My neighbor had a very large tree removed and I kindly asked the guys if they'd mind leaving the wood chips in my yard and they said that they usually charge but they'd give them to me free since they didn't have to drive them away. It worked out great. I only wish I had more! I'm strategizing about having another tree taken down this fall and getting more chips and firewood out of the deal. Makes me rethink taking out the saplings around my house, There really isn't enough room for them to grow to full maturity, but they may be useful later on.
@@no-diggarden I do use my wood ash in my compost and garden beds. I visited your channel and watched the chestnut vs. horsechestnut video and I'm glad I did. There's a tree I've been wondering about.
Kristopher, I've used wood chips as a mulch to suppress the weeds and keep the soil around my plants from drying out ...works like a charm! The only problem for me is that unfortunately I've had to purchase mine in 1.5 cu ft bags from a big box store and It gets sort of expensive that way. Luckily, any weed seeds that germinate (when they find their way into my mulch) are so easily hand pulled. I had a good layer of cardboard under mine also....which is the key to success. I toyed with the idea of using micro-clover as a ground cover about 2-3 years ago, but couldn't find a variety that was hardy in my zone 5 climate from what I read. Maybe by now they have a cultivar that will survive our cold winters. What zone are you in? Please keep us posted if you try this! That creeping Charlie looks a lot like something we call Henbit, are they the same thing? I just found the answer to my question ...check this out! ua-cam.com/video/-uM-vZPgUDM/v-deo.html
Wood chips from Chip Drop have transformed our clay soil already, and it's exciting to watch! Will you be filling in the area around your fruit tree as a food forest? The trees might benefit from being a part of a fruit tree guild
In the garden, no. I was putting them down so thick that it just didn't pay. Throughout my yard though, yes. In years past I would save up my Amazon shipment boxes over winter, break them down in spring, and then spread them out and lay chips on top. Thick cardboard works like a charm.
Using wood chips to suppress weeds is like taking drugs to suppress your pain. It is addictive and once your wood chips completely decompose, you will end up with tons of weeds cause you don't have any grass to suppress your weeds. LOL
@@bryans6539 Wood chips are now selling at 25 bucks for 2.5 yards on cragslist. Since wood chips are better than bark, I expect it will be selling at 15 bucks a yard very soon. LOL
@@bryans6539 Nothing that has a demand for it is cheap. It is now selling at 25 bucks for 2.5 yards on cragslist. Everyone with a little bit of knowledge in biology knows wood chips are better than bark. So, very soon wood chips will be more expensive than bark. LOL I have 2 acres. How much is the wood chips for covering 2 acres of land? I plant trees and allow my grass to grow tall to grow my own organic matter. Covering your land with unproductive wood chips imported from outside is both a waste of money and solar energy.
@@trumplostlol3007 you speak like an imbecile. I live on five acres myself, but I don’t need 5 acres of wood chips. I only use them around my raised beds area. Also 25 bucks is dirt cheap for even 1 yard of chips. Do you know how much a yard is?
Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know wood chips is the way to go.
Another quality video! I, too, have Canadian thistle. It's tough but it can be managed. Thanks for sharing.
I tried it too and it works better than chemicals.

Thank you for this video!
I'm in the UK and signed up to chip drop but haven't had anything 🙁
The wood chips this year saved me from walking in the muck from all this rain.
Wouldn't rain create a compost out of it?
Do you get your own or did you buy them in bulk?
I love your voice :)
Well thank you!
Oh man😂😂 I thought after the first couple seconds the answer would be a big No!!!
Isn't that Ajuga Reptans? - Not creeping charlie?
thistles are the bane of my existence....my pasture is loaded, and they get about 7 ft. tall.....ahhhhggg
Those weeds look like they are germinating from seeds falling between the top cracks of your mulch. Can't stop that.
Did you lay cardboard or newspaper everywhere under the woodchips?

Slow down with your camera movement please, I'm going dizzy here !!
you can watch it at .25 or quarter the speed if you want.
From those first few seconds, it doesn't seem so...
oooooooh
No

So then i don’t know, keep adding wood chips?
