Thank you Brett! Green Bay and Baltimore are my super bowl picks so I’m feeling ok 😅. I know Greg Roman gets a lot of slack but Lamar’s athleticism only expands his playbook even worse. As LJ gets gets better, he’ll add more concepts. Good luck AFC!
Watching the blocking on some of these run plays, it's absolutely gorgeous. Especially the one where they pulled both guards like it was an old single-wing play. Perfection.
A lot of this (and the Wildcat from a few years ago) has its basics in single-wing concepts: having the QB/WB as a legit running threat, creating blocking mismatches at the hole, etc. I remember back in the day, Bill Walsh was quoted as saying that if a team suddenly came out running a single-wing, it'd embarrass the league for a while b/c defenses are mostly configured to stop traditional runs & the pass...but that you'd also better have a pretty good #2 QB, b/c your starter will be taking a regular pounding from being used almost as a RB. Obviously this kind of offense would be difficult to run with an older guy like Brady or Rothlesburger, but if you've got a cagey vet like that, the defense will have enough to worry about already.
"their injury report reads like a fucking CVS receipt right now" lmfao those receipts are INSANELY way too long and i always think what a waste of paper it is every time i go to CVS
I'm a Ravens fan, and everything Brett said is of course, correct, but they need to figure out what to do if they fall behind by 17 to the Chiefs. The way they fall behind is the rare occasion when the run game isn't vibing, they don't control clock, the pass rush fatigues and Marcus Peters gets beat a couple times. They need a proper NFL passing game when that happens, and I still haven't seen it because the playbook doesn't include it.
Unfortunately for anyone who roots for Baltimore like myself (they’re in the afc so they don’t interfere with my favorite birds) the ravens offense is a nightmare because the passing game is absolutely atrocious and until this improves we should expect post season disappointments.
@@mactallica9293 Baltimore is one of the few teams I have supreme confidence in their drafting ability so it’s not all doom and gloom but there’s always always to improve your team. This is an important offseason for a bunch of teams, ravens included

Well, if you want to boil it all down, running the football only has a few forms with countless adjustments and variations on some of them: 1. The QB sneak. 2. The draw. 3. Zone running. 4. Power running (which is pretty much down blocks and naturally forming double teams based on alignments that allow for one or more pulling players to go play side. This can result in traps, counters back side, pitches, sweeps and whatever else you want, but they are all down blocks + natural double team blocks and one or more payers pulling. We can take the QB sneak and draw and set them aside and really just break down the running game to power or zone. What the Ravens do is execute well and Roman makes good adjustment calls.
The 2 biggest things that have helped this offense, 1. The benching of Mark Ingram, I love the dude, but he's been having a really bad year, and a lot of us were tired of seeing him get the ball on first down and go for only 1 or 2 yards, EVERY time. 2. The offensive line. Jackson was getting killed from the pocket early on in the season, and after Stanley got hurt, it got worse, but this unit has REALLY turned it around the last few weeks with the addition of Ben Powers and Patrick Mekari into the starting rotation. Right now, Baltimore is on track to get the 5th seed, and face either Tennessee or Indy, and barring any major injuries, they can definitley beat either of those 2 teams.
Is this the 3rd year you've made a video on the ravens offense right before the playoffs? If so there's a curse to be discussed if they lose in there first playoff matchup
@Jonathan Dee The One And Only correct, there is no other Lamar Jackson, none of those guys were unanimous MVPs.. His original point is still a lie and wrong, regardless. I can name several other running quarterbacks too.
In a weird way this reminds me of the mid-2000s Colts offense. Obviously that was way more passing and less pre-snap motion. But they just kept using the same formations and a relatively small number of plays, but those variations were enough that the defense never really knew what was coming.
That music at the beginning was at *perfect* resonance with my swollen sinuses. It was like an underwater migrane. Otherwise -- another terrific video!
You should do a video on the Packers offense. Rodgers said he saw something in film from 2010 and changed his ways this year somehow. He hasn’t disclosed what it was. Can you spot it on film? Also, would be neat breaking down Davonte’s releases and route running.
