Macron's decision is purely political. Unfortunately, the problems are not political. The rise of the far right, or far left for that matter, has to do with prosperity. If a government fails when it comes to its citizens prosperity, said government should not be surprised if the citizenry looks for alternatives. The government in power can call the other parties populist, far right or whatever else they choose, but this name calling is merely a pathetic attempt at deflecting from one's own failures. Many governments have gotten away with incompetence, irresponsibility and total disregard for the well being and prosperity of their citizens, and it has caught up to them. What is the answer to all of this incompetence, irresponsibility and total disregard for the well being and prosperity of their citizens? Is it taking responsibility for their failures? Of course not, it is easier to call the challengers names. How pathetic.
Macron's gamble to call for early elections following his party's defeat in the European Parliament elections is seen as a risky move that could benefit the far-right National Rally party led by Marine Le Pen. Macron's decision has sparked large protests across France, with tens of thousands demonstrating against both the far-right and Macron's snap election call. Experts suggest Macron's gamble may have been a critical misstep that could lead to major consequences, potentially normalising and empowering the far-right in France. Macron's snap election gamble appears to be backfiring, as it has boosted the far-right's momentum.

The issue of immigrants is truly problematic. The right-wing says on the one hand that most immigrants are unemployed, taking money from working French citizens to support them -- but then rabble-rouses with the claim that immigrants are stealing jobs from French citizens. We have seen this double-dealing campaigning in the U.S. In fact, neither claim is true, but it scares people.
Mostly all political decisions & public reaction are designed to address "current circumstances". There's nothing wrong with the mentality of "self-preservation". Being "lenient" with the Russian annexations & those gunpoint referendum introduce by Putin outside of his jurisdiction would certainly bring future problems not only in France or the Shengen Areas or the Baltics but the entire EU as well.
Populists don't take a long-term view. They pander to the masses, but when they fail to deliver on their promises, the masses get wise to them. So real power is a poison pill to our right-wing populists, but it's a bitter pill to everyone else, too.
