After watching the video, I hunted out The Mystery of the Hidden Hand by Phyllis Whitney from my shelves. I have been meaning to read it because I enjoyed The Mystery of the Green Cat. It will be a good summer read. The first line says, "It was a Saturday morning in early June on the Greek Island of Rhodes." 😄
I love Sleeping Murder! One of my favorite Agatha Christie's. The Lucy Worsley is good too. I also want to read A Kind of Paradise. I like your variety.
So exciting to have a wedding coming up!! I heard your sweet shout out to your new DIL in one of your last videos. But yes, we still need to read, no matter how busy!! I'm aiming for a slower paced reading summer, mostly mood reading😊
Congratulations on your son’s upcoming wedding. Your summer plans sound great. I’m not participating in too many readathon except JA July! Can’t wait for that.
Tonight I made a chart of all the book clubs (three book clubs a month, one group selects a specific book, the other two select a theme) and the readathons (only two, with their prompts) that I want to juggle over the summer. Tomorrow I'm going to gather up books that I WANT to try to read this summer and try to plug them into all the themes and prompts. A book I read a few years ago that would fit some of your prompts and work for June on the Range is Pony by R. J. Palacio. It's a middle grade and I really loved it.
Hi Mitzi, I've read The Dry. I think you'll be fine. I hope you have a fantastic summer of reading. I just picked up a copy of Smoky the Cow Horse last week at a library book store, but I think I will wait until I finish reading all of the winners from the 1930s before I read it. I can read Thimble Summer this year for a good seasonal read. For June on the Range I've already listened to two from the First Mountain Man series by William Johnstone and I'm hooked!! I need to put them down and listen to my next book club book but I don't want to.😅 I'm going to look up the Willie Nelson audiobooks though. They sound fun!
I just finished Smoky the Cowhorse a few minutes ago!! And I loved Thimble Summer. I read it last summer and it was the perfect time to read it, too. Thanks for letting me know about the Dry. I'm going to try and get that one read soon then. It's been on my shelf for a very long time!!
Name of the rose is definitely one of the highlights for my year of reading so far. Kinda jealous of the people who will be reading it for the first time! :) enjoy your picks!
What a great list of possibilities you have for the summer! How exciting to have a wedding coming up. I definitely need to keep reading, especially during stressful or busy times. It relaxes and grounds me. I'm intrigued by the Louis L'Amour books read by Willy Nelson. I would love to start the Sackett series and read them in order. I'll have to look for the audio version. Regarding The Dry, I also had heard good things about it and I read a lot of mystery so I decided to give it a try earlier this year. I ended up DNFing it. There was too much language in it for me. In my notes I commented that one page was covered with Jesus and Jesus Christ as curse words. It was just too much for me.
The Caravaners' publication date falls within Tiffany's dates for modern classic, I think. The Worley book could probably work for a buzzy book or friend recommendation - I'm sure lots have told you you should read it. And if you've owned The Dry for over 5 years, that could work. But I've never even heard of it, so I can't recommend it. You have a big stack of books and a great variety, and I don't think I've read one of them!
For future suggestions you ought to look into the "Little Britches" series. The author & his family moved from NH to a ranch in Colorado in early settlement days. It's a terrific series based on his life experiences. My granddaughter & I enjoyed our co-read of the series.
A Summer Reading Plan is a great idea! Thanks to you, Mitzi, I am now participating in the Big Book Challenge. 😂 I need to see this Summer Bingo Board. 👀 A bunch of the books I am reading in June qualify for this bingo board based on the prompts you have shared. Oooh, Lucy Worsley wrote the Jane Austen nonfiction. I loved her book about Agatha Christie. I’m excited to hear about your August readathon. 😊
New subscriber here 👋 If you love Lucy Worsley, I'd recommend her Agatha Christie biography, which was released last year. I went to see her speak at an event shortly after the book was published and she was fantastic! With love from the UK 💙
Great list! There are several of the older ones that are on my list too! (The Caravaners, A Month in the Country & The Lark). Thanks for the reminder. Also noticed your Noel Streatfield one. Have you read any of her books that she wrote as Susan Scarlett? I’ve only read Babbacombe so far but really enjoyed it. It’s a nice light read as a palette cleanser between some of your more challenging reads.
I am happy that you plan to read A Kind of Paradise. I be really surprised if you don't love that one! I read The Dry and I liked it. I don't remember anything too graphic is the story.
