when u discussed the strongest bow/arrow hit in the game im guessing youre not counting bows with x5 arrow per shot? like the lynel bow? im guessing its because you strictly want to analyze with each individual shot? because when i used the lynel bow x5 with max damage and guardian arrow on headshots it just melts bosses.
@@ACloudWithoutAir Actually, the lynel bow combo with the ancient arrows is slightly weaker then the ancient bow one we went over in the video - as they receive extra ancient buffs that the multishot bows don't get (I think its only like a 20 damage difference though) Also, I already went over everything about multishot bows and elemental effects in a previous video, so I didn't want to repeat info here 😅
Great video, but what about shooting "archers" in the head to deal 10 times more damage, like you mentioned in the beginning, wouldn't that be the second most powerful bow attack? If my maths are correct, that would do 44 (ancient bow) * 1.5 (normal Attack up)*1.8 (ancient profficiency)*10 = 1188 damage, which is a bit more than the stalker shot (693) you calculated in the video.
@@fluffygalaxy6 Since the strongest enemy type that can spawn on an archery tower only has 120hp, you're not really "dealing" 1188 damage to them, you're only dealing 120, and the rest is overflow. These hidden mechanic videos didn't make me want to "game the system" any harder to make the game easier but they do give me a deeper appreciation for the labor the devs put into building one of the most effective and fun combat systems I've ever experienced. The hidden xp and elemental attributes and bonus stacking and caveats for specific weapons against certain situations really come out to the perfect formula without ever needing to reveal any of it's complexities through numbers.
seriously. if all these things (along with cooking mechanics) were explicitly shown to me, i would have not enjoyed the game at all. seeing pages of my inventory with rows and rows of numbers attached to them just makes my eyes glaze over in games. it's amazing how they were able to pull off communicating simplicity while having a complex system built underneath that actually works intuitively to the player. no, an average player would never be able to max out damage numbers without doing a bit of homework and testing, but getting decently OP is quite possible just by following the guidance the game gives you with limited information.
A couple things to note for damage: • The giant horse is the only one that can deal 60 damage when trampling enemies instead of 30. • Attack up DOES increase the damage output of Lynel Shields by its respective multiplier.
The giant horse actually still deals 30 - but due to its big hitbox, it tends to hit enemy's 2 times right away instead of one And yes I totally forgot to mention that with the lynel shields - it's the only exception out of all the other damage dealing methods 😅

Great video! Although from my own research I see some mistakes (or rather contradictions to my results) in your assessments about the Ancient Arrows and I want to give additional information, which I believe to be correct. 1. The Ancient Arrow does not get a +30 damage bonus from hitting a Guardian Scout. Instead it has a fixed 20 damage addition for all non-Guardian enemies, that don't get one-shot, (i.e. overworld bosses). However because this bonus is tied to the Ancient Arrow, it receives the 50% Ancient Weapon Bonus, when hitting Guardian Scouts and Blight Bosses, which results in an apparent 30 damage bonus. 2. When not used on Guardian Scouts and Blight Bosses, the Ancient Arrow will not receive a 50% bonus damage. It can however, as you have mentioned, get the 80% Ancient Proficiency Bonus even without the Ancient Bow. This bonus is also always applied to the aforementioned 20 additional damage. 3. Hitting a frozen Guardian with the setup provided in the video may not be intentionally nerfed, as it may simply be an artifact of the game's logic for frozen entities. When hitting a frozen Guardian Scout, the 50% Ancient Weapon (and 30% Guardian Weapon) bonus is negated, and, as you mentioned before, a frozen Critical Hit also negates the x2 Headshot bonus. This results in the loss of a x2 and x1.5 bonus, but also the gain of a x3 bonus, meaning there is no change in the outcome. Although an exception to this can be seen below. 4. When using an Ancient Bow in conjunction with an Ancient Arrow on Guardian Scouts and Blight Bosses, *both* weapons will separately apply a 50% boost to the given bow damage (including the 20 additional damage from the Ancient Arrow), which results in a total x2.25 damage bonus, when hitting Guardian Scouts and Blight Bosses. If you combine rules 3. and 4. in an applicable scenario, you can see, that from hitting a frozen Guardian Scout a x3 damage boost will be gained, but a (1.5*1.5*2)=4.5 damage boost is lost, which results in the apparent nerf. Regardless, your work is awesome!
I don’t think either does direct damage, but I am curious how damage is calculated for using magnesis to throw objects at the enemy. Flying/Falling projectile damage in general would be a great video.
Magnesised giant metal boxes can one shot moblins, bokoblins or lizalfoses. It’s just nerfed with gardians or lynels (500 damage for lynels and idk for gardians)

