  • In this video we get to unbox the V2 Kraton 8s RTR from Arrma. We go over the workings of the massive machine before taking it out and testing it in the way we like best. AJ walks you through the new 1/5th scale truck and lets you see the testing for yourself as the Kraton 8s is put through it's paces. Running side by side with the Xmaxx from Traxxas, we get to see how they stack up against one another. Come along as we show you what this machine is, and how it stacks up.

    Love to see this! I bought the Kraton 8S EXB roller a few months ago and stuck a Castle XLX2 and 800kV motor in it. Currently running 30/39 gearing with some M2C parts added in. It’s bulletproof and such a beast, and it flies so much better than anything I have.
    It’s night and day compared to my X-MAXX that won’t stay running and has had a massive amount of aftermarket parts added to beef it up. It’s ESC just cut out again today, so come Monday morning I’ll be sending it back to Traxxas for the second time. I have a Hobbywing Max6 for it as well but it’s fan just died so it’s going back to Hobbywing at the same time. Such as shame.

      It is a shame, and yet, kind of par for the course for the Xmaxx, or so I understand. I guess part of it is how we handle these machines. Huge jumps with large amounts of weight will always cause problems. That's the price we pay for the thrill of it all. But I think each rig has its ups and downs. The Xmaxx is the original King Basher, but there are new kids on the block, namely Arrma and Losi, who are overtaking that aging monster. I can't wait to see where the new tech takes us. Keep on bashing my friend. AJ

    Back in love with Outcast 8S, after a few upgrades, RPM arms, M2C racing steering rack and a must a is a Max 5 esc, I was a true Arrma fan boy but? to many diff issues for me to sell most of my Arrma fleet from 11 and now down to 4 Arrma trucks left, along with the price of RTR trucks going up I have now gone back to buying quality race kite's, TEKNO ,Losi .Kyosho.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому

      It's a shame you feel that way. I get it though, the cost is going up and reliability issues can bum a guy out, but I think the quality is also getting better as time goes on. RnD takes time, and Arrma, along with Losi, seems to be listening to us. Each time we begin modding these machines, they seem to integrate a lot of those changes in the next generation of their trucks and cars. It's just the way I see it. However, I don't have any Tekno rigs, but I do know the others pretty well. Tell me, what is it you like about Tekno, and which one is your favorite? Also, what is the parts availability like? Thanks for the input. AJ

      Both are tough cars. As far as the Kraton goes, I would recommend the EXB version, it has upgrades that are supposed to make it more durable than the stock version. The Losi has more length to it than the Kraton. Both are good rigs. However, upgrades will be necessary for both. The Losi has weak chassis braces and the Kraton stock version would benefit from a better chassis. Run time is less for 1/5th scale. Bottom line, the one you dig is the one you should get. • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому

      Sorry for the delay in responding. The Kraton 8s is wider by a couple of inches, but similar in length. The Xmaxx is taller and feels more like a monster truck, while the Kraton is lower to the ground and has that high performance feel to it. Both are awesome. Both are fast. But straight out of the box with absolutely no mods, the Kraton is faster. The plastic chassis of the Xmaxx is durable, but suffers from high impacts - like skate park jumping. The Kraton suffers from this too, but is pretty durable overall. We did wind up switching to the Kraton 8s EXB chassis for higher durability. Overall, I would say they both have their place within the hobby. The Kraton is 1/5th scale while the Xmaxx is classified as 1/6th scale. The trick is, go get a close look at both trucks if you can, and then pick the one that calls to you. Either way, you can't go wrong. I hope this helps. AJ

      How recently did you buy the X-MAXX? Give it a bit of time, it’ll start falling apart. Mine has had about $2,000 of upgrades just to keep it running. That doesn’t even include ESC and motor which are still stock.
      My Kraton 8S EXB? It’s had some upgrades because I wanted to, but I’ve only broken one shock shaft and one arm due to bad landings. And it’s running a Castle XLX2 and 800kV motor with 30/39 gearing so it endures much more power, torque, and bashing.

      I got my Xmaxx last December and it has been really good so far. Granted, I did have to change the arms to RPM, along with the hub carriers and captured hinge pins, but everything else seems to be holding up just fine. I think quality control at Traxxas may have some bearing on this issue, as some people lose servos, others lose the ESC, and yet others lose the diffs in one way or another. At least, Arrma is adding diff shims with some of their 6s kits now to combat the slight differences in their diff cases. Well, I finally had my first run in the backyard with the Kraton 8s, at 50% throttle . I noticed later that the front passenger wheel was loose. One of the pillow ball retainers backed out. I lost it somewhere in the yard, and the other is very loose . Could you please make a video on replacing and upgrading those retainers? I looked on arrma's site , I couldn't find that part listed. And really found nothing addressing those retainers backing out as an issue

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому +1

      I will definitely look into it. Here is the part number for the retainers. ARA330582. The o ring is, ARA716031. That procedure is on page 25 in your manual. I will build a video addressing this issue. Thank you😎👍

    That's awesome, great video. Did you up the punch settings for this video at all?? I was thinking I made a mistake ordering mine, but after this review I'm more confident, I made the right decision. 18min on 4s 5000mah 60c batteries is great. I got my V2 5th scale Kraton 8S on the way, with a set of , SMC True Spec DV Extreme 4s 6900mah 135C batteries, & a set of HRB 4S 6000mah 50C Batteries, to start with. Is there any other upgrades you recommend, after owning it for awhile now?

    • @AJJAMStudios

      No we did not change any settings in the electronics: all stock. Check out the chassis swap video, that should help. Thanks for the comment and the question. 😎👍

      Upon review of that section, you may be right. However, it looks minor when I flipped the car over to inspect it. Still, the damage was there and I missed it. Thanks for catching that. AJ

    Outcast 8s or kraton 8s is there much of a difference ?

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому +1

      One significant difference is the wheelbase. The Kraton is longer and more stable and better suited for speed and performance, but it jumps and handles well too. The outcast is a short wheelbase rig and suited for stunting. Wheelies and backflips but less stability than it’s brother. 😎👍

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  Рік тому

      Wow, tough question. The Kraton 8s feels more like a performance rig to me. The XRT is also awesome, but feels a bit more like an Xmaxx mashed to the ground. Don't get me wrong, I love them both. Given the choice between one or the other...the Kraton is still number one here at the channel. Thanks for asking. P.S. we may have a video like that coming up. 😎👍

  • @WCFGreywolf

    Will the kraton 8s run off in a random direction when the batteries get low ? I'm sure alot has changed in 30 years , That's an issue I had with my rc back then

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому +1

      That’s a fair question. The answer is no it will not. Power loss or radio signal loss will cause the vehicle to stop. No more runaway rc’s. The gas rc’s might but it is rare because of the cut off units they have now. The Kraton does not come in a gas version. Thanks for asking 😎👍

      Since I do not have one, it's not on the list. Reminder, I only rate cars I own. That being said, the Outcast is a blast to stunt around with, but is too hard to enjoy doing my style of bashing. Backflips are cool, but performance is really where my heart is. Thanks for asking. AJ
