- I know it's been a SUPER LONG time since my last post. A lot has happened in life since the last video. A pandemic, the world shutting down, buying a house, etc, but I'm back. No better video to come back with than the most requested song I get, On the Nature of Daylight by Max Richter!
Playing along with me is my dear friend Caitlin Edwards. Caitlin is an AMAZING violinist and I'm so glad she decided to do this video with me. Be sure to check her out on Instagram @ViolinistCaite

HE IS BACK
THE KING IS BACK!!!!
LONG LIVE THE KING!
KING IN THE NORTH!
HAIL TO THE KING BABY!
Right?!?!
I've been waiting ever so patiently :)
I usually programme games and listen to music on the side. But when I heard this, I had to stop everything I was doing. And look who the hell can transport so much emotion into a piece of music. You are not just playing something, you are the music itself in the truest sense of the word. Absolutely fantastic.
Facts
Listening to this, it sounds so simplistic, but there's the irony.
A.K., I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly. I love to watch and listen to this man bring something to life. It's like his instrument is a piece of him - an appendage of sorts that's attached to his heart. Have you heard him cover Ludovico Einaudi's Nuvole Bianche, yet? It will not disappoint.
Very talented musicians doing this great piece of music justice!
Straight facts
It's humbling to think of artistry capable of this level of amazing.
I play this music when I need to cry
So, Hannah... This is where your story begins. The day they departed. Despite knowing the journey... and where it leads... I embrace it. And I welcome every moment of it.
Arrival ❤️
Wonderful movie
Could possibly never forgot all the emotions this dialogue created 🤐
those lines always shatter my heart into a thousand tiny pieces... I'm sobbing uncontrollably right now...
Thank you for this. I just watched a video where this song was used, and I couldn’t focus on what was being said in the video. I was just so focused on the music. I knew I’d heard it somewhere before, but I couldn’t remember where.
Max Richter would approve 💯
He really would. This is beautiful work!
He truly would.
Truer words have never been said
I concur
He would be proud
How is this possible?? I just discovered this music few days ago, it became my obsession, and now outta nowhere he is playing this??
I know right. It's one of my favorite songs.
The UA-cam Algorithm knows all.. 😆
Tell me what you think of how I used the music in my experimental film "acceptance of death" ?:)
One of the best for sure
Ever heard of coincidences? Happen all the time. You can call it destiny if you're gullible enough.
I lost my friend 11 years ago. Hearing this song floods me with such grief. My wife told me something so beautiful though.
“Grief is unexpressed love.”
In a way, I hope I don’t stop grieving.
Thank you for this beautiful cover of such an impactful piece of music.
This... This is why UA-cam is the ONLY form of so called "social" media that I'm prepared to tolerate...
Simply... Beautiful... And Beyond Words...
Keep Strong People! In these very turbulent times...
Peace... Always...
Cancer is taking me away this is bringing me back
All the love man, it's tough.
Stay strong you have power over your mind 💪
I... Am... Sorry...
I too understand... The sheer POWER of Music...
Indeed... I think I have found... The one track... That I would like for them to play... When it is MY turn... To say Goodbye...
Thank You... For Sharing...
Look up Yahki
big hug - from a surviver, as you will too!
It's not the hands this man plays music with. It's his heart.
That Cello Guy and this violin lady - Really well done!
I've listened to this masterpiece a hundred times but sit here in tears at this version. Blown away
For 6 minutes and 24 seconds I finally felt like the craziness of the past year - all the struggles and all the loss - briefly subsided and let beauty come back into my heart. Thank you so much for this gift.
Just leaving a note from a fellow human to call you back to beauty.❤️
This.
I am a therapist - I am going to add this to my toolbox of music which can help with dysregulation and anxiety. Dope AF. Absolutely, consummately professional, beautiful, and flawless.
Right! God, it heals one's very soul.
