You always go just that bit further for your customers, bolts/plates/bushings all get a protective spray to slow down the rust.
Always a quality repair.
I am an independent mobile mechanic and I enjoy all off your diagnostic videos and teaching. Although we aren't given credit for it but my girlfriend and I are responsible for the local technical school restarting their automotive skills classes after not having one for over 7 years now. You are a natural instructor.
i was nervous vicariously while you compressed the spring, and when you made the energy joke, it just got worse lmao
I was like "please just use some regular spring compressors! Please, please, please!"
@@Bryangx he was doing the rear springs they are not under tention like the front springs are they are just placed in
@Bob Sacamano it'd take a lot more to lift the car than what he's got on it there old mate.. Suspension if fully extended
If Napa did want to sponsor you would have to submit your videos for their approval before posting them, it would be one huge pain in the you know what I'm sure, not to mention you be beholding to a big corporation, not a good place to be I would think. Anyway, you got lucky with the ease of parts change, no broken bolts or messed up bushings, gotta love it when a plan comes together.....at least on the one side.....perfect ending!
Thanks for the video.
Not shocked to see you strutting around this morning with a spring in the step. Morning sir Eric!
I love how you discuss complex physics terms and make geeky physics jokes. Usually not something your local mechanic/tech usually jokes about. Thanks for always making me laugh.
I have 6 cars between me and my wife. Non of which you have covered anything I can use but I still sit here and watch 30 minute videos of you wrenching. So damn entertaining and satisfying to see you knock these jobs out!
P.S. this customer is going to pay dearly for all that Fluid Film. Because of you I am buying a few cans and damn they are expensive! Just like the Kroil.
I'm impress how this guy make everything without any eye protection, lung protection or even any glove on hands.
Impressive engineering. I don't think I've ever seen a spring come out that easy. Nice upgrade with the tripod too. Something else in your way now. :)
It's always nice when a job goes how it's supposed to and doesn't turn into a nightmare.
I like your attention to details and explaining exactly what you are doing
Had occasion to speak to a person the other day ... last name Wride. Couldn't help myself and called them W-Ride. I blame SMA!!! THANKS Mr. O for another engaging and entertaining video!
New painted parts in rusty cars is kinda satisfying
The family that owns that van must be just as loyal to it as it is to them. It seemed like the van knew you were trying to help so it didn't fight you. I'm sure it's probably looking forward to many more soccer games and trips to the ice cream shop with its family. Maybe 250k more miles of them!
Thanks, I have to do the same (rear springs and shocks) on my 2007 Hyundai Entourage and this video really helped. Appreciated also your bit of humor.
Just wanted to thank you for this video.
Wife and kids got in the car last week and she said she heard a noise like a gun went off in the garage! I looked underneath later and saw paint flakes all around under the left rear spring. I thought I was going to need spring compressors and it would be really involved.
After seeing your video I had the confidence to do it myself. Looked forever for a decent price spring and finally got a Kia spring for $110 shipped. Got it done tonight. Thanks for your videos!
Remember when coil springs were a daily thing, doing front end work? Those made me nervous a time or 2! Also remember when they lasted longer than the vehicle? How times change. Pretty good miles on that thing, though, so I guess I can't bust 'em too much!😊
I had to remove a pair on my '78 Cutlass I had parked for the winter behind my parent's tool shed at their house in the day. Nothing but hand tools and a jack, no spring compressor, laying on dirt and grass. I carried my 50 lb. tool box from my apartment in the city, jumped on a bus to the 'burbs, and walked 4 miles carrying that thing! Did that daily for a week until the Cutlass had all new Polygraphite upper and lower control arm bushings, ball joints, and inner and outer tie rod ends. No press - just burned the bushings out with a Mapp torch, and beat the shells out .. and when they didn't come all the way out, the hacksaw blade in my hand, without the saw frame, finished them off. Then the 4 rivets in each ball joint! Man oh man, a drill and a punch, and and 2 hours later I'd have the joint out. My tenacity was unmatched in those days! I feel I've gone the opposite way lately! Anyway, she handled nice after that, once spring came around! I remember lowering the jack after I got the knuckle to bust free, and that last little bit, where the spring starts to bend around with the lower control arm ... then POP! Always scared the crap out of me. I had a story drilled in my head by someone, who said their buddy's buddy's son's brother-in-law's cousin got their jaw ripped off by a spring that let loose! 😁
14:52-14:53 Loved it when those two 1” square rust chips popped off the upper shock mount. In all seriousness, I was REALLY impressed with how well that car came apart. I guess Hyundai/Kia’s metallurgy has improved.