As a Ravens fan, I appreciate these videos. I swear to you major sports shows like First Take and Undisputed don’t talk 20 minutes about the Ravens ALL SEASON. Maybe about 10 minutes during the season. And not only about the Ravens, but also talking about basically any/every team
They don't provide any analysis whatsoever. Basically all they offer is "Lamar Jackson fast, Lamar run good but Lamar no pass good, Lamar need to pass gooder." Just give me a contract ESPN
We struggled a lot early in the season because Greg Roman seemed to try and turn the team into pass first whilst trying to make Lamar into Tom Brady and he seemed to remember what made us so good when Lamar had to miss a game due to Covid. I just hope that in the playoffs if we go down a TD or two that the game plan doesn't change, we're so much more effective when we keep defenses guessing.
We ran the wing t, triple option offense in high school and seeing the ravens run a very similar offense makes me excited. It's a very difficult offense to stop when executed correctly on a consistent basis
19:02 that was also the game where baltimore lost ronnie stanley and another guard to injury, they were struggling to begin with, but for some inexplicable reason, that same drive when they lost those 2 lineman...they then proceeded to run the ball down that stout defense's throat, i could not understand for the life of me how or why did that work in that specific scenario against such a defense while losing 2 starting lineman (an all-pro included)
First time I watched one of your videos, nicely done. I am looking forward to watching some old ones and catching new ones when they are released. Keep up the good work.

I took part of the winnings I was doing on a rolling accumulator and put it on the Ravens to win the Super bowl on a drunken whim about a month ago. Now I'm thinking this might come in
That power Z guide is ridiculous. The pass plays and bootlegs you can play off that is nice. Imagine motioning over to the strong side then sending him back and running a jet counter to the weak side. They’re literally going to have a numbers advantage every time
That QB counter is so scary, as a LB I’m stepping with the tailback and looking for the flash of the pulling guards as I move. However seeing the pull actually come away from the TB makes you go “oh shit”
The thing with the Ravens is that because they utilise multiple RBs including Jackson with his rushing ability , it means that the Ravens won’t have an 1000 yard rusher. But if you combined every RB and Jackson’s rushing yards it be up there with Henry
Amazing content as usual! 3 years ago i fell in love with the NFL. GMFB got me into the storylines. Brett (and Samuel Gold) got me into the strategy and systems. Pat McAfee got me into the behind the scenes. Thanks for what you do!
Can't wait until this channel become more profitable so brett can hire an assistant to help with his videos so it can come out on time lol. I hope you reach 1 million subs next year Brett. Good luck
You should make a video for a team about what decisions you would make if you were the GM ( such as draft moves, trades or free agent signings and re signing players) in the offseason
I agree Brett. I am a KC fan. Ravens are a contender. The Chiefs are inconsistent. I have been saying that all year. I watch the entire games not just highlight reels. The Chiefs have long droughts offensively. The Chiefs defense IMHO rescues this team regularly. We have one of the most well coached defenses and three of the best defenders in the NFL... Tyrann Mattheiu, Chris Jones, Daniel Sorenson and Frank Clark not to mention some of the most underrated and consistent defenders in the league including Juan Thornhill, Willie Gay, and our Defensive line is stacked
This was one of those videos that reminded me yet again how dumb I am when it comes to football. This is the educational content we love and was done very well!
The ravens build power running into west coast, which is more traditionally zone based. This is purely because of what Lamar brings to the table in Baltimore. It is a true thing of beauty watching two completely different offenses executing the same type of system in a totally opposite way, that being Baltimore and KC. baltimore is a trap/power heavy RPO based west coast where as KC is all about using the pass to set up zone runs and screens while confusing the secondary with all the window dressing to get them out of their disguises. Both are true to west coast philosophies, but executed in completely different ways.
Good vid. My only gripe with Roman is, when front 7s actually defend well he don’t have next level concepts. At best, all he can to do is spread the formation and lets/hopes Lamar work it. Come playoffs need more deliberation than that!
Ravens lose again. Harbs always gets a pass. Nobody can tell me there aren't times when the Ravens need a better game time coach. The stoopid timeouts when we were driving? What does he do that helps us win? He does have many strengths, fire him upstairs. He is a leader of men but Lamar needs more than that right now
Hey Brett, could you please include the recipe for your cocktail ( or whiskey)featured in the opening in the video description. You do a great job showing it off beautifully but after watching the entirety of your wonderful videos, It’s sometimes difficult to remember to go back to the beginning to either write it down or record it somehow, and your choice in whiskey is great, so I’m sure your choice in cocktail is just as great.
