I’ve just watched this 3 times on the bounce. I watched many hundreds of standalone sets and this mate, this is very special. It’s genuinely amazing. Not only my favourite video but it’s actually the best piece of new music I’ve heard in months. Just awesome.
Really enjoy everything in this jam 🤩 (the drum groove with all the ghost notes, the big distorted industrial sounds, the pads, the arp, the structure, the live tweaks... Well I think you got it 😄)
What is this sorcery? This was a great track with a really unique sound (unless this is a whole genre that I've missed). I think you achieved your goal in creating something dark, yet danceable.
Thanks for this! I've been struggling for a while with my music. I can't creatively draw the song out in arrangement..now with macros for effects on master and scenes set up I can perform/write the track in one go. Cheers!
Well done Jay. Amazing amount of planning and deligence. Is the the new Push 3 groove box performance king? or Production rig for Ableton Live 11/12 ITB? Respect to all you do. Thanks, Stephanie
I don't find working in standalone all that much fun, so it's less a groovebox for me and more a way to build complex setups, remove the computer, and perform with only a piece of hardware. But there's nothing else for me that can make a full set of songs in one place as well. And thanks!
Great track! If you liked setting up the macros for a live set, you should take a look at the Akai Force. It's more customizable than the push and you can setup the fader and macro knobs any way you want.
Quick question, I just got a push 3 and I'm wondering how you use each knob to control an effect without switching to each effect with the button under it if that makes any sense. Thanks for the help in advance!
Great work mine arrives this week...controller mode though (I'll just hide the laptop discretely 😅..I was thinking about documenting my journey...what camera do u use? I also don't want my voice or fsce to feature...what editing program do you use to have the writing appear like that? Cheers Jay
Any camera will do, and with good natural lighting, even a phone is awesome. These days I'm using the Sony A7IV. For video editing, I use a free piece of software called Davinci Resolve. All the best on your journey!
Agree with Jay's response, any camera - will do, but a good stand helps to get an over the shoulder or top down view. I've just started using DaVinci Resolve - it's an amazing piece of software for free, I found starting off with iMovie has helped get my head round the editing basics first though. Good luck and have fun!👍
For single songs, and maybe full sets if I can get clever enough: the Octatrack. The Octatrack is my favourite hardware ever, period. But for full sets, for now: the Push 3.
I vastly prefer the Push 3, but I'm not sure I'd describe either device as fun or immediate. Both are decent tools for setting up a live performance, with the Push 3 being stronger. But I don't enjoy trying to write songs much on either, and see the Push 3 as an awesome performance/setup device. If you're looking for more on the side of fun and immediacy, I would probably consider something else first, but the Push 3 is a great centre-of-setup live device.
They're good, but I'm not a huge fan of most of the stock synths, so I don't end up using the pads as much as I'd like. Maybe I'll aim to do more playing on the next track!
@@JayHosking thanks for the feedback. I bought arturia pigments that I think is compatible and so far it has been pretty nice. More modern than all my old komplete synths from years ago. I haven’t been using the ableton synths but I am sure I am missing out on some.
Yes, killer track! I’d love more Push 3 centric videos!

Damn that was beautiful
Beautiful. Amazing. So Dark. So Light. Thanks for taking us through the singularity of a black hole and into a new dimension!
This is ridiculously good mate.
Dude youre so talented.

Badass. Nice dark jam. The bass and drums are killer. All around great composition.
Slammin' Track! Love all your stuff!!
really great live performance
amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Yes sir! Amazing set brother.
Totally rad stuff - absolutely love how you breakdown the gear while playing your tracks
Brilliant!
Crushed it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great track, love the bit where it breaks down and the bass line comes clear around 3:45.
That was so sick
Absolutely perfect track, man. Loved every second of it! Currently rocking the push 3 as well and this is very inspiring.
Very very good track. Make me think about Archive, back in the days…
Fantastic had just about everything, drama, tension and great sounds. Nice one.
this is so good Jay!!!! love everything about it! Dark and juicy
Wow!!! Loved every bit! Great sound!
My mind is doing all different sorts of things after listening too that, but in a good way, nice job Jay!!❤🤘🤘
This is unbelievable! 😍
Can't stop listening to this. Always so inspiring!
Damn this is good !!
Awesome job Jay.....gotta love those drums!
Another gem Jay. Much love to you!!!
This is - yet another - Super Filmic piece , so emotive and raw , .... I Love It ❤
Great track, love this vibe.
I'd buy that record, I find some of your tracks really inspiring.
Absolutely amazing 😊
That sounds wicked mate, put that on your next album pls
this is so good man
Playing some catch-up here. Just fantastic. I'm looking at that Push 3....
Just got a Hapax though. Learning that first.
The tension building at the 4-min. mark is nuts, my friend. Bravo.
I love the Blade Runner vibe from this jam !
Noice. Can see this over the closing credits of a Bond film.
What’s more fun to use for a performance. Push 3 vs Octatrack mkii?
Well done Jay. Amazing amount of planning and deligence. Is the the new Push 3 groove box performance king? or Production rig for Ableton Live 11/12 ITB? Respect to all you do. Thanks, Stephanie

Had one for a while. Really enjoyed the macros and fader, yeah. And thanks!
Tympo, eh? I’ll have to check that out. I kinda wanna try putting vocals to this tune somehow. Enjoy Vocals.
After using a clips-and-arranger workflow, nothing else really seems worthwhile. It's just so much easier to get stuff done that way...
Great stuff.
Quick question, I just got a push 3 and I'm wondering how you use each knob to control an effect without switching to each effect with the button under it if that makes any sense. Thanks for the help in advance!
I'm using the MultiMap tool from the Max4Live Essentials bundle (it's free). You can map whatever parameters to one knob. Enjoy!

Great call on the stand,@@retlasd. I use a very heavy mic stand with a boom arm, but there are other great options, too.
Awesome! and your verdict, if you can use just one machine between Oct and Push3, which one could be your choice?
For single songs, and maybe full sets if I can get clever enough: the Octatrack. The Octatrack is my favourite hardware ever, period. But for full sets, for now: the Push 3.
Yeah🎉
Hi Jay! Which do you prefer between Push 3 and Akai Force? (sounds fun, immediacy, etc..)Thank you!

@@JayHosking Thank you!! 🙏 PS: What do you recommend I consider first?
My god, you're cool...
Amazing as always! How do you like the mpe pads? I just got back into ableton after years away and I am eyeing push 3.
They're good, but I'm not a huge fan of most of the stock synths, so I don't end up using the pads as much as I'd like. Maybe I'll aim to do more playing on the next track!
