So interesting to see P & T's lives, back then, which I suspect is fairly accurate, especially to the times. But also, the carpenter's efforts to go dark and deep to come up with a way to distribute the tape - back in 1995!!! - "online". Truly a pre-historic time for anything internet. The reactions of those who ask the carpenter to explain the internet to them is pretty right on for the times.
This was made against Pamela Anderson's wishes. They are making money off her trauma disregarding the fact that she didn't want this series made. It's exploitative. Also they show Pam and Tommy's relationship as a great love story when in reality Pamela was assaulted and abused by Tommy. I'm sure Sebastian and Lily did an amazing job playing their roles but I can't watch this with a good conscience.
It's really not portraying Pam and Tommy's relationship as some epic "love story" though. It's showing a whirlwind romance based mainly on physical attraction (highlighting the fact that they barely knew each other right after the wedding), and showing how things started to unravel as they deal with the theft and distribution of their tape. It definitely does NOT depict Tommy Lee as some rockstar Prince Charming. He's far from it, in fact; a womanizing alcoholic with too much ego and too little consideration for anyone other than himself and what he wants. But, IMO, it does make you sympathize with Pamela and empathize with what it must've been like for a public figure, especially one who is a woman (an actress being exploited and marketed only for her physical attributes, when that's not at all she wants from her career) to be mistreated by a bunch of typical, misogynistic industry asshats. I can understand her not supporting it though. It's a part of her life that was extremely painful and has to be difficult to relive, particularly without her input. I wish they could've gotten her okay about the project instead of just making it without her involvement. But Sebastian and Lily put in amazing performances, so I'd like to support them at least.
Sebastian Stan at 1:11 says: “… a 45 year old man …”, which seems odd, since several sources say he was born in 1982, so he should turn 40 this year.🧮🤔
