I’ve got 2 of the 28” and a 36” Big Guy. Have had some similar issues with the 28” Big Guys, but haven’t really figured out a better option yet. I’d love to hear what some others feel is a better option for surface cleaners.

+Curt Spencer hey Curt, have you gas any issues with the 36”? Does it have the same components as the 28”? I want to hear from others too and wish Whisper Wash would improve the design because I do like the surface cleaner.

Only issue with the 36” has been getting enough pressure. We have the 4 tip model. We dropped the tips to 15015’s I think? That got it getting enough flow from our 8gpm machine. Granted, we may not be getting full capacity from the machine we were running the 36” cleaner with, but it wasn’t an issue with the 28” models.

Hi Mike...I have an 8gpm machine and have had my big guy for 18 years. During that time, I have never had to replace the handles and my axle assembly after 18 years doesn't look like that. I run mine with hot water and each year I have to replace the cartridge and new bearing for the wheels and every two years I replace the brush. I was shocked to see your axle plate. It seems they are building the newer ones with cheaper materials for sure!

I have the 28" surface cleaner. I am new to this and haven't used it near as much. I just used it for 3 hours straight the other day and it was a champ. We did not SH on that job though so it may not rust like yours does, seeing that I don't use the corrosive stuff as much. Thank you for the warning. I will be looking into a new one and some replacement parts for the Big Guy so I can keep it going. If it adds up quick like yours I would like to go a different route.

I have a big guy. I have replaced the cartridge 2x in 12 months. Hit a rock once and my helper ran over a clump of grass. I am getting rust build up around flat area and the round housing. I previously had a 24” ground force whisper wash and loved it. I will probably go back to that again. I am running (2) 8 GPMs.

I surface clean quite a bit of residential concrete, and I use a Surfacemaxx Surface pro 15" with my 3gpm and its lasted over a year so far and works fantastic. Ill be getting a larger machine and surface cleaner come next year.

I use the BE 20 inch stainless surface cleaner.
BE makes a 30 inch with a water broom, its stainless with castors, but the handle does drop to the ground when let go.
No issues with my 20, although I run cold water @ 4 gpm

+Jim thanks For the info. We’ve had a few of those as well, in fact I think I have at least two in our storage unit that need new casters and swivels.

  • @pressurewashingbysterlingw9883

Like to give a little review if I may. I dont have a Big Guy just a 19 inch Classic. I replaced the plastic hood twice. Now I’m using the metal hood. It’s does great! The rivets would come out often I have replaced them with aluminum machine screws and loctight nuts and now no problems. Instead of replacing the gun I have zip tied the whip hose to the handle and replaced it with a quick connect plug and control it with the ball valve which I like it increased my flow.

I bought my first one in ‘21. I have two. As well as two classics. Other than issues that were my fault I find that they’ve been super reliable. I wonder if they changed their design. I run them pretty hard, and with heat.

Do what i did. Found a plastic/Perspex sign maker . 3 mm thick on the side & top. Centered a VM404 swivel, had a machinist make a 4 outlet circular base for the swivel, made my own bars. S/S elbows, 4 x 25025 1/4 meg nozzels, & away we go. Have been using it for about 15 yrs or so. Think I replaced 4 swivels over that time.

Man that’s crazy, mine is going on 3 years old and no issues. I agree on the axle assembly that it should be stainless. I modified mine with a 1/2” gun, hose and lawnmower knobs to break it down but no wear issues from using it regularly.

Hi, I'm getting ready to purchase equipment to start out in a pressure washing business. I had planned to purchase a 4400 psi, 4 gpm washer and a 20" surface cleaner but now I'm wondering if I should go with an 18" instead for better quality and efficiency. Can you advise me?

Having it sit on an open trailer set up also corrodes everything 10x quicker. I just bought one off of a buddy that was a year old and he had an open trailer unit everything was rusted out and needed to be replaced.

Have 2. One is 12months old other is 18months. I agree whole heartedly with this video. I would never EVER buy another. I could have bought 2 better ones for the money I have spent on fixing and replacing parts. They are fast tho, but expensive to keep running here in Australia.

    • @AllAboutPressureWashing
      @AllAboutPressureWashing  4 роки тому +1

Sorry to hear that and that is why I made this video - I would love to hear from the manufactuer about how they are going to improve these but until then, I just hate seeing people spend money on a product that is designed to fail!

I think that is exactly it. It is designed to fail. From the steel frame to the bar. We have worn through one and lost all pressure as all the water was simply blowing out the end?
Think they came up with an awesome product and then went hold on, we can get every part cheaper and then we can sell more and make more profit FOR US.

Going on a 3rd calendar year of almost daily use of our big guy and I have yet to have any of these issues. The only downfall originally was placement on the trailer because it takes up so much space but we quickly resolved that and have a dedicated spot for it. We do not run heat or SH through the cleaner either. Yours has rusted out so bad that it's as if you had an sh leak that constantly dripped all over the unit. Very strange that you went through all of that you have. Definitely an unfortunate.
