We were forgotten. Robert and Ned Stark, they were the heroes, the glorious rebels. Marching from battle to battle, liberating towns from the yoke of the Mad King while I held Storm's End with 500 men.

Stannis not being named the new Lord of Storms End was such a kick in teeth From Robert..

I can imagine he didn’t think about the impact too much. Dragon stone is the Targ home and Stannis was heir really so kind of made sense for the start of Robert’s reign. Bad decision though. He should have made Stannis hand too.

Honestly, I'm of the opinion that regardless of what Cersei might think, Robert didn't mean for it to be a sleight. He was just shitty at communicating his intentions. He didn't love Stannis but he needed a firm hand on Dragonstone as it was tougher to manage than the Stormlands, which wouldn't have caused even a child like Renly any issues at maintaining.
If Robert had just given some public acknowledgment of Stannis's achievements in holding down the fort at Storm's End (and later in his brilliant tactics in the Greyjoy Rebellion), I do think so much misery would've been avoided, both personal and for the realm.

Stannis Baratheon and Davos Seaworth are some of my favorite characters in the series. They each have amazing moments in the books and I really enjoy reading about them in the history and the books overall.

I can’t imagine having to eat the the things that the people of Storms end had to survive till Davos got them food..
I think Mace chose to siege because it was easy instead of fighting with the loyalist forces..
    That’s just my opinion tho!

An interesting detail about this event is how differently Stannis and Davos think about how people view their participation. Stannis resents how seemingly nobody remembers or appreciates this big deed he did including Robert and the nobles. Whereas the same happened to Davos who saved the whole garrison but is still ignored by the nobles due to his low birth but it never got to him emotionally

Since the end of Season 6, I've wondered, who knew about the caches of wildfire under King's Landing as it must have been extremely dangerous unchecked. From chapter 37 of ASOS, Jamie knew and didn't tell Robert, his new brother in law. Then I wondered why didn't Varys? He must have known and it would have been the perfect piece of information to ensure his pardon and place on the small council, but he didn't and was saved and kept his position anyway. That got me thinking; was Varys in King's Landing during the sacking? I can't seem to find anyone who confirms this, except for Jamie in that chapter, but he was delirious at the time, and may have been mistaken. If the story about Young Griff is true, then perhaps he had left King's Landing much earlier than explained, to take the infant to Pentos, which is why he wasn't there and didn't know about it, and if that is the case, then the story about Young Griff isn't a lie and he was saved an is the true heir and the TDOD epilogue chapter seems to confirm this.

Storm's End's walls are 80 feet thick on her seaward side and 40 feet thick on her landward side, but that means little if the men holding her are weak. Stannis was not a weak man.
