- Classic Game Room reviews YARS REVENGE (remake) for PC from Killspace and Atari. This game has more in common with Space Harrier than Yars' Revenge but remains a cool game if you play the proper version.... try the Xbox 360 version instead of PC. Odd controls, awkward screen adjustment features and "forgettable" mouse support make this a sloppy PC game even if the game seems cool, the 360 version is supposed to be far more solid. Control Yar (now a chick with armor) with the left analog stick and aim her firing with the right, Yars Revenge has players doing two things at once. Stay alive, destroy enemies and rack up big points with a multiplier.
I accidentally purchased this game on XBLA. It is not that bad. Actually due to its difficulty it is pretty decent. By the way, the plot of the game changes 2nd or 3rd level in. First you are a chick in a robo-insect suit killing insects, afterward you find out that people in robes who send you to kill insects are bad and you have to fight them instead
they even screwd up the name: in the original it was titled YARS' revenge as in the yars which is a mutant insect race and there group's revenge ( plural possessive)
The use in this game is referring to one "yar" and that it would be her revenge... therefor the title would be YAR'S revenge (singular possessive)
BUT ITS NOT
Yar's Revenge is a pretty fun game, but hardcore gamers will beat it their first time through and probably only die once while getting used to moving Yar and the reticule at the same time.
Also, the only change you would have to make to Yars' Revenge(note the apostrophe) to make Yar's Revenge a sequel is change how the Yars were depicted from humanoid flies to hot anime chicks with fours arms in power armor.

Usually for games like this have an .ini for .cfg file which you can edit, with options for custom resolutions and fullscreen. Always good to make a backup of those files too, since it is a little more advanced in terms of configurations.
i love that comment he made about ham sandwiches and live squirrels. cgr, the only show that i can watch that includes game reviews and comedy in one neat package. :D

So mark said the 360 version was better, but other than the somewhat poor mouse controls he mentioned, isnt it basically the same? And he said in the review that he did play on a dual analog pad for this game also.
Good remake, but I hate how they made the insectoid aliens more human-like, as it kind of kills the pont of them being, you know, insectoid.
maybe they are parasites who feasted on humanoids to liek adapt to their surroundings? I could see this being a lore thing, evolution and survival stuff xD
Loved the original! I like this one too - it reminds me a lot of Panzer Dragoon on Saturn and original XBox...
First, I was thinking that too! Apostrophe after the S = "Yars' Revenge" = We have an entire race or culture of these Yars, the Qotile wrecked them something fierce and now the Yars are all out for revenge, so they've sent this one champion out to kill the Qotile while the rest of them hang back and man the Vorlon Cannon or whatnot, probably because their race is dangerously close to extinction (because of the Qotile's aggression) and losing one champion is better than losing all of their kind in one fell swoop.
Apostrophe before the S = Yar's Revenge = Okay, she's just acting alone. Who is she, what is her species, where does she come from, why is she fighting the Qotile and why does she want revenge?
Sometimes, one punctuation mark can make all the difference. I want an entire race of these sapient space insects, damn it....
And we have too many human-like extraterrestrials in the many worlds of Science Fiction. That's what makes a Yar fun and interesting to play: She's completely alien, she's nothing like a human and now we're compelled to play her role, think like a Yar and act like a Yar. The mental and emotional enigmas which come with taking on such a role are what make non-humanoid protagonists fascinating. So can we have our sentient space bugs back now? 🤔
0:18 And sure, Humanoid Yar is pretty, but one of the Yar's classic abilities is that they can devour practically any substance. How is she going to fit _those_ jaws around one of the "space bricks" between the Qotile and the Vorlon Cannon? How is she going to _eat_ a space brick? Do we even have Vorlon Cannons in this game?
for the fullscreen try alt+enter. It works most of the time for most apps.
@EphraimRodrigez You've got a point about the money thing and to each therirown I guess. I will admit that I wasn't too thrilled about Tales of Vesperia not getting a ps3 us release I just can't afford a 360. And darn it why did youtube have to do away with having your comment highlighted to make it easier to find? I hate it when they do these things.
The beauty of the old Atari games is that they left a *lot* of room for your imagination. Enough room that it was possible for to someone to envision a game like this as a continuation of Yar's Revenge... and I don't think it's that much of a stretch, honestly.
OK, it's just as likely the team simply wanted to make something like Panzer Dragoon; but hot, under-dressed women and laser-shooting cybernetic space insects fit perfectly into any arcade-style shooter regardless.
@riachupwns don't think so.just buy a pc controler.there are many converters to play ps2 constrollers on your pc as well.