I can't believe how easy those bolts came out of a 250,000 New York vehicle. From northern Wisconsin they get pretty damn crusty here also. Every time I do repair I feel like I'm just trying new ways to combat rust
Nova Scotia van. Replace the brake lines and calipers. That was fun. Hard line fabrication. It worked and was compliant. Took some imagination. I feel you, Eric.
Hi Eric and Mrs. O was going to try and find you next week to say hello but your some 4.5 hours out of New York so it won't be happening enjoy your videos keep up the good work regards Paul UK
Man that sure went great I am sure the Lord was helping.
Today is your day! Happy your day!
Love the music touch at the end! Always new innovations on The South Main Auto channel!
Almost 300k subs! You deserve it! Great content! Keep it up! Hard honest work will always prevail!
What a little b roll, now we getting the total filming package ;)
Love the new tripod! Way easier on my ears :)
@Oops Oops When he used to drag the tool cart and shake the camera it would almost shake my teeth out (due to my high power headphones) :)
I actually like the rattling cart. Hopefully we can get random cart cam videos now and again.
Eric,
Great video - thank you! I wish the suspension bolts on my 02 and 05 Focuses would come out that easily. Mr. Napah (said with Boston accent) should be an SMA sponsor for the amount of business you give them. Looking forward to more repair videos on this vehicle.
SMA#1
God bless
Paul
Eric, you are THE master! Thanks for all the great videos.
I think the 4th upper shock mount bolt came out hard because it was loaded; it was the last one out, and there was still some spring tension on it. Not because it was crustier than the others. But, I wasn't there, you were. Great vid. Nice to see those Kia's are so durable that after all those soccer-mom miles the thing is still very servicable.
Why do I find all of your videos so soothing?? Makes my day!
Writing Napa now. The Napa know how. Should know SMA. Great work. You really lucked out
with them bushings. 👍👍
Everytime Eric mentioned Napa that's a plug why sponsor SMA if he gives plugs out for free.
New respect for the way Koreans build rear suspensions.
Nice video, thanks for posting it.
My spring has broken in five pieces, je je.
I'll remember your procedure when replacing them.
I always think he says "welcome to the self made auto channel" 🤣😅. But I love this channel. I watch it on my lunch breaks 😁
Man I'd give both my lugnuts to have access to a lift. I just love your videos! I been binge watching them all and they are all awesome!
NAPA has good parts. They can get parts other stores don’t mess with. Never had a problem with them. You always have a choice between good, better, best on most parts.
The Kia surprised me to be in that good of condition considering the mileage and your location with all the salt on the roads in winter!
You see the same sorta patina on vehicles we get here in Ontario. I’ve always been a believer in Krown Rust Proof just for giving me a fair shot at getting bolts and what-not unstuck as well as keeping my trucks from rusting out. Great vid Once as usual.
-Pidge
Love the tripod. Now my eyes don't hurt!!
That Krown must be some good stuff everything came right out. Like everyone else I'm surprised how good the undercarriage still looks.
Well you’ve done it again my boy. Made it look easy 😁
Nice, smooth job. Two things I always hated to work on: springs and split rim wheels. Never had a major problem but those things hold a lot of energy that seems to be able to get released when you least expect it.
Very good video thanks I just bought a 2012 Kia sedona and good to see how this job was done
한국에선 세도나 리어 스프링 개선품이 나왔는데요 스프링 아래쪽 고무 일체형으로 변경
In Korea, there is an improvement in the intensity and rear spring, but the rubber under the spring has been changed to an integral type.
4 Dislikes = 4 people who don't know quality workmanship when they see it! How can anyone not like a South Main Auto video starring Eric O.?
Jeff Young the dislikes came from the same (now 7) people that only watch auto racing for the crashes. They like the mayhem and destruction more than anything else and have probably never even held a wrench in their creamy, lotiony (is that even a word?) hands.
Probably dislikes were because of the awful music Eric put in the video.
Nice waking up to a vid! great work man!!!
I love this type of video. Nuts and bolts. Thanks!
Nice video Eric. Looking forward to the next one ❤️
CMON NAPA...LET GET SOME SPONSORSHIP ROCKIN FOR SMA!!!
I knew I felt a little more stable watching this! The tripod explains why. Haha Bolts came right out! Must of had your toes crossed and holding your tongue just right.
Mario Chavez Yeah good seeing you here also. I’ve been following Eric O a long time. It has helped me out tremendously at work.
i will always be impressed with how good the old thunder gun is.
Miss the vibra-vision ™ provided by the former tool cart camera mounting...
I would so trust SMA auto to work on my cars.
Happy new Tripod, I don't need to hold on to my armchair now!!!. 😱.
Thanks for sharing and best regards from the UK.
Imagine how mechanics body hurt before air tools! Nice video you do great honest work
I love the beauty shots set to some sweet jams!
