Although this is intended as a joke back then, it is being considered seriously now, to implement weights of passengers into the check in, because most people really are way too heavy nowdays and added up significantly affects how the plane runs. I think it's a fair point, why weigh just luggage when people weigh heavy as well.
Have you noticed a theme with all these gags? Every social change is first introduced as a joke, to test our reactions, prepare our perceptions, and soften our resistance.
These were the days that you could do a prank without getting arrested. Or you could talk to kids without their mum calling the cops. And people actually had time for other people, instead of the priority of hustle and bustle! Or try to make somebody smile without them geting suspicious and paranoid about you. And these were the days when people actually spoke to other people in a friendly manner, whether stangers or not. These were the days when you could actually trust other people not to take advantage of you, or try to rob you. Ah yes.....The 'good old days!'
Is this satire? I mean, Just for Laughs, was literally made less than 10 years ago and is still popular on UA-cam. Not only that, but read the description. The 2nd guy was literally swearing about being late and just walked off he was so pissed off. If it IS satire. Well done. I bloody hate those comments from people who comment on any old video, "in my day". See an old song video, "Back when they made REAL music!".
In some respects' I believe the Candid Camera Show was the original #1 Pioneer for many other similar shows' . That had a kind of Prankster element within some of its' pre- arranged segments'.

There’s a famous burger joint in Las Vegas in Fremont center and it has a big scale right there in front that advertises to the world your weight. It’s the heart attack grill I believe. Anyways you have the option to weigh yourself before eating and anyone weighing more than 350lbs eats for free lol

They edited out the reveal but probably similar to the last segmant. What I recall, he told me that they needed him to sign a release in order to air it. He refused because he was about to miss his flight, but they told him that they were having the plane wait for him, so he did sign the release. When he got to the plane, he did get on just as they were closing the doors, but they were not waiting and didn't know anything about it. (The producers lied!).
Maybe we should do this for real now..it might be an incentive for people to keep their weight down to avoid embarrassment! I love the idea of being charged either for your weight or your luggage..take your pick!

Candid-camera what a great-show.
Back in the 1930s and 40s, all passengers had to get weighed to make sure the plane wasn't overloaded.
Yep. And the Marine Corps used those standards when I was serving. Now everyone's a fat azz, so they changed the standards.
it would be so funny, imagine, everybody fasting! lol
I never knew that!
I’ve heard nowadays airlines just assume all passengers weigh 180. Weird.
This is so cute. Loved it.

God bless you all!
