  • The Netkit device was released in the Linux community recently. It has achieved a significant 10% improvement in throughput for eBPF networking compared to the widely used veth pair and attracts attention from communities.
    However, implementing Netkit poses challenges for many users who manage their own clusters, due to some practical concerns:
    1. The Netkit feature was introduced in kernel version 6.8, creating a significant disparity between this version and the versions currently used by most users and introduces potential risks when upgrading the kernel;
    2. Users are often reluctant to reboot their applications or services solely to incorporate unfamiliar features;
    3. The migration across a data center presents a considerable stability challenge.
    In this talk, we will share our experience of utilizing Netkit in data centers comprising over a million servers, how we overcame these problems, and the unexpected benefits resulting from the adoption of Netkit.