Motion into that power Z then motion the WR back across with a jet counter and read the unblocked defender on the backside. Ohh lord Jesus! Then the RB becomes a pitch man for the jet. You could line up in pistol too and just have the RB become the pitch man for either one depending on who keeps it. Then you have the shovel pass based off that with speed option to the backside. So deadly. It’s like urban Meyers spread option with Tebow but based form more 12 personnel
Gro has done a really good job of further innovating the offense in the second half of the season. I think most Ravens fans understand while his levels passing concepts do suck and are vanilla that his run concepts are too valuable for him to go. You can fix the passing concepts by bringing in a better pass game coordinator to help Gro out.
Despite being a Bengals fan and getting mollywhopped by this offense twice a year, this is probably my favorite offense to learn about. It’s just such an interesting use of the run and it’s so actively disrespectful to the defense because it’s literally just, “yeah, you know what i’m gonna do? then stop it”.
I hope we can make it back to the playoffs this year. But, a Week 17 game vs. the fucking Bungles determining whether or not the Ravens will go to the playoffs brings back some atrocious memories. Also I was recently reminded of it because of that stupid rewinder. Fuck you SB Nation, I thought we had something special. Thankfully, Brett doesn't put me through this pain.
Just discovered your channel, Brett. Freaking virtuoso stuff. Subbed.
20:40 I'm going to guess that the flaw is that they are too dependent on Patrick Mahomes, but we'll wait and see.
Or how the chiefs play better away than at home, but yeah we'll see what he has to say.
@@jimjanes7395 Also very possible
@@jimjanes7395 Or they play to the level of their opponent as much as any team in the NFL
@@jimjanes7395 But also, I don't think playing better on the road is something that you can easily fix
Its me, guy who loves the intros. Just here to say: that intro was beautiful. Time to listen to football, thank you goodnight
You should do one on the Seahawks defensive turnaround
Im so pumped, this is a great time to be releasing a lot of videos. Hope this happens every year!!! Really gettin me amped up
Amazing content as usual! 3 years ago i fell in love with the NFL. GMFB got me into the storylines. Brett (and Samuel Gold) got me into the strategy and systems. Pat McAfee got me into the behind the scenes. Thanks for what you do!
Could you do an Update on Seahawks Defense? They got better but you might explain why. Btw great video !
Can't wait until this channel become more profitable so brett can hire an assistant to help with his videos so it can come out on time lol. I hope you reach 1 million subs next year Brett. Good luck
I love seeing how much more comfortable Brett gets in front of the camera in his videos.
You right Cvs mission statement is "destroy the Amazon"
A video on how Haskins managed to flame out so quickly, and what exactly made his play so poor, would be great.
It's so refreshing to watch your content.. I love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR keep it up brett!
I’m glad that Hawthorne has expanded beyond just moist towelettes
Holy shit what a reference lmao
@@Morphjin47 abed would be proud
One of my favorite things about Jackson's running style is how smart he is. He so rarely takes a big hit when he runs
And just like that they scored 3 points
This was one of those videos that reminded me yet again how dumb I am when it comes to football. This is the educational content we love and was done very well!
I love the videos. But I’m now coming more for the intros. Finna start making some of these drinks.
You probably got like 10 videos lined up but one on Brian Schottenheimer and the hawks offense would be amazing to watch!
You’re a legend for those of us who want to learn the Xs & Os but never had the chance.
Thank you, sir!
Another episode tomorrow? This is a great Christmas gift!
Ravens lose again. Harbs always gets a pass. Nobody can tell me there aren't times when the Ravens need a better game time coach. The stoopid timeouts when we were driving? What does he do that helps us win? He does have many strengths, fire him upstairs. He is a leader of men but Lamar needs more than that right now
I’m so happy this comes out. What a late holiday gift!!! Now we just need to avoid the Kollmann Curse
Ayyyy that curse magic about to do wonders on Sunday 👀
Despite being a Bengals fan and getting mollywhopped by this offense twice a year, this is probably my favorite offense to learn about. It’s just such an interesting use of the run and it’s so actively disrespectful to the defense because it’s literally just, “yeah, you know what i’m gonna do? then stop it”.
I’m so happy you upgraded mics.
The old film room intro was so awesome !!
If they could just strengthen up their reviving core to keep the DB’s honest and open up that playbook even more they could be sooooo much better
Nice touch with the sagamore spirit rye for the Baltimore ravens video.....
Thank you for years of genuinely fantastic, in-depth football film studies for nerds like me. Here's to another great one.
