- High ferritin is associated with iron overload, but it is not the most common cause. High ferritin is commonly caused by metabolic syndrome, infection, inflammation, and chronic disease. Dr Tom Rofrano of the Natural Medicine Clinic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, discusses how to determine this and how to fix it.

This was incredibly helpful information as I'm dealing with high(ish) ferritin but low saturation and a doctor that doesn't seem to care.
That is unfortunate. You may benefit from this video ua-cam.com/video/HnrF9kOvV-g/v-deo.html
Nice video thank you. I've been working on lowering my ferritin for a couple months now and have gone from high 200s to low 200s. Glad to hear it can take 6 months to get into the 100s range. I was getting a little discouraged it wasn't moving faster.
Glad it helped! Take a look at my other ferritin videos for more tips.
This condition is so frustrating. My ferritin has been high at least since 2011, between 409 and 480. 409 in December 2023. Saw a functional medicine doctor, eliminated sugar and kept sugar intake below 24 grams. I took 42 supplements a day including medical grade fish oil, curcumin, probiotics. Etc. followed their strict dietary suggestions and lost 28 pounds in 90 days. They also said some light therapy would help. I did it all, including cleansing. My ferritin went from 409 to 439. My blood sugar went from 100 only to 95. Seems impossible but a fact. My A1C dropped a few points to normal range. Initially quitting sugar, I felt like a new person the first weeks, then my chronic pain returned, fatigue, arthritis symptoms, etc. I’ve had these Fibromyalgia symptoms chronically for at least 13 years or more. Nothing seems to help, very discouraging
Here is my most recent video which may help, where I list 7 causes of high ferritin ua-cam.com/video/0G6rf6BLUOU/v-deo.html

Blood donation
Very informative video. What about low platelet count, high ferritin, and low hemoglobin?
Looking at other lab values besides those can help determine what is going on. Here is another video on the subject.
Thanks Dr Rofrano, what are your thoughts on hyperparathyroidism?
I think getting to the root causes of any chronic condition can give you the best chance for finding solutions. There are usually many underlying causes that come up, between deficiencies, toxins, infections, food reactions, and hormonal imbalance.
Can you please explain why eggs are not included in your diet?
Good question! Even though they can be a healthy option, eggs are avoided only in phase 1 of the FreeDiet due to their high incidence of food reactions- egg yolk and egg white. They are reintroduced in phase 2.
Is there anything to do when you have Hemochromatosis ferritin 1400 level. Iron is above max as well.
Yes, take a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/0AtGmIYMGzk/v-deo.html
and follow up with your doctor.
Must learn about copper if having iron issues. Morley Robbins.
Absolutely! Understanding the role of copper in iron regulation is important for overall health. It's fascinating how these minerals work together.
Acupuncture is very help also for high ferritin+ omega 3 and foods anti inflammatory
Yes, omega 3's and an anti inflammatory diet can be so helpful.

My ferritin was 900 i got it down to 600 by losing 50 pounds, but im at ideal weight now, ive donated blood and it went down fast but eventually rebounds slowly, im at 301 now, but i dont think its the root cause, i also have high uric acid it sitting at 325 im taking allpunerol 300mg a day. Should i increase allpunurol which will loewr uric acid more and then hopefully the ferritin will go down, i eat healthy, low carb exercise every day, sugars are good, but would love to get an insulin test which doctors wont give here, because diabetes runs in half my family even though all my family members are healthy weight, i allready take curcumin and the rest of your vitamins you have listed, my free test is low while my total is normal, but my shbg is quite high, going to be tested by functional doctor for food allergies, heavy metals and sibo, microbiome. Anything elese you can recommend? Thanks
That's great you are getting labs to determine the root causes. If you need help in that area, feel free to contact my clinic. nmcwellness.com/
Hy sir my son age is about 8 months and his firritin level is 722.32 high he needs blood every month what i can do ? plz help
Sorry to hear that your son is facing health challenges. It's important to consult with his doctors for guidance on managing his ferritin levels. Here is a video you may find useful ua-cam.com/video/0AtGmIYMGzk/v-deo.html
could 38% of unavailable Copper be causing my shortness of breathe and exercise intolerance ? my Iron is high on my hair test but my ferritin is 70. Bit confused.
I use blood tests for micronutrients-serum, RBC, and WBC- to determine nutrient status. I find that very useful. Copper is important for iron metabolism.
In your book, you mention that you should avoid red meat. Have you changed your mind on this? Or does it matter sometimes?
For iron overload, I recommended avoiding liver and limiting beef. By limiting beef, I mean 4-6 oz. at a meal. The amount and frequency can vary depending on many factors as I've seen many patients lower their ferritin while consuming beef regularly.
@@trofrano HOW TO LOWER FERRITIN WHILE EATING BEEF ? DONATING BLOOD, I GUESS ? IN SOME COUNTRIES, THEY DON;T TAKE BLOOD UNLESS ITS A DONATION - YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL DO DO IT.
Blood test ceruloplasmin. Funny that he didn't know this.
Ceruloplasmin was not included in this video but glad you found it funny! One of the labs related to this that I run includes serum and cellular copper. Both copper and vitamin A can affect iron metabolism and help optimize ferritin levels.
What's your point here can you just write it down ? It's not clear from the video...what caused high low saturation and high ferritin according to you ?
High ferritin without high iron saturation is commonly caused by metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance), infection, inflammation, as well as chronic disease.