The new tripod is much better. Keep up the good work.
So satisfying when you use the spray grease 🤗
Look forward to seeing more videos from your channel in the future
Shave and a hair cut 2 bits. Nice job it sprung right along. Ya, need a intro jingle for the fluid film before the spray.
Hello Eric O., Don't know why but it is kind of relaxing watching someone else do the heavy lifting in the warm with all the right tools. How about a video on finding slow leaks (oil, coolant) on dirty, inaccessible engines? Keep up the videos and I'll keep my feet up. Take care. Doug
Eric, you are damned good at what you do. No if's, and's, or but's about that. Bar none.
Keep it up my mechanically inclined friend!
I would say the tripod works just dandy 👍🏼thanks for sharing another fabulous show 🍺☕️🥓🍩🥓☕️🍺🍨🍨🍦cheers
Always interesting and informative. Thank you.
The rust was with you! Noice. Thanks Dr. O!
I needed this....even made my coffee taste better!
The lower control arm bushing torques to the "shave and a haircut" torque spec. Nice.
Another good job,well done Eric
That spritz spray is magical!!
Gotta love the “ay there viewers” in the beginning of every video!
Wow, You made it look easy, lol. You are a good mechanic. I wish you lived near me, lol.
I just realized you use the Thunder Gun. Love that thing! I have one as well. Better than any 1/2 I've ever used!
Dasaahhhmmm. Keep that funky jive music coming brother!
I thought for sure I ended up on the wrong channel when I saw how easy those bolts came out. 25 yrs in Upstate NY hasn't been that good to any of my vehicles
I must admit I'm surprised the torch and Big Nasty didn't make appearances on this job!
Great job again like always
Thank you for another great video .
Nice video! Tripod makes a big difference! Just did a clutch on a Kia with 444k! All highway miles but still...
i noticed that the top portion of the shock mount can be flipped and the screw and nut would be exposed to the outside it would be easier to pull if it was inverted not suggesting just noticed that it can probably be done i watch because i like to learn i do must of all my own work on cars and it helps when you see someone else doing something thanks for the videos i watch to learn keep up the good work
Good Job. I’m sure glad I dont have to deal with all those Crusties like you do...
Hmmm...
Them there Kia's are not a bad design, what do I know though.
Interesting it came apart so well with all them miles
Appears KIA has become a "contender"
Great Video (with "old school" musical recap at the end!) NICE
This is a great video very helpful
Pretty clean for a 2010.. I had a 03 with 220k.. It rusted away in 2012 but the motor was fine.
SunuvaMunkey she was comin apart...a rare site in a rust belt city! Must be your lucky day Eric.
Nice job. I bet I know what breaks next. When you tightened that shock down, an entire layer of metal flaked off the mount...wow.
You crazy mutha (Que funky music) Love it brother...
2011-2017 Honda Odyssey has the same style rear set up. Spring seats break just like that one lol. We replace the arm and seat, usually springs are good.
Dude we have this exact van and can attest that while it's very hard to look at, the thing is freaking bullet proof reliability wise
I have the 2011 with 185k on it - spring just broke in 2023. Van has been super reliable and well built.
Everything tool has a hammer side!
Wow, KIA build quality seems to have come a long way - 250K in the salt is a lot of miles for any vehicle.
Спасибо, хорошее видео. Да и грамотную конструкцию инженеры Киа сделали.
Very helpful , Thank you.
Thanks for fluid filiming under the shock mount cover. my viewer's ocd was hoping you would do it hah.
AGREED. A nice touch. The kind of thing a Dad would do when working on his son or daughter's car.
That's the kind of chap I want working on MY CAR.
Nice work bro. Your lines are way better than Leno!Wrench safe.
master class , good luck for you
Kia knows how to make the bolts
Careful with that hot morning coffee at the 19 minute mark... you will start to groove.😃
I know I mentioned in this video there would be upcoming videos on the rear brakes and the font wheel bearing but unfortunately due to time restraints I was not able to record those two videos 😕 We'll get the next one though!
**Ingersoll-Rand 232TGSL 1/2-Inch ** amzn.to/2O2cjdL (My favorite 1/2" gun of all time)
**1/2 Inch Drive Master Impact Socket Set** amzn.to/2VZc8T8
i like what you've done at the end there with the music and spining the camera around the parts you replaced. i think you should do that more often it shows the finish product in a bit more detail. i appreciate the time and effort you put in making these videos you are a great mechanic. keep up the good work
What is it you spray on everything as you assemble the new goodies?
@@paulsmith9341 Fluid film.
@@ericcorse is there a brand name you use? I spent my adult life in Vegas so I don't know rust. I now live in Illinois! I learned a lot from watching you deal with corrosion! Thank you!
