    What’re your thoughts on these “easy win” class combos? Would you like to see them added in 10.0 with Draenei Rogues, Tauren Mages and Orc Priests?
    (Please note: I’m excluding Paladins, Druids and Shamans for a reason! They all require extra development time for assets and art so the premise of this video was to broaden the class list sooner without the additional assets!)

    Love these styled videos as it means more Lost Codex! I know it would be quite the hassle to do, due to art assets, but I would love to see Orc Druids as a possibility in the near future. I do hope Blizzard release more race combos and I'm sure they will *at some point*. Race / Class combo restrictions can have -some- benefits lore wise but allowing players more options will always be best, arguably every race in lore can be whatever. No one is really tied down by constraints.

    Zandalari couldn't initially be Warlocks because they realized "oh shit Zandalari can be EVERY non-hero class". As for Kul Tirans, since they pulled out of the Alliance they haven't cared about everything else that has happened to the Alliance including the Legion. Also me and my bestie were very sore about no High Mountain Warlocks initially as it made HM Tauren inferior to their normal race counterparts with what classes they could be instead of a nice side-grade like the Nightborne which traded out the Night Elves' Druids for Warlocks. Night Elf Warlocks are just caster Demon Hunters lol.
    Anyway, while initially there were lore reasons to prevent race/class combos, they are slowly integrating them and eventually they will all be playable because let's face it the player has been an exception that went against their people's beliefs for years such as how Draenei players are allowed to group up with Alliance Warlocks.

    If I'm not mistaken, Eredar (Draenei) have had monks since back before they even left Argus. Sure they were a little different than Pandaren Monks, but it's just like Night Elves being druids and Gilneans being Harvest Witches. Since the Lightforged were/are a small elite sect of Draenei, it stands to reason that they SHOULD'VE had all the same classes.

      While the lore isnt 100% solid , and just for a "sake of argument" I would speculate that the reason Light forged cant become monks is due to the
      ""balance" of emotions required for being a monk.
      The Lightforged are Zealots in there belief in the light. I think this would prevent them from harnassing the " balanced" nature of the monk.

    There’s an important trifecta of classes that act as tells/markers of each race’s personalities/cultures, where they can choose two of them, but the nature of those two blocks off the third. I’m talking about Druid-Paladin-Warlock. This is because Druids respect nature, Paladins are righteous in their beliefs, and Warlocks are cruel. No monoculture can support all three at the same time:
    1. Zandalari and regular Tauren are righteous and nature loving, so they can’t also be cruel without being hypocritical.
    2. Humans, dwarves, and blood elves can be equally righteous and cruel, but prefer progress over nature.
    3. Darkspear and Worgen are in tune with the cruelty of nature, so they don’t have the inner conviction to force their beliefs on others that paladins do.
    So I’d say no Zandalari/Pandaren/LF Draenei/Draenei/Mag’har/Tauren Warlocks. However, there’s plenty of room for HM Tauren and Kul Titan Warlocks. Night Elf warlocks I’d err on saying no to, and either Broken/Krokuul or Eredar allied races would get Warlock (and arguably demon hunter too) in a heartbeat.
    The monks as you say are a lack of coding issue or slight oversight.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому +2

      I think its disingenuous to categorize a whole race by the these three tells/markers when we know that Warlocks are often the most power hungry of their race. In a world where Goblins were given Shaman and Vulpera were given Warlocks, it's a bit of an outdated stance since Blizzard has expressed a ton of interest in letting the players choose how they want to represent themselves in Azeroth.
      We know Warlocks are the outcasts and 'freaks' of their people - forever damned to be judged by their allies for wandering down the path they took. A Zandalari Warlock, given how many Zandalari sided with Ghuun/Zul/Mueh'zala, is almost a no brainer in this regard. Tauren Grimtotem Warlocks exist outright, so why not player Tauren?
      I won't go through the whole list but I think the point stands in my opinion. Blizzard has flat out said they will be giving most classes to most races so a wave of Warlocks is inevitable - I truly believe they wanted to introduce some lore-sprinklings in for them but the tone of the video was really meant to argue: They don't need to come up with a reason for these races turning to Warlockism because it wouldn't be a huge cultural movement in the same way the Tauren of Mulgore aren't opening a Wizarding Academy with the introduction of Tauren Mages!
      The way I look at Warlocks is less as a racial-organization (Blood Knights, Druids of the Claw, Rangari) and more of an amalgamation of the darkest sorcerers from across the globe so a few stragglers of Tauren, Pandaren and hell, even Draenei doesn't seem as radical - creates diversity and intrigue with conflicting characters who go against what their people 'stand for' at point blank value!
      Of course, if we do see these Warlocks, I'd love any bonus lore they write in for them!