This was way more information than I ever figured I'd know. Good to know how the buffs and such stack though. I've been kinda winging it trying not to see spoilers as I played and figure it out. Still need to murder Ganon though, but I'm running around stat padding my kit so I can be ready for him.
Okay, I've been confused at where 1616 came from for the last example (14:14), because just going 75 * 1.8 (ancient proficiency) * 1.5 (attack up) * 8 (Sneakstrike) gets you to 1620 exactly. You *should* be able to one-shot a gold moblin. This is crap, Nintendo. I've deduced that rounding is happening at least once in the MIDDLE of calculations, after the attack up buff is applied and before the Sneakstrike multiplier. The Sneakstrike bonus must be getting applied after the attack up bonus because applying the x8 multiplier anywhere before the x1.5 always results in whole numbers, which means you would get 1620 instead, and properly kill the moblin in one hit. I can't totally tell what order stuff is getting applied in outside of that based off this single example, since there are technically a couple ways you could get to 1616. Further, the other examples in the video all start with an even base damage, meaning a 1.5 attack up multiplier won't give us a decimal but instead a whole number (and the 1.8 multiplier isn't used in the other two weapon examples) The only other decimal calculation is with the ancient bow against the guardian scout (8:44), and that appears to round down the "ancient weapon against guardian" 50% bonus from 193.5 to 193, which still doesn't totally help explain what's going on between ancient proficiency and attack up. Here are a couple ways it could be working, which could be narrowed down with more test data. Scenario 1: Ancient Proficiency -> Attack Up -> (rounded down) -> Sneakstrike Looks like this: 75 * 1.8 = 135 (no rounding since it's an exact whole number) 135 * 1.5 = 202.5, rounded down to 202. This, again, is assuming the product of the attack up multiplier is rounded down and not to the nearest whole number. 202 * 8 = 1616 Scenario 2: Attack Up -> (again, rounded down) -> Ancient Proficiency -> (rounded to nearest) -> Sneakstrike If this is how it works, they'd have to have different rounding methods for different bonuses (i.e., products of attack up always round down, while products of ancient proficiency are rounded to nearest). I don't friggin' know. It's weird. Anydangway, here's what that looks like: 75 * 1.5 = 112.5, round down to 112. 112 * 1.8 = 201.6, round to nearest, to 202. 202 * 8 = 1616 Either way, it bugs me a bit that they have rounding happening in the midst of multi-step calculations rather than just doing it at the end. If anyone has further insight as to the order these multipliers are applied, and when/what type of rounding is happening, that'd be cool to know as well! The reason I even care about this level of detail is because I'm learning JavaScript/React and trying to build a sample app that does all these calculations when you just plug in some information about your equipment and buffs - and I noticed my calculations were off from the test results here in the video.

Correction: The max bow damage is not 693 from mine experiment. Excluding one shot guardians(1500) and lynels(7500) the highest damage is achieved by using savage lynel bow(32 x 5) shooting ancient arrows in the eye of guardian scout with lv3 atack up. In this way the max damage of bow is 1044. Also, I have discovered that if you place a bomb in front of the scout. So all the potential damage buffs stack manipulatively? Thats real interesting. Also real interesting that different enemy types receive different damage from Urbosa's Fury. Your videos are quite enjoyable to watch.
When ever I fight guardians or guardian scouts, I always use the ancient proficiency buff because of the damage output. But when it comes to fighting lynels I use attack up buff with multi-shot headshots (specifically 5-shot bows, or just the great eagle bow and any 3 - shot lynel bows with quick-shot or just a attack up multiplie) it makes killing them so much faster.

