Building an easy common mode choke for antennas.

  • A common mode current choke (sometimes called a 1:1 balun) at the feed point of antennas is a must for good performance. This is the version I like to run as waterproofing is not necessary with this design.

    Note: Stranded RG58 is what is typically used but stranded RG8x will work.

    In the future use painters tape and make a square on the table or floor marking the border of your video shot area. This way it will help you not to do things outside the border where most of your work is not seen by the viewer.

    Id be VERY concerned using non teflon dielectric coax when winding such sharp turns.

      Good point. Attention should be put into the coax choice based on minimum turning radius.

      So current CMC doesn't go back down the coax into the shack , also to stop feed line from being a radial !
