      It may have been vitreous humor in the eye vaporizing, but I like the snot theory. Happened to me when I hit a rat in the eye, at 46 feet with a MK II from an MRod.

      cerebro- deals with the brain
      spinal- deals with the spine.
      absolutely nothing to do with the eye.
      your eyes arent just masses of "flesh" or whatever you want to call it. the the stuff that makes your eyes round is much like water. if you puncture your eye it deflates. much like a hole in a water balloon. although I cannot remember the name of the fluid (starts with aqueous) I can assure you it is not cerebrospinal fluid.

Many things my some of my friends growing up found to be "gross" I simply found interesting. The first time you pick up a severed head it has a strange effect, but it's unique, nonetheless.

    As you said, pellet impacted on the squirrels face just below his right eye. The whitish spray (not really any pinkish/bloody tinge to it) might not have anything to do with his eye; but the part of the face that was hit would be where his salivary glands would first be impacted; this would be before the pellet continued further threw and into his skull.
    I would put saliva and saliva gland tissue on the top of my list...as to the content of the visible spray in the video.

  • @sssfsfdfsdsdffsfsdf4
    @sssfsfdfsdsdffsfsdf4 8 років тому +18

    too me it looks like the liquid inside the eye. the pellet probably skimmed the eye and the white liquid squirted out of the socket and so looks like smoke.

    • @GetTheZedl
      @GetTheZedl 8 років тому +2

      +harry loud But eye liquid is absolutely translucent (light has to get to the retina). Also, the hit is more on the cheek than the eye itself. Heat and pressure shouldn't be enough on an airgun to vaporize anything.
      I think it's either the sclera (if the eye exploded because of the impact) or parts of whatever the squirrel has eaten at the moment plus parts of it's bone and teeth.

    • @sssfsfdfsdsdffsfsdf4
      @sssfsfdfsdsdffsfsdf4 8 років тому

      ***** it could be the light catching it and also a pellet with that energy could definitely force liquid out like that with surprising energy

    • @GetTheZedl
      @GetTheZedl 8 років тому

      +harry loud light catching it is a nice idea, but then this effect would have to change fast, because the angle of incidence changes as the liquid moves.
      50 J is a lot of energy, but like i said, not enough to have thermal effects on the eye fluid to make it opaque. Watched it ten times, still damn sure It's liquid or liquid-like and not smoke as Ted seems to think, which again points toward my nut crumbs and spit or exploding eyeball theory

    • @WeerdBeard
      @WeerdBeard 8 років тому

      +harry loud I think you're right, I suspect it's vitreous humour, which is a thick gel under pressure in the orb of the eye. It can get ruptured by shock (9/10 mice killed by me in a kill-bar trap have at least one eye ruptured) and because it's thick it will likely not spray as much as thinner liquids.

    I know its an old video with many comments, and somebody down the line may have already said this, but 8 think the squirrel smoke is the "water" around the eye, vaporizing from the rapid pressure change. It would be similar to opening a 2-liter bottle of soda too quickly and there's a cloud in the bottle.
    Except, you know, it's a cloud of eye juice.
    Love your vids, stay awesome.

    The ""smoke" that you see is the Vitreous Humor atomizing. The Vitreous is a clear gelatinous tissue the resides within the center of the eye makes up the majority of the eye's mass. It's consistency is similar to that of clear Jello. It provides the internal foundation and is an optical medium that allows light to travel to the retina on the back inner surface of the eye. The retina is like the film of a camera and contains nerves which identify light and send this information to the brain.
    When hitting the Vitreous of a small animal with so much energy, the Vitreous essentially atomizes or vaporizes into the the smoke that you see.

    Great shooting on them squirrels. I hate em. They ate all the fruit from my tree and started to nibble on the wires around my house. I wish I could cap them with my bb/pellet gun, but alas I live in city that doesn't allow discharge of bb/pellet guns...so I have to try other means.

      You're right. It has to do with the Franco-Prussian War and World War 1. After the war, the Treaty of Frankfurt in 1871 gave Alsace and part of Lorraine to Germany, and it was renamed Reichsland Elsaß-Lothringen. They lost the region to France after World War 1 in 1919. I have family on the German side in that area, near Saarbrücken. Been to Strasbourg (Straßburg) many times. Wonderful region.

      He is paid to perform pest control. The animals he hunts can cause thousands of dollars in damage to property, and in some cases are non-native, invasive, species that kill the local native animals. What would be your alternative to the situation? Poison? Maybe you would just let the animals be to cause damage, which would be a bit hypocritical, because I bet if it was thousands of dollars of damage being done to your property you would get them sorted right quick.

    • @wepntech
      @wepntech 7 років тому +5

    figured id put this here for you sjw's to browse,this is uk law so not sure what if any different they would be in the states
    Squirrels and the Law
    The red squirrel is a protected species in the UK and is included in Schedules 5 and 6 of the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (WCA) (amended by the Countryside & Rights of Way Act 2000). It is an offence to intentionally kill or injure a red squirrel or intentionally or recklessly damage or destroy any structure or place a red squirrel uses for shelter or protection, or disturb a red squirrel while it occupies such a place.
    Therefore you must be very careful about when and where you fell any trees. See the section on felling advice for more detail.
    The grey squirrel is regarded as an invasive non-native species following its inclusion under Schedule 9 of the WCA. Grey squirrels are also listed in the IUCN international list of 100 worst invasive non-native species. This highlights the damage that grey squirrels cause to our native flora and fauna; a problem severe enough to be recognised at a level of global significance. As such, the grey squirrel is regarded as a pest species and is afforded no protection under the WCA. Under Schedule 9 of the WCA, it is illegal to release a grey squirrel into the wild, or allow one to escape.
    This means if you trap one, you are obliged to humanely dispatch it. You must not let it go as this act would be illegal.

    • @TemenosL
      @TemenosL 7 років тому +3

      Uh, no, that's not the take-away. Killing might be 'scary', guns are important tools that, like any form of armament, carry lofty and important sociological concepts and values they impart upon the user like the individual's right to self-determine and defend their lives as well as live off the land, etc. However, their usage, always, should be as responsible as humanly possible. That, and notice that Ted prefers as much as he can to kill 'cleanly' and quickly. This should be telling to you and others, a humanitarian usage of deadly force. If you must/will kill, it is more humane to do so as quickly and painlessly as able.