4. When using an Ancient Bow in conjunction with an Ancient Arrow on Guardian Scouts and Blight Bosses, *both* weapons will separately apply a 50% boost to the given bow damage
(including the 20 additional damage from the Ancient Arrow), which results in a total x2.25 damage bonus, when hitting Guardian Scouts and Blight Bosses.
If you combine rules 3. and 4. in an applicable scenario, you can see, that from hitting a frozen Guardian Scout a x3 damage boost will be gained, but a (1.5*1.5*2)=4.5 damage boost is
lost, which results in the apparent nerf.
Regardless, your work is awesome!
??? im confused.
My inner Warframe player appreciates multiplicative damage.
Can not imagine how much time this took to research and compile, but it was a really great video!!! Learned a lot about combat.
It did take quite a while, but the end result was worth it!! I'm glad you enjoyed, thank you!! 😊
Another great and useful stats video, great work man!
Thank you!! :)
Keep up the great work Croton!
This was my favorite stats video yet!
Thank you Gavio!! :D
I thought there was a reason the Ancient Battle Axe ++ was my favourite weapon, it’s just so OP, and it looks pretty cool as well.
I'm wondering, how much damage could stasis or magnesis could do and if it could go higher than the other damage outputs.
Congratulations on the insane channel growth this year :) In this video from just a year ago, you had 25,000 subs and currently you’re sitting at 205,000 which is 9 times more!
Also the fact that you’re still replying to comments on this vid is incredible. I admire your dedication and wish you luck on any and all future endeavors
And now nearing 2023, He has 10 times the subs!
Just subbed, thank you for the info you share. Its helping me a lot with this game. You're awesome for taking the time to figure all this out and making it easier for others to understand
I'm glad this information is helping you out!! Thank you :)
Lovely video as always!
Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!! 😄
Future Hyrule item … the attack calculator! Entire math courses could be taught using BOTW. Idea for the next video (if it has already been done, ignore), figuring out which is better: using bananas to increase attack or razorshrooms? Using armoranth or ironshroom to increase defense? etc. Basically, which items when cooked do better than others when creating healing, effect altering, or stamina increasing meals/potions. Thanks for taking the time to create fantastic video.
That'll be a good topic to cover!! There's already some good info on the cooking system online, but making a video on it to help clear it up wouldn't be a bad idea!!
Yes a cooking video to enlighten the world of the creation of elixirs.
The clearly best way to create stat boosting food once you understand how simple and uncomplicated it really is!
This is really high quality content. Loving your videos, especially the ones on symbolism and Satori mountain. Keep it up. I subscribed!
I'm so glad you enjoy them, truly!! Thank you very much 😄
1:39 Blood moon after killing a guardian oof
That happened to me a few hours ago. It was the one to the north of the desert labyrinth.
All it did was increase my guardian parts tally, accelerating the time I received my ancient proficiency buff and giving me my third giant ancient core.
Amazing video! Thank you for your hard work! :D
No problem!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :)
I didn't ev3n know that the archery tower part existed. I thought it was a mistake.
what? archery tower?
I get so excited when a Croton video comes out, especially stats videos.
I'm glad you look forward to them!! Thank you!! :D
12:38 Note, the giant horse does more damage than the other horses.
Yep because it hits the ennemies two times
I know this game has been out for a while, but just started playing. Thank you for content like this! This is so in depth and so interesting! Never change 💕
I'm happy you've been enjoying it!! Thank you 😄
“The *savage* dealing *21* ” that’s funny
5:35 That's gonna hurt..
Ouch!
yikes
This is really nice to know.
It is sad how some attacks are so utterly weak.
Now we know at least why lynes don't use their shilds. The output is just too low.
These info videos are so good and unique one UA-cam! Please continue making these and also when BOTW 2 comes out!
I sure will!! Glad you like them!! :D
11:51 Awww shit my boy is playing on Cemu
This visual glitch you see here is an issue with Nvidia GPU's when used in emulating BOTW, meaning that this footage was taken from a PC, not a switch or Wii U
(Yes, emulating BOTW is possible, and has been for years.)
Great catch! This is actually my first time recording footage for a video using cemu, so I'm glad I got it running smoothly for the most part 😅
@@Croton You likely already fixed it but in case you haven't, it can be fixed by enabling the NVIDIA: Explosion Smoke graphics pack in Graphics Packs.
I didn't actually know that, so thanks for telling me!! 😄
I cant see the glitch, could you wlaborate for us please?
@@CarlosMendez-tn5zi haha yeah its been a hot minute since I posted this but its the how the explosions aren't correctly facing the player, making them rotate randomly.
This was way more information than I ever figured I'd know. Good to know how the buffs and such stack though. I've been kinda winging it trying not to see spoilers as I played and figure it out. Still need to murder Ganon though, but I'm running around stat padding my kit so I can be ready for him.
I always find this entertaining and educational
This is what we should learn in school
Well, time to get my teachers degree then 😂

