I loved the portion of the video that you called out what you were gonna do; this type of training method to us viewers is really nice; please incorporate this into more of these for us!!! Much appreciated, thanks JB!
Ah-ha! One of my training partners has been suggesting I slice dink too much. Watching your video *Ding!* made me realize I've been slicing my dinks DTL too much. I suspect THATs what my training partner has meant. My margin for error on DTL slice dinks is simply too fine.... Very instructive, Jordan. Thanks! - Vic
Excellent video! Now, I think it's worth doing another episode on how to accomplish all this on the backhand side. Btw, is it even possible to do topspin on the backhand side?
I saw a video with ALW showing a two handed backhand topspin dink. She says she uses it for both offensive and defensive dinks. ua-cam.com/video/C8jAp2gygX0/v-deo.htmlsi=ymJnPY5OEtYV-C_g
Always learn something watching your videos. I have been working on the front and backhand rolls at the net. great job. I have just changed paddles to the Halo Max. think I like it.
Now tell us, as the defender, what spin to use in response to seeing what spin YOU have used. I see what you’re doing, now what should I do since the ball comes off my paddle differently depending on YOUR spin. Simple but not easy😁
It is a great video with excellent coverage on paddle mechanics, footwork and decision making for forehand dinks. I will also ask that you make the same video on these types of shots, paddle mechanics and footwork for backhand dinks. 2handed and 1handed. Por favor. This would be immensely helpful!
Best video I’ve seen on dinks! Would the choice of topspin vs under spin also depend on the height of the ball, that is under spin for low bounce vs topspin for higher bounce? I find my topspin drops tend to go into the net if I'm doing them on a low bounce
Great video. However I did notice that the no spin drinks section you and your partner were bending at the elbow rather than lofting from the shoulder.
Topspin dinks: I know you’re not doing wrist lag but do you lower your wrist at all before contact and then get it straight as you make contact for more spin? Or do you just keep wrist completely straight for the sake of consistency and the top spin is generated entirely from the shoulder lift?
The only problem I have hitting topspin dinks in the grip. I use eastern but if I'm attacked it's hard to defend or get into firefight without my continental.
I didn't see Lift Dinks. I realized today that I was "hitting" my dinks. Be they topspin or slice or sidespin. I wasn't extending the time the ball was on the paddle. I was looking for videos that talks about that...because as a beginner I haven't found anyone explaining that. I watched pros and noticed that their play is "slower" in a sense because they hold the ball on the paddle longer (lifting the ball vs. hitting the ball). Am I making sense?
Thanks! @@BrionesPickleball I asked the same question - looking for videos on Reddit and its been a lively discussion. There have been a few suggestions, but I haven't looked at them yet. I think a video on this would help beginners immensely as I've been working hard for 6 months before I noticed the pros (JW Johnson, Ben Johns, etc) hitting the dinks differently. Their dinks even sound different.
Thanks, but let me challenge you to see future . Why don’t you try real underspin, fast cut causing ball to jump sideways but still flying low just over the net. Can you do that?
now at the end she was always on the defensive side (At least it looked like it) how can she change defensive into offensive and make you go into the defensive side?
How do YOU hit your dinks?
Top spin using my two handed backhand, and slice on my forehand. I need to develop my forehand topspin dink. This was a great clip. Thank you.
By chance 😆
😎😎
Topspin on cross court dinks. Otherwise, flat dinks with as much pressure as possible.
👍🏻

Glad you enjoyed it!
Backspin backhand cross from the odd side is a favorite shot of mine. Mastering that brought my game to a new level.
Awesome!
Same here, except mine is the even side. (Lefty 🙂)
What i absolutely love is the level of detail you go in to. Technique, tactics, rationale all explained....perfect!
😎
Thanks Jordan and Katrina. Another great and helpful teach. So fun to do these practices and drill games to practice the touches you described
Thanks !
Great visual- can you explain the arm/forearm/wrist movements for topspin vs the low spin shots. Especially the top spin- Thank you🌼
In a future video!
Great clip on dinks. My first ever to see 3 dink varieties. Thx for a lesson.
Glad you enjoyed!
Love your explanation of each dink, it's really helpful. Thanks Jordan again !
Glad it was helpful!
It's like you're reading my mind man. Been working on this like crazy. Super helpful video as always!
Glad to help!

You’re the best! Love your videos. So much useful information.
Thanks so much!
Of course I know all this. But, very good to see you hit and practice multiple shots time and time again. Always the best...
Thanks !
Good Stuff!!! Thanks for the instructions/tips...

Thanks!
I just started working on topspin. Pretty decent with backspin dinks. Thanks for these nuggets!
Awesome!
Another great video! Thank you very much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Could you please show how to hit the backhand dink using those three types of dinking shots next time?
I’ll have to make another video!
Great. Not just HOW but WHY and WHEN! Would be interested in knowing best response to slice and spin.
Ok
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved this. How to you do this on the left side? Or with your backhand?
I’ll have to make a video 😊
Hey Jordan love the video and quick question for you it’s correct that when dinking it’s always with a open paddle face right ?
It depends on what kind of dink. Not always
@@BrionesPickleball okay gotcha
Great video! Are you using the continental grip for all of your dinks?
Topspin dinks, eastern grip.
Other dinks, continental

Yes!
can you do a video on how to hit back links with topspin/ slice. I currently only have flat disks in my game but am unsure how to respond to spin
👍🏻
What about spin on backhand dinks?
Same idea, I’ll have to make a video soon
Cliff Where did you get that 3.5 at best Tshirt? Thx
?
Do you change your grip with any one of these types of dinks?
Slightly yes. Sorry, I’ll have to make another video on this.
Great video. However I did notice that the no spin drinks section you and your partner were bending at the elbow rather than lofting from the shoulder.

Topspin dinks:
I know you’re not doing wrist lag but do you lower your wrist at all before contact and then get it straight as you make contact for more spin?
Or do you just keep wrist completely straight for the sake of consistency and the top spin is generated entirely from the shoulder lift?
For consistency, you’ll utilize the shoulder and a little bit of forearm pronation. The key is swing speed control
The only problem I have hitting topspin dinks in the grip. I use eastern but if I'm attacked it's hard to defend or get into firefight without my continental.
Yes, I switch back and forth. If I feel like I’m going to get sped up on, I will go to continental
Hey Jordan, what’s the main difference between a topspin dink and a speed up? Swing speed? Would love to know
Swing speed, and technique may be a little bit different depending on how you hit it. We’ve done several videos of both
What model Selkirk is your go to??
SLK Halo 16 max
Super helpful as always, Briones. Hey, are you back to using the Selkirk Labs 003 and do you put any lead tape on it and where?
Close to the throat area. Actually….. there’s a new paddle coming to town…. Very soon :)
@@BrionesPickleball are you talking about the new gearbox paddle that will premiere on Monday 10/16/23?
@@BrionesPickleball or are you referring to the Selkirk Luxx Control Air?
Both
Do you change your grip when drinking? If so how do you change within a rally?
I personally do. I do it quickly, lol.
When drinking I don't. Continental grip on beer glass handle 😆

Yes, start with slowing down your swing speed. That will help a ton!

With all topspin dinks are you using your forearm?
Yes, along with lifting with the shoulder.
Why do you avoid using your wrist in your dinks? Have you done any videos explaining the reasoning behind this before?
Usually, that results into mistakes and also inconsistency.
Thanks, but let me challenge you to see future . Why don’t you try real underspin, fast cut causing ball to jump sideways but still flying low just over the net. Can you do that?
Of course.
But at the end of the day it’s about consistency. Even Ben John’s doesn’t extremely cut his dinks.
