Hey, love your channel and instruction. Any ideas where I might search for these types of “old” copper smithing tools?

Thank you for watching! You can start on Ebay - that's where everyone seems to find them. If there wasn't a pandemic, there would normally be a tinsmith convergence in June where there is a tool swap as well. Or you could join the tinsmith and coppersmith facebook groups and ask for anyone selling.

Thanks for the video, I'm wondering how thick of copper the circle cutter can cut? Can it cut >3mm thick pieces? How were old pieces 4mm+ made?

The circle cutter can't go much more than 16oz. Less than 1mm. The old pieces were cut with big shears, called bench shears, or grinding, etc.

@@housecopper Thanks for your reply. I have a really nice thick vintage copper saucepan with a cast iron handle that I tried to restore some. After using 0000 steel wool on the handle, I'm wondering if i went too far. The handle went from oxidized to a nice black with bumpy texture (I think I should've stopped here) to being now smooth and sort of blotchy in color. Will the texturedness ever come back with time? And will the handle ever darken again to a uniform color? I didn't damage my copper pan did I?? thank you

@@camcoopa5307 The texture may come back with time and use, though it sounds like you really just got down to the bare old iron vs oxidation (the bumpy) part, unless you sanded down the iron to super smooth, in which case maybe it won't! Sorry to not be firm - it's super hard to diagnose blindly. :) But yes, with time the handle WILL darken all over completely with use and time uniformly. :) It's not ruined. :)

I need to purchase one of these. Do you know of one for sale?

I don't - sorry. I inherited this one from my uncle, who found it on the east coast. Keep watching ebay...or hunt antique stores on the eastern seaboard...

Where can i get one, im in the UK?

To be totally honest, I don't know if they have them over in the UK. I was just over in London a few weeks ago...and short of maybe an estate sale, I don't know. Most of these pieces are antiques and they were all manufactured in the USA in the 1800s. I don't know how many made it overseas. I think you can find similar, newer models by checking out what Pexto has. I think they ship internationally.