High Årt
Thank you. As someone who suffers severe anxiety, it really does help. Your patients are lucky they have you.❤️
Max Richter's Sleep is great for anxiety and helps you sleep.
It's over eight hours long.
idk this one gives me a heart ache... probably the saddest song that comes to my mind.. still beautiful tho, and beautifully played
Seriously? I mean, yeah it's beautiful, but it's the kind of beautiful you serenade yourself with while committing suicide.
"On the nature of daylight" is such an iconic piece (Shutter island, Arrival), and your rendition is meticulously accurate as much as it is heartfelt and moving. I am a big fan of classical music played in movies, and covers of them, and this is one of the best I've heard in my life. Congrats to both of you, you are both very talented.
I want to say downfall (ww2 movie )
and now last of us s1 ep3! every time i hear this melody it breaks me. in a good way. incredible.
Any other examples to give of classical covers from film music of that quality please ? 😊
@@clementbivel1617 Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber comes to mind
This is the most beautiful, saddest, simplest, most complex thing I have ever experienced
It's 1:30 in France and I discover this masterpiece...
T’as vu c’est magnifique
This song has been haunting me for years since she's gone
So sorry
You and your friend sir...the best rendition I've ever heard!
He returns only when the time is right, no sooner, no later.
I started to cry before even starting to listen because I already knew the wrath of your musical prowess would befall us.
I just need you to know how much I truly enjoy your music. Since covid I started working from home. I have listened to you everyday. I am a telemarketer.. I Know, I know... but..I have heard some incredible stories from all over the U.S stories from folks that I will never forget. Sad, lost, broken, retiree's who hadn't seen anyone, and some inspirational from the perseverance of our strength through such hard times. You were the background music. You are tied in so many memories of 2020 for me. I told my spouse just the other day once we go back to the office, outta of our safe bubble, I'll miss you the most. I still will have my breaks lol but you sir are amazing. I can't even 😭 thank you!
This masterpiece sometimes is unbearable for your soul.
I don't think I've heard any sadder song than this
The beauty of the song is that, yes, it is sad, but it is relatable with love and the beauty of that love, just amazing.
It's one of the most beautiful songs in the world. ❤
@@user-dc4wh3lm3x It's sad ,but then It isn't I cant put my finger on it and I believe this is the case because its beyond words and labels.
This music is not sad to my ears. This is what makes it beautiful; it is unclassifiable.
It's sad but it eases heartaches
This song and Arrival reminds me that it's worth it. There is pain and grief and all the bad things that will happen, but it is still worth living through. There is pain, but there is also beauty and love and joy and peace woven through it. Let it all wash over you.
900 likes and 0 dislikes...perfectly balanced, as all things should be
2.2k likes and 0 dislikes...still perfectly balanced...
Lol no one should ever dislike this
To the 12 people so far that have disliked this... I would like to say 🖕🏻 a big F**k you... go and educate yourselves on music because this guy is amazing and I wish I had the talent that he’s got!!
Ugh Max Richter. I saw him live for his SLEEP performance and it was the best time of my life. This is beautiful! Amazing work!
Wow you are so lucky
Every time I hear this song I feel a strong sadness. It is incredible how a piece of music can carry so much feelings and passion.
Every time that i'm alone and i start to think about my life, my future and the day that i'll leave this earth, this song comes up in my mind. Max Richter created my life anthem.
i am a cellist myself, and every single one of the pieces you have made a cover of have been some of my all time favorites that i love to play as well. You are one one the most talented people i’ve come across in my days and are an inspiration to me and probably many others. I was so excited when i saw that you had posted another video, and when i saw what song it was i was completely in shock. thank you so much for the beautiful music and the incredibly hard work i know you’ve put into it! God bless you and please never stop playing!
Max Richter really is a composer of a new era for classical. I’m thankful and quite glad you seem to share that sentiment too!
I don't know why, but the fact that you've both worn the same color lends something extra to this video.