    Lightforged Death Knights and Forsaken ANY kind of Priest (including Shadow since apparently in the lore void and death mix like oil and water) kind of make your Warlock ban list moot.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому

      I look at it this way
      A LFD DK was a living Lightforged Draenei. He went and died. The Lich King infused his body with Domination Magic, and raised him with Necromancy. So he's still the shell of a LFD, his soul fractured and scarred, his body covered in light-based tattoos. But now instead of the warm radiance of a Naaru coursing through him, it's the chill of death.
      Death Knights canonically need to inflict pain to survive (or did once upon a time) so a LFD DK could be this paragon of Death and Light - he can't call upon the light anymore but the runes on his arms and torso are still there, still burning.
      Forsaken have always been able to wield the light at great personal injury, which is why the Cult of the FOrgotten Shadow became so important.
      A Lightforged Draenei, with the power of a Naaru coursing him, wielding Fel magic would be two huge conflicting sources of power, with Holy Flesh wielding the corruptive powers of Demons. Now, thinking about it, if they added some flavor to LFD Warlocks, they could be Holy wielders who use Fel as a "Chained leash" to use the powers of their sworn enemy.
      Maghar warlocks would just be Orcs. Kind of boring. I like the idea of them living up to their namesake and intentionally standing by that divergent point in history. Focus in on the cool Shadowmoon Magic instead!

    • @thenerdbeast7375
      @thenerdbeast7375 Рік тому +1

      @@TheLostCodex What I was referring to with LF DKs is if their body wouldn't disintegrate from the conflicting sources, neither would a LF Warlocks, which you alluded to in your discussion. When cosmic forces combine in one shell it is always messy, but bear in mind the Light and Fel are not opposites despite how potent a tool the Light is against the Fel. In fact sometimes it can be hard to track what is super effective against what in this cosmic scale of rock-paper-scissors. Just when you think you have it figured out something shakes it up. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way for Light and Fel to mix in the same way for Shadow and Fel or Fire and Fel or Light and Death and all those nutty combos. While it would certainly be a huge cultural shock, I believe their bodies would physically be able to withstand it. After all a Human Mage needs not be fireproof to cast a fireball.
      With the Forsaken, that lore of course was from before BfA, SL which apparently established Death as Void's kryptonite for some reason. On that logic the Void should reject an Undead host so violently it would have a similar painful effect to the Light.
      As for Mag'har Warlocks, I look at it this way. Most Warlock races don't go green, as they show the restraint needed to not let the Fel taint them. Blood Elves and MU Orcs are exceptional cases, having directly consumed the Fel as a source to sate hunger in the former and as like steroids in the latter. A Mag'har Warlock could show the same restraint, with the distrust in the Fel allowing them from tapping too deeply into the power. This also could play into LF Warlocks, both races using the power externally but not internally. Besides there is always that old saying "fight fire with fire."

    I agree about those 2 restrictions.
    I know you weren't talking paladins or druids, but Kul tirans, worgen, and forsaken should get paladins and humans should get druid.
    Also if Demon Hunters ever opened up to other races, Void Elves Draenei, Darkspeae Trolls, and Zandalari Trolls should definitely be considered.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому +1

      Fair question. There’s no reason a regular Draenei can be a DK. They are mortal (but long lived) and just like any race and if they can die, they can be reanimated.
      For LFD, here’s how I view it: A LFD is a Draenei infused with the light. The radiant energy of the naaru course through them but like any light, it can still be extinguished. Their bodies become hollow shells with nothing but holy markings engraved on their flesh. Lich King comes along and pumps them full of necromantic energy. They become a twisted abomination of what they once were ; where the warm, radiant energy of the light once dwelled is now replaced with the cold, raw, rattling power of Undeath. Maybe their holy runes actually burn them when they fight (pain empowers a DK) so this clashing feud of cosmic powers probably makes extremely volatile and dangerous.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому +2

      Here's my thoughts on it!
      Rogues do not always have to mean sneaky stealthy assassins, even if that's the baseline fantasy. For a sneaky, ninja, backstabber sure it's a silly idea but I like to imagine Scouts and Patrol-type characters fit into the rogue fantasy quite well. In the same way the Rangari troop from Draenor consisted of Draenei Hunters and Rogues as Scouts, Watchmen and Survivalists, I imagine Tauren fitting into the same category.
      The Tauren were masters of the wild throughout Kalimdor. While the Mulgore/Bluff dwelling Tauren may have an open landscape, the Tribes in the dense jungles of Feralas may have relied on scouts and pathfinders to border their villages and lands and watch for threats. Despite their size, I imagine a Tauren who wants to be unseen in the jungle can quite easily do just that.
      For the 'Pirate Yar-har' theme that fits some Rogues, Mr.Smite from the Deadmines is the perfect example!
      Just my thoughts :)