What a great video! Just convinced me to subscribe to your channel. Keep up the great work dude

His Chanel being close to 30,000 subs:

I love this channel I learn so much from just one video and I've been playing since it came out
Keep it up croton
Scenario 1: Ancient Proficiency -> Attack Up -> (rounded down) -> Sneakstrike
Looks like this:
75 * 1.8 = 135 (no rounding since it's an exact whole number)
135 * 1.5 = 202.5, rounded down to 202. This, again, is assuming the product of the attack up multiplier is rounded down and not to the nearest whole number.
202 * 8 = 1616
Scenario 2: Attack Up -> (again, rounded down) -> Ancient Proficiency -> (rounded to nearest) -> Sneakstrike
If this is how it works, they'd have to have different rounding methods for different bonuses (i.e., products of attack up always round down, while products of ancient proficiency are rounded to nearest). I don't friggin' know. It's weird. Anydangway, here's what that looks like:
75 * 1.5 = 112.5, round down to 112.
112 * 1.8 = 201.6, round to nearest, to 202.
202 * 8 = 1616
Either way, it bugs me a bit that they have rounding happening in the midst of multi-step calculations rather than just doing it at the end.
1:20 thanks for saying one thousand damage, then going to a Lynel to say how much that is. good editing.
Isnt the drillshaft the most op weapon?
Yes, but I'm not going to waste sacred drillshaft durability to make this video 👀😂
Wait why is it good
@@carlagordon31 That's just an inside joke from his streams.

It can one-shot the ore deposits, deals massive damage to Taluses, and can even break the bombable rocks around Hyrule. Clearly the best weapon.
Less op than bread though
Thank you very much for all the research you did and compiled into accessible formats for all of us to enjoy! And you did it really well on top of that!
Infinity. The one hit obliterator deals Infinity damage.
no it does 999, the moebius logo is just a placeholder
For the next stats video it would be awesome to know how the shop restocking system works.
Brilliant video btw
imagine showing this to an early NES player and watching his mind explode
Do NES players think Guardians are Octoroks? Guardians were actually inspired by the Octoroks in the original LoZ.

Croton: Calculating Breath of the Wild's damage using Facts and logic
What about a video on the damage of metal objects with Magnesis?
Correction: The max bow damage is not 693 from mine experiment. Excluding one shot guardians(1500) and lynels(7500) the highest damage is achieved by using savage lynel bow(32 x 5) shooting ancient arrows in the eye of guardian scout with lv3 atack up. In this way the max damage of bow is 1044. Also, I have discovered that if you place a bomb in front of the scout. It will set it off by shooting lasers at it.(Which blowed link up which was not expected at all!
Nice new video
Thank you!! :)
This is incredible, thanks Croton!
No problem!! :)
Lol imaging having a Lynel as a horse you can register at a stable lollollollol
I know it's a bit late but with tears of the Kingdom coming up good idea you should do a DPS video on which weapon does the best which of course you know there's a Spears and the swords but with the two-handed weapons you can do the spin attacks it would be a very cool video to see
Random weird master sword functionality
It starts to sparkle after it’s power is restored, no matter how much you used it. It’s like picking up a brand new master sword
loved this thx croton

So all the potential damage buffs stack manipulatively? Thats real interesting. Also real interesting that different enemy types receive different damage from Urbosa's Fury.
Your videos are quite enjoyable to watch.
When ever I fight guardians or guardian scouts, I always use the ancient proficiency buff because of the damage output. But when it comes to fighting lynels I use attack up buff with multi-shot headshots (specifically 5-shot bows, or just the great eagle bow and any 3 - shot lynel bows with quick-shot or just a attack up multiplie) it makes killing them so much faster.

At one point, you say that headshots to archer tower enemies do 10x damage, which would definitely make the max ranged damage much more than 693.
Well if you headshot an animal the damage is increased like 10000x
