    Sent my SX-70 to Retrospekt for repair and had it converted it to shoot 600 film. Could not be happier with this camera. The work is grade A quality. A great company to work with. So good that i purchased a second camera on eBay and going to send this one to them for repair and keep it to shoot regular polaroid film. I first tried to send the camera to Brooklyn but the repair person was stuck in France because of the Covid with no time table of when he would return to the US. But I can highly recommend Retrospekt....

    My first couple packs of Impossible Project SX-70 film were horribly overexposed and I always thought it was because of the film. Ever since I cleaned the light sensor, it's like a new camera! The film improvements since the Impossible Project days also doesn't hurt.

    To remove the oxidation I've done the exact same procedure, but I've used vinegar instead of isopropyl alcohol, because it reacts with the oxidation and it removes it completely.

    • @steveburns9722
      @steveburns9722 2 роки тому

      The use of a dilute acid such as vinegar, which you’ve observed, suggests a likely carbonate-based corrosion ( which might make sense given the age of the cameras.). Good to know. I just used IPA (isopropyl 91%) and it helped; a bit of careful scraping was needed. Thanks for the tip. I might get adventurous and attempt to clean both sides of the filter.

      @@steveburns9722 hi Steve. To be completely honest I got a nice and shiny looking sensor, but my pictures still look a bit overexposed to me... I still need to adjust the exposure compensation. Only with the "darkest" setting I get satisfactory results. Especially in a sunny day... 🤔

    • @steveburns9722

      @@gianlusc Hi Gianluca--I've cleaned only the front part of the sensor following the directions in the video, with isopropyl alcohol and some gentle scraping. In the video, it's mentioned there might be some oxidation on the back side, as well. That's more difficult, as I think you would have to disassemble much of the shutter assembly...and I'm not comfortable with that. I haven't tested the 'cleaned' exposure yet; I'm waiting on film. IF I get bold enough to really clean both sides of the glass in front of the photocell I'll let you know how it comes out!--Steve

      @steveburns9722 2 роки тому

      @@gianlusc Hi Gianluca--I tried your vinegar idea on the photocell and it works really, really well. I understand that this small light-blue UV/IR cutoff filter is epoxied in front of the photocell. If that's the case, it might be protected from this corrosion--it might be primarily on the outside. Re: overexposure--the cameras were designed for an ISO 100-125 film, but the new Polaroid film is faster at ISO 160. Polaroid recommends turning the exposure dial 1 to 1.5 'notches' of the three on each side of the exposure compensation wheel toward darken to account for this slightly faster film. Hope this helps--Steve

      I had the same problem recently - it turns out my shutter blades were stuck. To fix this, you need to open the shutter housing again, remove the focus wheel and try to wiggle the plunger on the solenoid underneath it - the coil of wire that is attached to the shutter blades. Just gently push the plunger down towards the coil and see if that frees it up. Either that, or your battery contacts could be dirty, but I doubt that since it seems like you used the camera recently.

When I put a film cassette in it and close the door it shoots a film out but then the shutter button is not working and the mirror is open so I can not see through the viewfinder. i recently bought an sx 70 autofocus camera. the Autofocus does not work but thats not really my problem. My problem is that the shutter stays open when i take a picture. It never closes. so the pictures dont really turn out that good because the mirror is literally the only thing that is kinda responsible for the exposure if you know what i mean.

    My SX-70 developed an issue finally just this year where the photo often gets stuck a bit while ejecting. If I try to yank out the half ejected photo, it smooshes around the chemicals all unevenly and messes up the photo. I think it just needs a good solid cleaning. Probably some chemicals from a leaky photo gunked up that little slot.