    Think for Zandalari Warlock it came down to the existing lore reasons of them having shown Zandalari Paladins existing in MoP and that Zandalari are supposed to abhor slavery, seeing it as a sign of weakness, which Warlock is all about enslaving demons to serve them. Conbine that with the fact that if they were to give both, Zandalari would have access to every non-hero class.. Yeah. I think the right call was made.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому

      At the time, sure but surely you don't think that they should be locked from Warlocks now ?
      The devs have said they'll be removing class race combos in the future as time goes on, so why not add Zandalari to the list of Warlocks now? The slavery-thing is a bit weird of an excuse since those who become Warlocks are all about power and control - so it wouldn't be impossible for power hungry Zandalari to turn to Warlockism!

    • @Kufell
      @Kufell Рік тому

      @@TheLostCodex If it was just the former, sure. But I do honestly think the slavery thing with Zandalari was another major part and I honestly like that bit of flavor, regardless of if it is also about power and control, a good chunk also deals with bargaining with and enslaving demons that I just don't think gels with them.
      Granted, if Blizzard decide otherwise, I'm not going to be up in arms about it, just if it was my call, I'd say nah, y'know?

They said these will take time because of the art assets needed. Brand new Paladin chargers/ Shaman totems, Druid forms need to be made and things like Paladins and Shamans require a bit more lore to worrk into the story.
      The point of this video was to add EASY wins to the Dragonflight launch - things that require no extra work for art or animation. LFD Monks is one. Any Warlock is another. Because all of the animations are in, Blizzard just has to code in to allow those races.
      Everything else is beyond an easy win and was intentional excluded from the video! I'll cover those later :)

      The idea was to talk about race class combos that could be “easily” added to the 10.0 roster with mages rogues and priests. Where paladins differ from those those (and monks and warlocks) is that there’s additional art assets needed and further set up for lore needed (Paladin chargers, setting up the premise for Kaldorei or Forsaken paladins) that requires more development whereas as LFD monk can easily be “enabled” with a few clicks.

The amount of new variety in arena and the game in general will be amazing

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому +1

      While I love the idea of expanding classes, a 4th spec may be too much - balancing is already a constant rollercoaster every expansion and adding 13 new specializations to balance in a single expansion would be a NIGHTMARE.
      But I do have an idea that is similar to yours: Class skins. Imagine a type of unlockable content through quests and story that introduces reworked spell visuals/animations for all classes! This could involve Race-Specific Class Skins like "Sunwalkers" that changed the appearance/icons/visuals of Paladins, Priests, Mages and Druids for Tauren/High Mountain Tauren! Avenging Wrath becomes "Wrath of An'she", Pyroblast takes on a more fiery, eagle-spirit shape while 'Shadow Priest' is adapted to become a 'Living embodiment' of the Sun (shadow form= fire form, shadow-fiend = eyes of An'she)
      Imagine a Necromancer Class skin not just for Warlocks but Death Knights and Shadow Priests too!
      The idea may seem less fun than whole new class-specs but the reality is balancing and developing a whole class (and the visuals) is a huge, unerealistic expectation. But updating the visuals and letting people choose "What kind of Paladin" or "What variant of Shaman" they want to be would be a huge success.
      If you like the idea, go to our reddit account (/u/thelostcodex) and look back on two of our class posts. We did a huge post covering "Class Skins for Paladins" and "Class Skins for other Classes) and we include a ton of images and pictures to help sell the idea!

    Here's why Mag'har should be Warlocks.
    These aren't the same Mag'har as the ones in Outland. They don't have the same history with Fel magic as the MU Mag'har do. They had a brush with it, but not the civilization-destroying, world-breaking trauma that the Outland Mag'har experienced. Calling them Mag'har i.e. "uncorrupted" is a bit of a stretch. Most of their people were uncorrupted. Being uncorrupted is not really a distinguishing feature for them.
    Unless:
    They mean something else by "uncorrupted". It isn't the Fel that they consider themselves uncorrupted from, but the Light. They are Mag'har because they haven't been "corrupted" by the Lightbound. That's what distinguishes them from the rest of their people.
    And that's why they should be Warlocks but never Paladins.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому

      I disagree. While "Uncorrupted" could be a indicator to the Light (even though many of them were turned into Lightbound), the reason this group is even a thing is because of the prevention of Fel-Blood being introduced to them. Sure, some like Kilrogg drank but they joined the Legion.
      They wiped out every Fel-user in Tanaan jungle after we left and prided themselves on the fact they were no coerced or corrupted (by Gul'dan) but that later became a stepping stone for their resistance to the Light.
      Mag'har Warlocks are just Orc Warlocks and it's a weird pointless barrier to break. Vice versa, if it's a weird pointless barrier, why not just let them be Warlocks? But their history is a time-altered one that is bound on Orcish principles, whereas Lightforged Warlocks goes against their physical beings.
      Agree to disagree I suppose!