Cello and this man's vision are so beautiful for my soul.
Edit. Then the violin came in....
Shutter Island sadness kicking in!
i requested this YEARS AGO!!!! Holy shit its even better than i pictured it would sound. You are what youtube is all about. Thank you buddy!
I did too!
From my point of view: this is one of the greatest pieces of modern music out there.
Ever since I first heard it in the “Shutter island” movie - I just can’t stop listening to it from time to time. It turns my soul inside-out every time and sets the storm of emotions and images in my head. Max Richter is a genius for sure: he was able to put so much “story” in a short music composition. It’s incredible.
I was so pleased to hear you playing it, thank you.
So nice of UA-cam to recommend this video TWO WEEKS after it was released when I have all notifications from this channel turned on!
On another note, thanks for the awesome performance!
This is music so beautiful that I just lay on my bed and cried for 6 minutes and 25 seconds.
This is the best performance of this song I’ve heard. It’s just really good and I can feel it.
I have over a thousand Classical music songs in my library, hundreds of new age and Indian songs that are so beautiful. But, this is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard! I just subscribed.
I am BEYOND thrilled that y’all chose to perform this beautiful composition by Max Richter. It is truly one of my favorites and gives me chills. It is truly IDENTICAL and I can only imagine how proud Max Richter would be. Absolutely phenomenal, thank you both so much! 🙌🏽😌
You just don't know how much I love Cello. When the violin starts I feel very humbled. What a great piece of music and you played it wonderfully.
I used to play this piece to my son to help him sleep. This will always have a special place in my heart. Beautifully played!
:O .... and then there were two😭 you guys are making me cry... sooo good
I lost it when they played this song in The Last Of Us episode 3… Honestly the best piece of television I’ve ever seen
max richter would be proud his masterpiece has been outdone. Thank you for this
This is even better than the original recording, loved it so so so much! Thank you very much for the experience and thank you guys for giving us this exceptional performance.
no ad - legendary music - legendary person
Such a painting of sadness that i find so uplifting at the same time.
Never seen someone play with so much soul. Wow. ill seriously never understand how this channel is so underrated
Wow, been so long! I went back to your channel a few weeks ago and wondered when you’d post again! Can’t wait for the video!
This is so phenomenal. On the nature of daylight is one of my all time favourites, as it really, truly gets to you. You can feel the depth of its sadness in your soul, and I was excited to see that you and Caitlin have done it, if anyone can do it justice it’s you guys!
I cried out of happiness. I closed my eyes and saw myself happy for once!
Every time I listen to you I get shivers and tears. Cannot even imagine hearing/seeing you play live. I think it would kill the man. Caitlyn is phenomenal as well, and am so excited to see this duo.
OMG OMG OMG Can't believe the KING is covering this masterpiece. I'm in tears 😭
This piece is pure pathos and beauty…thank you.❤🥲
This tune means so much to me - so much emotion and feeling that words can’t describe. You nailed it - just perfect. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. You change lives.
All of your music is phenomenal. This is one of my favorite songs and when i saw this and it said "posted 19 minutes ago" a huge smile span across my face.
It's not just music, it's life itself
Painted "arrival" movie banner while listening to this on repeat for 17 hours. Thanks for this amazing cover!
We’ve missed your talent. Glad you’re back.
How can anyone dislike this video? Seriously? What is wrong with people...
it's good to listen to this music from your hands again. thank you for your effort. ops and madam, we haven't forgotten you either. thanks ! we want to see you more. 💙❤️️
I played this for kittens. They are gobsmacked, just completely astonished!
I am too, but it’s cuter when little cats dig violin and cello.
One of the best performance that I ever heard, play masterfully!
The Last of Us episode 3 brought me here. Beautiful
These tracks were put down perfectly. Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!! I could feel the music
Didn't think I would tear up today. This performance reaches my soul.
They’re both so talented!
Some of the best cello playing on the site!
