- The Space Technology and Exploration Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center presented a five-part lecture series on “The Future of America’s Space Exploration Program” on the campus of Christopher Newport University. Each 75-minute lecture took place at the Yoder Barn Theatre in Newport News, Virginia and explores the ins and outs of America’s vision for deep space exploration.
Lecture 1: Path to Mars and Asteroid Redirect Mission: The First Step
Lecture 2: The Next Human Spacecraft: Orion and the Launch Abort System
Lecture 3: Escaping Earth’s Gravity: Space Launch System
Lecture 4: Mars Entry, Descent and Landing with Humans
Lecture 5: Spacecraft, Habitats and Radiation Protection - Наука та технологія
Slightly concerned... if you’ve forgot some basic space flight history and doesn’t know what am OWS is, then Chris Kraft was right “when we go back to the moon, you’re (the engineers, etc) gonna find out how hard it really was.”
Like Challenger and Columbia again. Lacking the capability they should have
What we’re capable of when we work together is awe-inspiring! ❤️🚀❤️
What we are capable of when we work against each other is awe inspiring too.
WOW from @57:43! What an awesome video!
I thought the animated Orion video @ 15:13 was quite badly done...especially with the deafening drum beating throughout the entire sequence. Why subject an audience to the loud beating drums ....what did that do for the video?
The first EVA was performed in March 1965 by Russian Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov .
This guy actually went to NASA Langley and did basic background on human spaceflight? Wow.
Does the ogival shape of the payload fairing have something to do with the fact that the SLS fairing doesnt have grid stabilizers like Soyuz´s?
How can I get a copy of the powerpoint you presented on the abort system?
what happens if abort landing happens not on water, but on land with human crew inside like in the video of previous test?
Höchste Zeit!
26:35 We lost the recipe?? LMAO
32:50 Launch abort system.
That is one crazy nervous scientist!
It seems like the presentation is to fellow colleagues, some of them more senior than him. I think I'd also be shitting myself in that position.
Why not building spacecraft in space orbit (modular build)and of begin flight from there to Mars. Pepsi and Coca Cola aboard.
8:47 I died laughing
+TheTrisonik Maybe time for NASA to adopt NAP (No Acronym Policy)... :-)
I'm at minute 22. Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov was the first human who has conducted a spacwalk, even though he wasn't able to move a lot. And there are 5 Lagrange Points , not 3. I don't know what he was doing in front of that audience.
The wrong guy to be speaker! Looks like he needs a nap
So it´s basically an updated Apollo module (60s outstanding tech for its time) with an abort system in case something goes wrong. Okay, it´s safer than the Space Shuttle program. What else...
It can be utilized during the whole sequence while Apollo's could not.
And that is bad because?
LETS TEACH TO YOU GUYS WHAT GOING FULL KERBAL IS,USE ARES 1 WITH RS25 ENGINES AND 4 LIQUID BOOSTERS WITH SOME FINS LOLOLOLO joking, you guys are genius
AND PUT SOME SLS'SUP ON THE ARES 1 PAYLOAD FAIRING,LOLOLOLOLO
There are no Earth-Moon Legrange points on the other side if the sun. There are not 3. There are 5. Everyone in the audience knows this. There are another 5 Earth-sun Legrange points. One of those is opposite the sun.
"Don't know which one is upside down. Could be him". ...Oh that was joke
idea: no idiotic disco noises when you show a film, second idea ..buy some mikes for the public that wants to ask questions to use...
sry, no budget, remember it's NASA not SpaceX :c
After watching some more, i realized that he isn't nervous, he just doesn't give a shit... :-(
The question I would ask him is whether he looks at alternative ways to solve safety issues or if he's just stuck on this (in my eyes) tacked on addition to the structure that is NOT the future of spaceflight safety. I also want to tell this guy that the answer "I am not in human factors" is NOT an excuse for not knowing the exact specifications on when a human body goes into standby mode and your ship NEEDS to be piloted robotically. And if you don't know the people in "human factors" maybe you should get to know them. These factors are the reason for your job, and you should examine them. This is nasa! You're on a mission. That means don't just be an ant doing your one little job with a limited view. Yes you need to know everything. Yes this is NASA!
,
Er hat keine Ahnung von den Lagrange points. Mixed up die von Erde/Mond und Erde/Sonne.
Anstatt 3 wie er sagt, gibt es jeweils 5 der Punkte.
Except, THE RUSSIANS DID THE FIRST SPACEWALK
I think he knows let the Soviets were the first to walk in space you just looks very nervous up there I don't think he's used to talking to crowds
I'm the first black female astronaut
N.A.S.A. means. "N" need , "A" Another, "S" Seven , "A" Astronauts....just saying...
Not A Serious Alancomment :P

are they at a nursing home?
Probably old because they can afford it, retired and want to see what NASA is doing since the moon landing impacted them so greatly. Also science kicks ass. I just wish they would just STFU, listen to the lecture and if you still have your question, ask at the end. Mercans are so rude.
To add to your joke, perhaps they don't want wait to ask because they may not make it to the end. "I am actually at a NASA lecture! AKK AKK AKK MY HEART!
NASA is great and I wish I could afford to see things like this but I would rather go to the Royal Institute in London.
edit: A guy at the end said that some of them were there when it was NACA. Amazing!
Is it that hard to say Perchlorate ;Aluminum and any old plasticizer. Look The Russians and Chinese and N-Korea know its
its composition. Sounds like a Police officer...Doh.... sorry sir, I can't tell you why I pulled you over... yeah, sure.
It must be tough to stand there and pretend to have enthusiasm for the world's most expensive portaloo. The whole thing's a bloody disgrace.
Haters gonna hate
Are u English? (Portaloo?) Bloody?) Americans don't use those phrases! 🇺🇸 Shouldn't u hating somewhere else