    As a roleplayer that reskinned a Pandaren Mage into a warlock...I feel like laving people to freely chose their class like this could be cool but also really bland. Lemme explain:
    Players have been playing with this "rare" lore class ideas for years already, so giving those to them mechanically would be amazing! It would finally fulfill the fantasy! Yet it would also take away from the "rarity" of it all. Now we have to be sneaky and smart with out mog and character lore to explain why a pandaren or a kaldorei or a tauren would be a warlock, but as soon as it becomes available to everyone? That's just the new status quo. Why freak out when the peaceful tauren explodes spikes of fel out of the ground? That's just normal now!
    I stan for more customizations and more fun combos! But making odd and "forbidden" classes avalaible to play would ruin some of the magic, at least for roleplayers. In lore the idea of pandarn mages was also absurd at the start, magic is what shattered the world, so practicing it is bad! Right? Yet as soon as that option became necessary for gameplay pandaren mages weren't just supported but revered. Where's the fun in that!
    So allowing certain "rare" class/race combinations should be either accompanied by lore that explains that this class/race combo is still forbidden in lore, or not give them to us at all...

    Gnome Pala/Shaman plz.... Goblin Shaman already did not make much sense, damn drill tech totems. Why not steam Gnome tech totems. I think is really lazy of Blizz to just do Taurens/Draenei/Orc Mage Priest Rogue. Should of did Monk/Warlock/Pala if anything along side the other three. They have Microsoft to pool resources from, and that new smaller company team joining wow team. Its honestly dumb, that hearthstone gets a Gnome Paladin before the main game. Shamans/Druids/Demon Hunters are the harder classes to make for everyone, from design to lore implications. The fact the Paladin place in E plague has Orc/Undead paladins, shows you, all you have to have is the will to follow the light and path of the paladin, and someone to teach you. Same for warlock and Monk. Shamanism/Druidism seem to be only for certain people, but with new ele lore in DF, and Us bonding with the Winter Queen, why wouldnt she reward access to druidism for all, as a reward for helping Ardenweald. But DH, gotta find a reason why others would want to burn out their eyes, and constantly be combating invasive evil lustful thoughts to consume for power.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  Рік тому +1

      Why is it lazy?
      Mages/Priest/Rogue require no additional assets, no additional animations and absolutely zero justification for the lore so they can easily just 'turn on' the race options for those class.
      Paladins, Shamans, Druids all require work - they require art concepts, modeling, texturing, animation rigging and some lore justification. They flat out said in the interview "More race class combos will be coming but those require "more resources" so it's quite clearly on their agenda.
      The team has been expanded massively over the last 2 years and there's folks working on 10.1 already before DF is finished - for all we know those classes are being worked on. But don't call it lazy when we've no idea the true amount of work that goes into that kind of stuff?
      This video had one single purpose: show Blizzard that LFD Monks and Warlocks are an easy win for 10.0 since like Rogues, Mages and Priests, they have the animations ready to go!
      A little patience and who knows - maybe we'll see Gnome Paladins soon!

      You have clearly no understanding on how game design works nor how work/pipeline priority is distributed in any company. "Multi-million-dollar-company" means nothing when they don't have an infinite number of devs, artists, modellers and more.
      The team is in the middle of cranking out the LARGEST expansion (bigger than Northrend) to date and with that comes a ridiculous amount of development work. To say they're being 'lazy' because the artists who are working on Dragonflight rewards instead of Paladin mounts is absolutely insane and laughable, my guy.
      No matter the precedent on 'lore' like the one Orc Paladin in the Argent Crusade, they're still not just going to give Orcs Paladins without a proper introduction, much like they gave Tauren Paladins an opening via Sunwalkers.
      A single or few NPC's of one class that players can't be don't have to worry about racial mounts, racial forms, totems, animations or anything else. They can simply exist without much effort - adding that for players?
      A whole-ass different case. It's pointless to explain since you clearly have the toxic mindsight of 'Game devs are lazy because they aren't doing the thing I want' but you cannot even fathom what they have on their plate/workload right now to get the next content out there.
      That and you missed the point of the video entirely - I'm not against your class race ideas but I'm also reasonable to not expect them when they're in the middle of finishing up a huge burst of content.

      Tauren rogues are Pathrunners and wildstalkers - the grimtotem in Feralas have stealthed jungled units and light-Armored classes exist among the Tauren (Longrunners)
      Tauren mages are an easy win - masters of the primal elements with a focus on the ancient leylines beneath the earth. Instead of prescribing to Shamanism, a Tauren can easily study ancient arcane runes.