The fact that you said you said the analog sticks are better is pure opinion, I personally prefer Keyboard and Mouse
I have got a unopened yars' revenge in original packaging, does any one know how much that would be worth ?
So this video basically explains who that squirrel is at the beginning, it's the squirrel that was covered in cheese and lettuce and got away. That it self explains the red eyes, I would be mad too if I was put in a sandwich.
Why do they have to make it a download only game. I can't even get this online because I can't connect my XBox360 to the internet.

This is the closest you'll get to Panzer Dragoon on x.b.l.a,& yes that's a great thing.GR8 game!
Poor Mark not being able to play games very well on a computer, I loved how the reticle is moving all over the play inaccurately, it amused me. :D
You know, I don't really think you can make a sequel to Yars' Revenge and have it resemble the original, but thanks to some epic pack-in comic action, there IS a mythology to base the game around.

yars has been seeking revenge now for like 30 years, you'd think she'd learn by now a life of vengeance is an empty hollow existence.
Maybe doesn't look nothing at all like Yars Revenge, but It looks like a nice Rail Shooter! I'll give it a try c:
Wow!Finally a REAL PC review.
I tried this on xbox, hated it. WAY too many things on screen all at once to pay attention to and I had a problem locking on to things with the multi-missile.
Use proper video recording software next time please. Seeing the window frame screams amateur of which classicgameroom is not. May I recommend fraps?
@riachupwns Yeah but you need special software. Just search it on youtube.
@InjectedWithAPoison, dyabolyk13, & panntasatan. He states in the description and the video that he is using a mouse, but mouse support in the PC version is flaky.
OH CGR, You have sony vegas and yet dunno how to crop out the obvious windows headerbar (ps, it's the pan/crop option)
In the demo at least you could avoid damage by simply moving in circles continuously. Sin and Punishment 2 is similar but much better.
there was/is a demo for this game? Is it XBLA only?
You can use a 360 or PS3 controller on pc and you can also hit alt+enter to go fullscreen! -_-

Actually, it's been on xbox live. They just price dropped it. Games go to the front of"new releases" when they have a price drop. So for only 400 points, you really can't beat that deal now!

Good game, but not what Yars Revenge should be.
Good thing I never played the original. I think I'm gonna enjoy this a lot anyways.
This is waaaay better than Sin and Punishment. My favorite Box game of the year, too. The original sucks though...

@ochick1 i dont watch them all i watch every once in a while to see if shes got better. thing is its not cus shes not looking at the camera but if she learnt her lines she would talk alot more natural with less strange pauses and breaths.

@spicyechidna94 Dont listen to that class of people... I have the pc, the ps3 and xbox, and each one is better in some aspects (pc for fps, ps3 for arcade/racing, xbox for 3ps and rpg) and im happy with the three. The only console for kids is the wii, but thats whats intended for !! And its a cool console too.
MARK u have to use a track ball mouse and a N-52 d-pad with number pad thats the only way to pc game. and its way better than using a x box controler or a ps3 one.
Looks like Atari port "quality" didn't change much since Pacman 2600...

Never cared for this remake since it, like you said, has nothing to do with the original. Fortunately, a new remake recently came out that DOES play like the original. It's called Yars: Recharged, and it retains the core gameplay (shooting/eating shields, the Zorlon Cannon, the Qotile swirl attack), but it throws in bullets, lasers (in lieu of the Destroyer Missile), and there are smaller cores that give powerups and some levels have multiple Qotiles.

qishmish Index on F for forward, drop down to c for back... s is left/strafe left, d is right/strafe right... it's pretty easy actually, and more comfortable than WASD.
