@Ezra Baker thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
i have a 2018 model and coming from a 2010 falcon i have never been looking for anymore on the open road ,long trips are great , cheap on fuel very happy with it . safe car to drive too with useful safety features , cheers Steve
@Bill Brown Having test driven both the AWD and the Touring for an overnight test drive, I was made a great offer on the Touring, so I have placed an order and paid the deposit. Should be here in July.
I would have liked more comments on the engine and the cars touring capability. A bit of light off road would have been good as well. This video didn’t tell you very much about anything really.
This video is basically an ad - lists the specs Subaru themselves would list, no negative comments, highlights the changes to the new model. Barely any subjective comment on the drive or ride.
Subaru bring in the 2.4T. I won’t be replacing my 3.6 with this one. Failing that I’ll have to look elsewhere which would be a shame as the outback is excellent.
While lot of people are still stuck with the mindset of turbo / 3.6L , hybrid is what you will get in the next 5 to 10yr before they go fully electric . Tokyo has set a goal for all new cars sold in the city to be hybrids or electric vehicles by 2030. By the way HUD will be nice safety addition
I don't understand why people say they're slow. My 2017 2.5 petrol auto goes as fast as I want on the highway; overtaking is very easy, especially manual shifting.
Yeah, some people want a sports car? I've noticed that it seems to be only in Australia that people mention this car as being underpowered? Maybe we are just a bunch of "rev heads?" At 60yrs old I drive fairly sedately, and I just ordered a 2022 Subaru Outback Touring in red. I liked the test drive, and didn't notice any lack of power, but maybe if you're doing 100kms an hour and need to overtake someone it might be an issue?
@@mikthe2004 overtaking at 80-85kmh is an issue in itself. It just has to be done with either plenty of overtaking time or use the paddles. It's a computer management issue with most modern cars.
I really wanted the new model Liberty but they’re not bringing them in to Australia so I’ll have to settle for the Outback which is a shame. Cars are so much nicer to own than SUVs.
A cvt is fine for towing. Our Xtrail pulls a Jaco Hawk, a family of four and supplies for a week with no sweat. The only gripe, other than the elastic band whirl, is low over taking power but that could be the 2.5L engine being a little under powered. The 3.6L or Diesel for the Outback should in theory be fine.
You’re the only reviewer I’ve seen so far that has not targeted their gutless, underpowered engine. Why is Australia getting this when overseas markets have a better turbocharged engine? It’s a big let down yet again by Subaru who in all other aspects make a damn good car.👎🏼
Happy I picked up my new 3.6R just before this launched, even the 3.6 can be a bit sluggish, so I can only imagine the 2.5 would be like driving on valium.
Read a review on this Outback a few days ago from Sam Purcell giving it a rating of 8.3/10. Called the dealer an hour later and got a test drive, not impressed at all. Motor sounded like a sewing machine driven by an elastic band, 3 people in the wagon & it was gutless ( How can a reviewer give it an 8.3 rating ! ). Walking past the Skoda dealer I see this wagon up on ramps, looked nice, so walked around it. Guy asked if he could help so I quizzed him on specs/price/Eg. Took it for a drive, OMG, this thing has got power. Same price, better finish & interior, more safety features. I purchased a Scout 200
I have had six Subaru, latest was Outback my2017 2.5 CVT and I drove three years and like it very much as all Subaru before it. Now I have Mercedes Benz GLC 300e plugin hybrid my2021 and I think new Outback to be my next car when it comes to the market. And color to be Crimson Red Pearl :)
if it came with the 2.4T - it would be a no brainer of a decision. Why Subaru Australia - would you not bring that power plant in?! it would be a killer sales unit then.
As a first drive this isn't too bad - nothing in depth, just first impressions - although the vehicle has been out since the start of the year so this is perhaps a little late. I'm completely baffled by the "it needs a turbo" brigade. Yes, that would be nice but describing it as a "slug" with a 0-100 time of 9.5 seconds (CarExpert review @ around 17:40) is being unduly critical, in my opinion. I'd rather find fault with it for the lack of 360 degree camera, lack of cooling in the seats, and the fact that when you need EyeSight most - in heavy rain, for example - it shuts down. I had the previous model for 4 years, and found that the CVT performs very well generally. It can do the CVT drone if you really floor the accelerator and pin it there for a long time, but I can't see the point in driving a vehicle always with the accelerator flat to the floor all the time, especially in Melbourne traffic.
You kinda missed out the crucial fact that Android Auto does not work in full screen mode! It works in landscape mode only taking a third of the screen. It's an absolute disaster! Android Auto is blurry and about 2 inches smaller than the 8" screen in the previous model!
Its hard work driving an underpowered car, you arrive tired ,stressed, anxious and wishing you purchased another car. Test drive this one with all the family onboard.
Serious mistake dumping the 3.6 motor. It was an absolute delight. You need to be nudging 200kw in a car this size for safe long distance highway work. No bullbar availability a huge negative for rural use.
Like the presenter...but... take the bleedin thing off road as well please is xmode a con (or not) has the added rigidity in this model now made it able to handle some off road punishment? Etc etc
I’d like to see the sunroof offered as an option on all models - bring back the panoramic sunroof - as well as cloth seats as an option on the top spec, making it a bit cheaper. Man-made leather (like on Mercedes) would also be more palatable. Better urban fuel consumption - 10.5 l/100 km is poor for the pocket and environment. Then if you have to tow, it’s worse. Where’s the turbo option? If consumption is poor it should at least have grunt.

Shame that they have moved away from having the better performance engines, it will more likely make me move to another manufacturer going forward or rather buy a 2nd hand 3.6R if I get another Subaru ever again.
