Something important to know, for all who are interested in history and/or support Ukraine:
Rus’ ought not to be confused with “Russia”, which derives its name from the Rus’ but historically is a completely different state, which almost all its existence was at war with the Rus’.
Just like the Holy Roman Empire was actually Germany, Russia is actually Muscovy, despite their best attempts to convince everybody otherwise.
Its name “Russia" received only in 1721, when Peter I passed a decree to change Tsardom of Muscovy’s name into the “Russian” Empire (“Russia” originates from Rosia, name used by the Greek Orthodox Clergy in regards to Kyivan Rus')
Under the reign of Cathrine II Muscovites where even pushed for continuing to identify as Muscovites, and where forced to call themselves “Russian”.
Lands that “Russia” claims were part of the original Rus’, but actually weren't, are Novgorod, Suzdal, and Ryazan, since in historical texts of XI-XII centuries they are mentioned as separate entities from Rus’. They can be considered parts of extended Rus’, although their culture was distinct from main Rus’.
In 1493 Moscow prince Ivan III appointed himself to be the Great Ruler of All Rus’. No other kings acknowledged that. From that point on Muscovy started to make false claims on Rus’ ownership.
“Russia” is an offshoot of Ukraine and not the other way round, despite what Soviet and “Russian” historians have been trying to say for years. Kiev was a developed cultured capital when Moscow was just another swamp village.
Germany used to call itself the Holy Roman Empire, that didn’t mean they became the Romans, and all of a sudden had a right to claim whole of Italy and its history, but yet, that’s exactly what “Russia” did in regards to Rus’-Ukraine, which is a horrible injustice!

Maybe I’m extremely ignorant but I can’t imagine going back to a country that’s still at war after escaping. Yes it’s peaceful in those areas now but what if the fighting starts again maybe those who came back won’t be as lucky. Isn’t it better to wait it out.
My own grandad went back during the Bosnian war after escaping and Ill never understand why the house and the farm were gone burned down he knew that and still went back. My dad had to search for him after the war ended because we didn’t know if he was alive. He was lucky and survived but I know many who went back and were killed leaving their families alone in a different country. Why what was the point of that what drew them so hard to go back they abandoned their children.

The destruction of this war is intense.
First the Syrian way shocked me and now this
I say that because growing up in America and just turning 30 the conflicts i generally witnessed or past ones i was exposed to have largely been small, tight and mostly safe of total wonton destruction.
Not to say afghanistan and iraq werent spared of wide spread damage its just it was spread out over years and the deaths we read about were so small and felt very personal.
The numbers that came out of ukraine just absolutely floored me and i honestly believed war in the modern era fought by developed modern countries, unlike the untrained guerilla fighters of the middle east besides a few in Syria, were going to be quieter, more tactical with few large scale battles capable of killing hundreds on both sides.
I can't imagine what's it's like to be a civilian because drones, ICBMs and other long range weapons that kill with no warning is just terrifying

Russia doesn't have a chance to beat Ukraine. Russian little soldiers boys call home so there mom a can pick them up. Ukraine soldiers return to the battlefield after getting shot in the head. There is no beating that kind of determined people. Period

Excellent! Art vs War & destruction, the lack of humanity in the Russian invaders. Irpin based artist/photographer struggles to have his art works express the experiences of Ukrainian civilians and fallen soldiers putting their hearts & souls into protecting their homes, families, and former everyday beauty of lives prior to Putins barbaric civilian/residential targets & destruction. How can beings still celebrate the wonder of spring's blooming wildflowers from bomb shelters and day to day survival/burying neighbors scattered remains?
