  • Jimmy Carr is an world-touring comedian, writer, author, TV host for shows including, ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats’, ‘Roast Battle’, and ‘Big Fat Quiz Of The Year’. He is a hero of mine.
    For this episode, headed from Glasgow to London to have a conversation with the deepest thinker, hardest worker, and kindest soul in comedy.
    Beyond the dark mask you've seen on stage and on TV, Jimmy's origin story is complex, and his thinking is philosophical. I was blown away by how he has turned his remarkable life story into a set of lessons for us all to take onward.
    Despite how he presents himself, Jimmy’s story is one that begins as a working-class Irish immigrant in Slough and will inevitably end with him being cemented as a legend when his physical being is no longer around.
    But, the path there has not always been as straightforward as it seems.
    Jimmy shares with me the intimate details of grieving his mother, facing the wrath of public cancellation, and wrestling with dyslexia.
    He also astounded me with novel ideas around comedy’s role in society, how to serve your future self, and the importance of experiential learning.
    Filmed in the very basement where I first fell in love with stand-up, this episode is a full-circle moment. And with stunning cinematography by the talented Andres, it's a visual feast.
    My sister and I used to watch Jimmy in our miserable tiny house in a council estate in Ayrshire, and now I had the opportunity to bring her to meet her hero too.
    Jimmy was my gateway drug to comedy. And, as Jimmy professes, comedians are drug dealers.
    But, the drug prescribed by Jimmy in this episode isn’t one of laughter (despite there being plenty) but a drug that allows you to become the future you, today.

    Was listening to this whilst working out, turned it off once you started talking about your mom's passing. That needed my full attention, so glad I did. That's the real shit right there. What a human moment between you both

    Great interview. Jimmy Carr really opened up here. I think because the interviewer didn't let their ego take center stage and let Jimmy to speak.

    I couldn't believe it when I saw Jimmy was going to come to Istanbul. Shows are rarely sold out in Turkey, but then the first show was sold out, so a 2nd show was announced, we bought tickets right away. Wow ... was so excited .... looking forward it and I rarely go out due to my less-abilities, the day comes ... I am hit with 38.5 fever, body aches, chills, cough ... I can barely walk inside the house, let alone take the metro for 70 minutes to see Jimmy. So I missed your show Jimmy! Kismet they say ... but then kismet should mean I'm going to see you live sometime somewhere. Insallah then hey! ❤

    54:15 - I don't know what I was expecting when I clicked on this first video of your podcast, but it certainly wasn't a full hour of life lessons and quotes from books I need to read and the encouragement to take what I know I do better than anything else I do and push it forward. Thank you for creating such an honest space for your guest to show not only his humor but kindness and brilliance.

    Cancel culture is a mindset. Its the belief that if a piece of content offends you then you should get to restrict access to it from everyone else. Turning that into an action results in all the people who got offended trying to pressure whatever platform is hosted the content into removing it. It doesn't often work, especially to people who have already built huge fanbases, but that doesn't stop the people who have that mindset from trying. Even if its successful, in the case of getting Shane Gillis fired from SNL for example, there are still countless other platforms that person can go to. He got cancelled from SNL but went on to get a huge Netflix deal showing that a cancellation doesn't even have to be permanent. Trying to 'cancel' people is pointless and doesn't even really work but despite that the censorious puritans who want to personally decide whether you and everyone else should be allowed to watch the latest Ricky Gervais special will keep trying because that authoritarian itch never goes away.

      Why should he do that? It's his podcast, he can do what he likes. It's better for him, in terms of building an audience, if people watch the whole video.
      If you just skip to the bit you care about, that impacts how YT treats his video, how often they recommend it. There's a lot of great stuff in this video, getting it in front of more people is good. It would be a shame to reduce the visibility of this just to satisfy your craving for instant gratification.

      @@TheDreamer1980 I don't KNOW much about Mr Carr and his personal life to be able to make judgement.
      YES they do laugh but as you say it's an act as their act knows it's time to display a 'laugh' and it's the same with love and empathy, they do not have it BUT they KNOW in certain situations they 'should' display empathy so they pretend

    • @TheDreamer1980
      @TheDreamer1980 2 місяці тому

      @@stevenhowe6677 they do genuinely laugh but often it's laughing at others expense or laughing at their own jokes or stories, that's actually a good sign someone is a narcissist when they do that real deep belly laugh after something they say that they think is hilarious or interesting but its often baffling why they are laughing, personality disorders obviously have general traits but they are not set In stone, also in reality a lot of people fake laugh to humor their friends or work colleagues, Ive got friends who I see turning it on and off like a tap its so natural to them

      @@TheDreamer1980The UA-cam clip 'Fuel' by HG TUDOR gives a GREAT insight into what's going on when they come across as 'charismatic' possibly 'entertaining' and often 'likeable' and also what happens as their 'supply' dips. I have a Narcissist Father [celebral] whos 'supply' has now reduced to a trickle, on the verge of collapse but not quite there yet, his behaviour becomes more erratic all the time, I am on 'next to no contact'
      You can WATCH certain 'celebrities' in their younger years as they find it quite EASY to suck up supply and as they age the more extreme methods they will go to, I've been studying boxer 'Chris Eubank' haha and his more bizarre 'false self' also the ex comedian 'Eddie Izzard' who masquerades as a woman haha, the false self can display in all sorts of ways.
      Some develop their own 'cult' for example Russell Brand has now 'rebranded' to an 'internet influencer' and has a large following, same with that Andrew Tate fella, all those impressionable youngsters tuning in to an 'act'
      James Cordon [spelling?] is another suspected NPD who seems to have gotton hmsels into trouble, MUCH depends on the type of NPD you are looking at, the overts are easy to spot but the coverts, especially the celebrals can be tricky.

      @stevenhowe6677 2 місяці тому

      @@TheDreamer1980 When you look at 'traits' and the subject of Narcissism, these traits ARE set in stone.
      We all have a bit, 1 or 2 traits and you would be mildly Narcissistic, 2 or 3 and moderately Narcissistic, 3 or 4 and highly Narcissistic -- you need to be displaying FIVE OR SIX traits on a REGULAR basis to be classed as a Narcissist, there are NINE traits in all, I think it is uncommon for a Narcissist to have all 9, prof Sam Vaknin [spelling] claims he has all 9.
      Intelligence is also another BIG factor when looking at Narcissists, some of the intelligent ones can go vary far indeed such as people like Mr Trump.
      Elon Musk is of interest to me too, some say he's 'autistic' but there again I've heard it said he puts these things out there as there's less stigma than being known as NPD, not sure on that one but he's does come across as odd to say the least I've got my eye on him.
      As for the 'royals' they have been subject matter, over the years, for many psychology students :)

  • @theshagnetwork

    I have seen him laugh numerous times... he is just not silly, is awkward in social situations and usually the one making others laugh. Comedians should stick to being comedians, not acting like psychologists and yes there is a psychology to comedy but there is a psychology to everything. We aren't experts but I have seen Trump laugh and people who can't laugh rarely have the kind of sense of humour to make others laugh but Trump does. He knows what's funny. It's the Left today who struggle with laughter. They take everything seriously and can't even make a meme.

      Yeah pretty rich a guy with lots of narcissistic traits accusing someone else of being one, narcissistic people are more than capable of laughter, they often have a particular sort of laugh ( like Carr) but they use it as part of their cover, same for sociopaths they blend in and fake all emotions including happiness and joy
