So glad you finished and loved East of Eden!!! It is my favorite book and ever since you started this channel I’ve been hoping that would read it and love it. My senior quote came from East of Eden. “Now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good”

East of Eden was one of the only books from my AP Literature class that I actually enjoyed! It’s fantastic. But it’s been sooo long, you’ve inspired me to re-read it!

Some great reads there❤ My library holds are all showing up at same time so gotta go after those. I’ve read more books this year than any year. Love it. Want to say thanks for your great channel. Great hearing about different books to read. 🎉

East of Eden is immediately competing with lonesome Dove and Pillars of the Earth for my favorite book ever - it is so so good

My favorite Michael Crichton book is The Andromeda Strain, now that one is very scientific and suspenseful. I need to re-read it.

SK also put The Lord of the Flies as one of his favorite books, also.
The Sackler family is the corporation responsible for the opioid crisis. They were taken to court and had to pay millions.

I'm about 90 pages into Between Two Fires. I haven't gotten to "horror" yet, but I'm liking it. I'd been hearing great things about it for almost a year and held off on picking it up until this month. It's rare that I'm actually with or ahead of a BookTuber on anything, so I kind of hope you'll choose that one and I can hear your impressions around the same time I've read it. 😊

I've been on the edge of my seat anticipating you completing Easter of Eden. So glad to hear it's at the top for you. I think The Pearl is better than Mice and Men, 10/10 recommend it. Enjoy!

Between Two Fires! I’m about 100 pages in, I’m loving how unapologetically bleak it is, you can literally feel/smell the death in it haha… it gets my vote for sure!

After I read EoE for the club, I also read Journal of a Novel which is basically a DVD bonus feature for EoE. Every day before he started writing Steinbeck wrote a "letter" to this guy at his publisher. He would talk about the book, his life, his pencil preferences, all kinds of stuff. Worth a read if you're in the mood for non-fiction.

REVIVAL IS AMAZING!!! If Salem's Lot is his vampire book, Pet Sematary his zombie book, etc.... Revival is his "Frankenstein" book, you could say. ENJOY!! So jealous of all the people reading it for the first time. :)

I’m not in your book club yet, but funnily enough I read Jurassic Park and got just about as far in Circe last month as well 😂 I really enjoyed Jurassic Park until probably the last 20% it felt like it was dragging and the kids became so annoying still 4/5.. Circe I gave a good shot, but just not my speed and I found myself bored through it. Maybe I’ll give it another go

I seen Pearl before I’d watched X, which was fine because it’s a prequel. I also recently seen MaXXXine which is the sequel to X but I think this was the worst of the 3, a lot of it was really cliche. For me, personally, Pearl is the best of the trilogy. It was really fun and creepy.
I’m just over halfway through East of Eden and unless the quality drops dramatically in the second half, it will be one of the best (if not the best) books I’ve ever read.

I have a recommendation for you. I just finished “Now in November” by Josephine Johnson. A story about a year in the life of a family during the Depression in the Dust Bowl. I think you’ll like it because it reads like Stoner. The author wrote it at age 24 and it made her the youngest Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction.

Empire of Pain is phenomenal! Dont worry, by the end of the book you will know and hate the Sackler family (may they rot in hell) especially if you have a loved one who stuggles with opioid addiction.

I have one horror recommendation. A book of short stories by Thomas Ligotti named Teattro Grotesco. Ligotti is definitely a horror writer anyone interested in the genre should give a try. He doesn't hit for everyone, but if he hits, he hits hard. Bleak, pessimistic, lovecraftian. Ligotti is a philosophic pessimist and one of his texts on the topic, The Conspiracy Against The Human Race, was one of the inspirations for Rust Cohle's (Matthew McConaughey) outlook in True Detective season 1.

Michael Chrichton went to Harvard Medical School, but never finished the process to become a real doctor because his writing career took off.

Hell House is amazing. Some parts don't age well, but overall it's one of my favorite horror books. The original movie is awful though...it has similar issues to the new Salem's Lot movie

I just read Winter of Our Discontent and I didn't really care for it. Not much happens until the end. I think it's probably my least favourite of Steinbeck's works. And that pains me to say that because I adore Steinbeck. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on it! I also like what you said about Steinbeck feeling scary the first time you approached his major works. I had that exact same feeling. I got over it pretty quickly once I started reading!

Not a big Mia Goth fan. Her acting is just not for me. Her monologue at the end just sounds like Charlie Kelley from It’s Always Sunny screaming. People love that dialogue but I’m just like there’s no nuance to it. She’s just shout talking. Like Charlie. But not funny.
