Some big things in this article that are not true. We do not have taxes on families that do not have children, abortion is not prohibited and neither is divorce. Yes, we have corruption, just like other European countries, maybe a higher percentage, but it is not out of control. The increase in the population is due to the return of Romanians to the country and the labor force coming from Asia to cover the needs in Romania

About abortion, yes it’s legal but in 1/3 of counties no doctor will perform this because of their religious beliefs

In communism time in Romania there was no starvation of food of course was not much meat in the supermarkets but there were plenty of vegetables and drinks more than 60%of population lived on farms and people fed themself organic food like chicken, duck, goose, pork, rabbits and pork this is a big lie that was not food in Romania many people are nostalgic of communism because everyone have the security of work and were to live in a place given by the government and were no drugs and Romania economy were producing more goods than today.

i know a lot of Romanians in Belgium for decades. They come here as skilled or as unskilled labour. There are very few young people with a degree amongst them. Until 10 years ago most of them planned to go back to Romania. Today the plan is to integrate fully in Belgian society, if possible buy a house. and tp reunite with their parents according to Belgian law (family reunion). They won't go back.

Well done video. Was impressed when you correctly stated that Ceausescu prioritized paying all debts. I hear some Romanians use that as a fact to say it was better before, but the majority of people believe that the revolution was good. I was born in the communist era in Romania and was part of the 1st waves of migrants via my parents. I was a teenager when we left.

It was the same in Italy with Mussolini.
Yes he did something actually good for the country... But on the other hand we had ww2 that almost destroyed the country, so...
Even me that I was born in the middle of Cold War I can say that dictators are bad for countries.

Literally NO ONE says paying the debts was good. It was the most stupid thing Ceausescu ever did because that policy led to many shortages and that basically made people overthrow him.
No, what people say is that during those times the country still had some industry, which today is all gone and the little that remains is not ours anymore. Housing was super cheap, after the Revolution Iliescu basically gave houses away for free, Romania is the country with the most property owners in Europe. People could easily raise a family, it's not the case these days. Today as a teenager, unless your parents are employed by the state or you're super rich you have to sell a kidney (it's a metaphor but I'm not far from it) to make sure you can afford A LOAN for a house which you'll pay for 20 years or so. Also, healthcare was a lot more affordable, today even if you pay for it the services are shitty and even if it's "free" (you still pay taxes so it's not free at all), lately they've started charging taxes even for those "free" services. Another saying people who long after communism have is "on those days we had money but couldn't buy anything with them since there were shortages, today there are many products but we don't have money". While I think that wasn't true a few years ago, ever since inflation exploded it does feel that way. And the wages are the smallest in the EU because every time there is talk about raising the wages employers screech they'll have to close their businesses down even if they never will since they're making huge profits.
I would really love it if people would start giving more balanced accounts of what "the other side" has to say. Just making a parody out of them or straight up lying doesn't help anyone.

We don't have laws that unreasonably limit abortion. Abortion is free for the first 14 weeks. Childless couples are not penalized. If you are a family with children, you get tax deductions, which is quite different from penalizing childless families. Yes, freedom of conscience is guaranteed and there is a growing movement among gynecologists to not perform abortions. However, the majority of them will perform abortions so this is not a big issue.

In '78 my father bought a brand new Dacia 1300 with 2200$. Today i think the equivalent is 14000$ and you buy the same. So the growth is somehow on paper. The opportunities are the change. The medium wage was 3000 lei in '89, now it's 4500. But now there's a lot of distractions, consumerism.

The growth is real. How many years did you wait for a car? Years! Could you buy better cars? No. Could you afford a foreign car? Still no. The economy was a mess before 1989.

Many lies in this video, because of the interpretation in favor of capitalism! First of all, it was not Ceausescu who starved us, but the glorified Americans, they sent the IMF to pressure Ceausescu, either he pays the debt, or he gives up the resources. The lie with the electricity that we only had a few hours, again you can't see the reality, there were interruptions because we lacked about 500 MWh during peak hours and we didn't always have anywhere to import, and the industry had priority. I had heat when I moved to the block, because I slept with the windows open in the winter. It is true that in the last years of communism we had less, but not less than 18-19 gr C as the capitalists recommended their people to sleep, because that is healthy. But all the people had the same conditions, now there are people who have no income and sleep in the cold outside, but no one cares and no one sees them!! That they didn't invest in education is again a big lie, that all children went to real school, free of charge, not for money like now, and they chose at least a job, if they didn't go to college. I think we had the most qualified workforce, because of those who went abroad, they were successful. The Romanian economy was very successful, but it had to be destroyed, to become a market for the West! Industrially, it was much more developed in many areas, better than some western countries, and many high-performance machines were brought from economically very advanced countries that, after the revolution, took the path of the west. Of course, now there are many more, but for two reasons: 1, that 35 years of progress have passed, which would have happened even if there was communism, and 2nd, that not many people buy, because they don't have money. But we must not forget that what we allowed ourselves in communism as free time, vacations, visits to friends, now we can no longer afford them. Safety on the street was again at the highest level. there is a fear that the militia beats them, but they beat those who were vagabonds, not that no one beats them now, but the innocent die, what is the use of encouraging theft and crimes?? Now we have to help our children until old age to have a house, while in the past, they got it immediately after they got hired, if they got married they got a bigger apartment, when they had children they got one or two more rooms in the next apartment. You used to go to the doctor, everything was free, now it's not even for children. You don't have money, you can die peacefully.

Romania is a great country, not because of capitalism. Capitalism has its shadows, everything for sale, sex trafficking, devastation to ecosystems due to mining. Exploitation of workers locally and abroad. Just like communism (stalins version of it) much suffering came with it. Its the people that are amazing. Traveling through this great country i discovered again the will to live. I escaped my country because of alienation. But found connection amongst the groundedness of these warmhearted people. Perhaps one thing which communism did not mess up. The amazing wild forests. Where the rest of europe destroyed its old forests, for industry purposes, the great western forest of romania was kept protected for its strategic military value. Yes even shitty dictators can do good things inadvertedly once 😅n a while. I like marx, i like lenin, like brothers, though i disagree about many things, but stalin i hate, perhaps as much as ronald reagan or henry kissinger.
