- Wild Sonoran Desert tortoise (Gopherus morafkai) 30 miles east of Phoenix. Never handle a wild tortoise unless helping it across a dangerous road. Don't release captive tortoises in the wild. They could endanger wild population by spreading URTD. It is illegal to capture or harass wild tortoises or to buy or sell a desert tortoise.

Wow, intense eyes. And what a beak, jagged as if it were teeth.
Great recording!
nice camerawork. love for nature comes through. smart to do it without music and letting the sound of ambient air and treading tortoise through. a treat of a video.
Cool Video - - such detail!
Finally a video without music!!
You may have the wrong scientific name here is this is actually a Sonoran. In 2010, the Sonoran was first recognized as a distinct population segment. A new scientific name was given: Gopherus morafkai
You are correct. I uploaded this before the split. I corrected it. Thanks for the notice!
Laurie Nessel good video though. Thanks for posting!
Anytime.... ;)
