An Internal Gardens NJ tai chi student had a revelation about how his bifocals were ruining his tai chi practice. Discover how wearing glasses may not be good for practicing arts like tai chi, yoga, qigong, and other kung fu. AND more importantly, learn what to do about it. Also, bonus tip for non-eyeglass wearers, about how to alter your practice in order to develop more intuition! Strange advice, but solid, real world results. "See" for yourself!

Thank you for bringing up this topic. I’m a high myope and a yoga enthusiast and my most fulfilling practices are without wearing my eyeglasses. I find that glasses-free yoga also highlights weaknesses in my body that I then know I need to work on to build strength. Somehow these weaknesses (examples: in one hip or one shoulder) aren’t noticeable to me when I wearing my glasses. It takes courage to leave the eyeglasses in their case when unrolling your yoga mat, but I encourage folks to try.

I came to the realization about my bifocals just a couple of weeks ago. I had developed a habit of jutting my chin out during tai chi. A very hard habit to break as the muscles of the neck and eyes are trained in the wrong way. I enjoy all of your videos . Thanks.

For qi - use more dantian compressions and expansions, since Chinese medicine explains it as the source point of qi. The emptiness is the wuji - the nothingness "space" that is the stage for everythingness. Also, take very good care of yourself - the food you eat, the thoughts you choose to think, the lifestyle and patterns you live... all this is much more under our choice than we first think. Stay on the path and know that sometimes it takes time... I wish you peace and all the best