What a list! I too have That book from Lisa Wingate waiting for me on my shelf. Ahhh! So many books, so little time. Currently reading A CUP OF DUST by Susie Finkbeiner. She is a new favorite author- historic fiction. This is about a little girl growing up during the dust bowl in Oklahoma. Thanks again for posting. I look forward to your videos- especially in the mornings! 😊
What a great list Mitzi! Sleeping Murder is one of my favorite Miss Marple books (though weirdly I did like the adaptation slightly more). I'm not sure if this will effect when you decide to read it but although it was the last published Miss Marple, Agatha Christie actually wrote it in the 40s and stuck it in a drawer so Miss Marple actually feels younger in it than she does in the ones Agatha Christie wrote later (though I can't say that for all of them because I still have a few Miss Marple books left to read including Nemesis which I think is the last one she wrote/published in her lifetime). I am excited to hear what you think of the Beatrix Potter cozy mystery because I have actually been very curious about that series as well as the Jane Austen cozy mystery series but I've been skeptical so hesitant to try them but I'm excited to hear what you think. If you do decide to read the Dry would you be interested in buddy reading it? I've had it on my shelf a few years now and keep meaning to pick it up because several different friends have told me how great it is and now there is even a film adaptation out. Sorry for the novel length response lol but this was a wonderful video as usual and I am looking forward to hearing what you think of all of these books :D.
I didn't know that about Agatha Christie writing Sleeping Murder earlier in her career! That's interesting! I was actually worried about it because I've heard her work suffered closer to the end, so your thoughts now give it promise, and I enjoyed Nemesis! As for Dry. Yes! Just know I'll DNF it if it gets too graphic or something! 😂
@@mitzireadsandwrites I didn't know either but then I read it somewhere a few years ago and then saw a video from Lil from Lil's Vintage World where she mentioned it in one of her Agatha Christie videos (she has so much awesome Christie knowledge!). I THINK Agatha Christie did the same with Curtain. Lol I'm not one for graphic descriptions in mysteries either which is why I usually avoid thrillers so I definitely understand haha. For this series though, I've heard more that it is a more intense mystery rather than a thriller mystery but I could be wrong, hopefully it won't be too graphic :).
Wow! What a great reading list! I just added more books to my tbr! I think you should start with the Francine Rivers book. It looks really interesting, and I would love to hear your thoughts on it.😀
I have read The Lady's Mine. Different than her other books, but the further away from it I got, the more I liked it anyway. I have that Lisa Wingate book to read...someday. 😂 I have tried 2 or 3 Jane Harper books, because so many like her. I dnf'd them all. Not because of violence, though. I was bored, didn't like the characters and didn't have any interest in the story at all 50-100 pages in. I didn't try that one, though. Maybe that one will be good. 😊
What a great summer reading you have planned! I read The Lark for Miranda Mills’ comfort book club and it is fabulous! I loved that book so much. Sleeping Murder is a favorite of mine from Agatha Christie. I’d like to read one western for Michael’s challenge and I’m still trying to finish up Audrey’s booktrovert spring bingo and of course there’s Jane Austen July. I also try to read at least one Steinbeck during the summer . There are so many fantastic readathons and challenges I can’t participate in all of them, even though I want to. 💕🌻🌞💕
Ooh! Beatrix Potter cozy mysteries 😍😍.

Thanks! I do hope to fill my summer with lots of genres and themes.
I would start with one of your cowboy ones. Speaking of cowboys, The Cowboys is one of my favorite John Wayne movies.

I agree. Reading is necessary to help me relax and be calm.
Name of the rose is definitely one of the highlights for my year of reading so far. Kinda jealous of the people who will be reading it for the first time! :) enjoy your picks!
You have some great books to read for summer. I just started The Growing Summer and I am really enjoying it! Happy Reading!

Love all your summer choices! I am excited about the Summer Book Bingo too☀️
A Kind of Paradise is such a good, heartwarming story!
Yay! It sounded like a great one.

No I haven't, but I want to! Maybe after reading The Growing Summer I'll grab one. They sound like my kind of read.
I like the phrase pallate cleanser 💕
Both Amy Rebecca Tan books are great. They are companion novels but could be read in any order.
Oh, I didn't know they were companion novels! That's great! Thanks!
Hopalong Cassidy! A favorite show of my youth.
I've never seen it, but I'm going to try to find an episode to watch after reading the book.
I am happy that you plan to read A Kind of Paradise. I be really surprised if you don't love that one!
