15-20 boats sitting there for the entire 3-hrs during the tourney. Easiest and safest boat ramp for access to Stillhouse is the marina.
Everything you pointed out for possible fish areas was true until the hydrilla exploded. Anyone who has never fished Stillhouse, be very careful. Adjust you depth to match current water level. Full pool is 622' and Stillhouse is at 615' or lower right now. Utilize your trolling motor often since Stillhouse magically grows several new stumps overnight.

Thanks man! Great update. Hopefully you get some rain soon. Love the hydrilla but hate it at the same time.