The king has finally returned! You have no idea how much I've waited for this!!!
touch my memories
There's such an emotional quality to your playing that few musicians can convey, and it really touches the soul so deeply. Thank you for posting this, so beautiful. ❤
In amongst all the pressures that surround you an amazing cover ! Stay safe my friend, the world needs more of the serenity you create.
I saw that video a few days ago, loved the music and, for the first time in my 42 years long life, I'm happy to have a music in head that won't go.
By far the best cover...by far. Those people that disliked this are just jealous they can’t play like you guys.
Brother you have given me an appreciation for the cello that I never had before. Benedictus is my go to piece before meditation. Thank you for sharing your talent and love of music.
I discovered this beautiful piece of music about a month ago, Can't stop listening. You're amazing. Thank you for covering this.
Your playing breaks hearts, makes us think of all that was before 🥲🥲🥲🥲😔😔😔
I’m a violinist and I have to give cello guy big prompts he is the star! I subscribed too rock out man! Bravo!
Bravo, bravo, bravo, I could listen to this all day long! WHAT A WONDERFUL PEICE!
Been a while since I listened to The Cello Guy. Didn't realize how much I needed it! So pure....so beautiful. You and Caitlin eased my night....thank you.
One word...GOOSEBUMPS!
There are no words to describe how this makes me feel.
This bitter earth
Well, what fruit it bears
Ooh, this bitter earth
And if my life is like the dust
Ooh, that hides the glow of a rose
What good am I?
Heaven only knows
Lord, this bitter earth
Yes, can be so cold
Today you're young
Too soon, you're old
But while a voice within me cries
I'm sure someone may answer my call
And this bitter earth
Ooh, may not
Oh, be so bitter after all
This bitter earth
Lord, this bitter earth
What good is love
Mm, that no one shares?
And if my life is like the dust
Ooh, that hides the glow of a rose
What good am I? (What good am I?)
Heaven only knows
Thank you for always sharing the beauty of music, Cremaine.
What an amazingly beautiful rendition! So well done. This was the backdrop to the first time my daughter ever was moved to tears by music (final scene in the movie Togo) and have always cherished it since.
this is what tears would sound like. Beautiful rendition.
I've missed you man thank you for coming back
Absolutely flawless. Thank you for dedicating yourself to perform such moving and wonderful music. I remember this piece from the ending sequence of Arrival, and you perfectly captured every nuance of poignancy. Thank you again
I feel this song can bridge all of humanity together. This song is the one that must be played when the darkness is lifted and a new day has become. This song has helped me on very dark days.
Not even 200k views, you gotta be kidding me.. People are sleeping on such masterpieces
Welcome back! Talented as always.
Ay cello guy I don’t know if you’ve seen Avatar the Last Airbender but there is a song called The Last Agni Kai and I think it’s right up your alley. I can only imagine how beautiful your cover would be! Maybe give it a listen? My favorite of yours is Hans Zimmer’s “time” but this one is amazing by the way!
Haha thank you! He actually already has a cover of time! And if you haven’t heard his cover of interstellar you should check that one out too!
Hans Zimmer Interstellar rendition is one of the best!
Omg yes, please!
Oh yea, he need to make a cover of that one!
There's something about this song that put so much meaning and hope to it, yet there is a part of me that can still feel the pain and joy mixed in the melody. Uncertainty, sadness, and joy, and an urge to accept all of that because it's part of my journey. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece with the world.
Felt my brain tingling when the violin came in. 😔 🤧
Brilliant! The original actually has a mess up at 3:51, yours doesn't, so yours is actually BETTER than the original, so beautiful. Great job.
This is amazing. God bless you. Thanks for this
Jaw Dropped when I saw this.🙂🙏
Sublime! The strain of a cello. 👍🏿👊🏾🎼🎶🖤
Oh, Man! This is seriously one of my favorite songs, and have traditionally played most of my other favorite songs. I was super excited to see this video!
