I remember the first time I seen "No Through Roads" and it legit freaked me out. The creepy distorted looping music on the radio made for a very unsettling detail and the ending cutting back and forth from the kid getting his face brutally beaten in with the camera to some of their 'home movies' they recorded earlier wrapped it all together.
Interesting fact: the scene where the kid is bludgeoned with the camera and it's viewed through the camera was considered for an alternate ending for the first paranormal activity movie but it was scratched because it was thought to be too difficult and brutal

Actually there's a horror movie called Hush that plays with the idea of not being able to hear anything. The main character is deaf and mute, so a lot of scenes involve the audience not being able to hear the attacker and having to rely on visuals. Very good movie, highly recommend checking it out Edit; I love how I'm not the only one to bring up Hush, it's nice to see that there's others who brought it up here 😊
9:03 it's not broken, they're designed to be upsetting. it's easy to grow accustomed to single pitch and alternating pitch sirens. the eerie rise and fall in pitch of these kinds of sirens makes them a lot more difficult to get used to (and in particular, to sleep through). if you're used to hearing police sirens, you're likely to eventually stop responding to them in your sleep.
As a Midwesterner all my life, I'm very familiar with tornado sirens. But not ones that sound like that. I actually thing that the echo is cause not by it being broken, but because of the echo off the like 180 skyscrapers of Chicago. It echoes bouncing off all the steel and concrete, neither of which are good sound absorbers. The ones I'm use to are just the standard ascending and descending drawn out, one note wail. I do love the Midwest though and it's diverse weather.
@@HelpICantThinkOfACleverName there are different kinds of sirens that can make different kinds of sounds that are used to signal different things, which vary from city to city. all emergency public warning sirens operate on the same principle though. it's never just a single tone, but a bunch of dissonant tones meant to be difficult to ignore. they're usually like a bouquet of discordant horns all being blown at once. the ones that oscillate have little solenoids that vary air flow through the horns and alternate the pitch, some just vary the speed of the rotor inside to make a gentle rise-and-fall sound. then there's the huge electronic ones that make all sorts of ridiculous sounds - including the Westminister Chimes. i'll be honest, i don't remember what the siren sounded like in this video. if we're talking about the Chicago emergency sirens specifically, i promise that they're supposed to sound like that lol. the Chicago OEMC hasn't made any huge secret the design of their siren, you can read about it on their site if you'd like.
The only one that truly scared me was The Bells mini-movie. The reason being that you can be in a room with other people, or talking to other people and all of a sudden you are alone.
Dylan De Loe as a 3rd person viewer I agree, besides the bells one that gave me a jump the rest were just unsettling and interesting. But if you’re talking about living these scenes from a 1st person perspective I don’t know how you became like that but I am a sorry for you.
Instead of a scene in silence. do it with surround sound and pulses simulating vibration for footsteps. Like how in space you don't have auditory sound but you have vibration translated through your body. That way the audience can have a sense of what could be lurking while never really hearing it.
Fun Fact: The “No Through Road” clip is actually the first in a four part series! None of it is actually real (for those of you who may scare easily at this style of horror), no one died, and there’s some really cool time-travel lore and stuff connecting all of the different parts. Just wanted to put that out there, thank you for your time. 😊
Holy shit, thank you. The first time I saw that video was so long ago, and I was so confused by it. It seemed kinda fake, but it also looked like something that might actually happen, so I just assumed it was real. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
That first one was genuinely good for being due by some reason kids having an idea in 2009. I mean it was better than some proper horror movies I've seen. (also made better by watching lights out at night while it's cold) Also Seán's talk about the makeup was really nice to hear
Actually this was first beilved to be a monsters call because how foggy it was no one could see to far so they beilved it was so monster in the distance making that noise it's just a rumor though.
People who don't know those kids weren't dying they had a green screen and fake blood throwing all over and they get a hammer and break the glass and the hammer has a green thing to make it look real
That classic moment when a 60’s era “housewife” turns into a spider demon and tries to kill someone cause they get bullied for wearing makeup cause of their gender (which is wrong kids, don’t ever bully anyone or else I’ll turn into a spider demon thing and eat you) but then the spider demon randomly decides to not kill you cause you hugged your bully, only to end up killing your father instead, classic.
I know that this is joke but basically the lore behind this is that the weird spider demon kills people for their insecurities so when the boy hugged his bully he basically stopped being insecure (if that makes sense) so the spider demon thing killed his dad because he was insecure and stuff.

Actually there's a horror movie called Hush that plays with the idea of not being able to hear anything. The main character is deaf and mute, so a lot of scenes involve the audience not being able to hear the attacker and having to rely on visuals. Very good movie, highly recommend checking it out

Correct. I live in the Midwest so no stranger to them. They are awful, but it gets people to take it seriously, and saves lives.
science
All I heard was... SIREN HEADDDDDDDD
It scares Jon Connington even more
None of them were scary really.

The thing that I really enjoyed and respected about the first film is that it was all done using very simple editing and practical effects.
Same. That, and the acting seemed so natural, too. Like, if I didn't know better, I'd think these were just a bunch of buddies hanging out.
SleepDeprivedButStillAlive period
Hate when that happens
I know that this is joke but basically the lore behind this is that the weird spider demon kills people for their insecurities so when the boy hugged his bully he basically stopped being insecure (if that makes sense) so the spider demon thing killed his dad because he was insecure and stuff.
