  • Training your dog inside when the weather sucks doesn't have to be boring! Matt Covey shows a raw/uncut training session inside on a cold day.
The goal of the session is not to teach something new or to clean up obedience commands. The goal is to work the dogs brain and body by keeping him guessing the whole time. This means that there will be mistakes throughout the whole session. This is fine! You can even experiment with using confusing/surprising body language in order to really keep your dog guessing.
During the training session a lot of emphasis is placed on the idea of an "off switch". When you have a high drive or excitable dog it is crucial that they can go from on to off in an instant. This video shows you some fun ways you can work on that!

Absolutely love an indoor session like this when it's under 0° in Chicago 😂

Don’t worry Holly! The big thaw is coming and then instead of ice you can wipe mud off your dog’s paws!

I like that you said "get it" and pointed, but he didn't move until you said "free". My dogs need to work on that. To me, this shows that you have fully ingrained that into his head - do not move until you are freed. This is a good lesson for me! I will be utilizing this idea today. Thanks for the play-training suggestion!

Absolutely! Hopefully it warms up sometime soon and everyone can start doing more training/play outside again! Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment!

This is a great video. Thank you for teaching us how to play and train the dog at the same time. I think this will help train the dog quicker and without having to give food as reward's all the time.

Hi Tracy! Do you mean how do we stop them from regripping the rope during tug? We fix that issue by correcting each time they regrip. It can be a verbal no or a tug on the collar. The goal is they learn it isn't fun to regrip and it involves a correction and a quick pause in the game. If I misunderstood your question please let me know!
