Hi guys! This is going to be a long comment, but please read till the end because I think it is important for you to know (no hate). I may get hate for this, but so be it, I'm just being honest... So the mention of military service IS a sensitive subject among ARMY. However, I did not see anything wrong with your video - you did not criticise the culture, or the policies that SK has when it comes to enlistment (I have an older Korean ARMY friend who says that it is wrong for outsiders to criticise). From what I gathered you were making comparisons (you were not toxic in your video). Jin was asked a question regarding enlistment in an interview and it surrounded exemption - that is, are they more valuable to Korean culture/economy with their talent and achievements to be exempt? Sometimes Korean translations to English are not completely accurate, so when Jin said "this is a sensitive topic" he meant "exemption"- should he and the rest of BTS be exempt, given their achievements? The reason he said it was sensitive is because, as you know all able males are required to enlist. BTS are humble men and see themselves like any other normal Korean males who have military obligations - they don't want special treatment. All BTS have said they would be honoured to serve for their country when they are called upon, but these mistranslations from Korean to English can cause havoc among international ARMY. I agree that, unless you are apart of that culture, you have no say in whether they should be exempt or not, whether they should serve or not. Because they are global now, international (US) media think they have a right to report on it- they do this for clickbait, it's nothing to do with them. This annoys ARMY. I also know that some K-ARMY (Korean ARMY) are happy for them to be exempt. But again they are Korean, so they have more say than we do. I am not Korean, but have been learning Korean for almost a year an understand SOME translations. I also asked my close Korean friend about this to confirm translations. I am international ARMY and have no say in the matter, but I support the 7 kings and ARMY no matter what. Just wanted to give my objective opinion on your video. ARMY tend to automatically go into defence mode when it comes to BTS, because of the hardships they have endured, so it is like a reflex action. That said, I hope this does not put you off doing BTS reactions! You have been more respectful towards them than some reactors I have seen! I think you should react to "Ugh" by the rapline - but afterwards, make sure to react to the explanation to "Ugh" by DKDKTV. I think the track is very fitting with given your circumstance. With that said, the only criticism I have is that maybe you could have reacted to his solo work for his birthday. Please do react to his newest project "Abyss", and, "epiphany" "Moon", "Awake" to truly appreciate his vocal talent. Also, react to the SeokJin documentary. Let me know if you want me to find you the links. I won't be unsubscribing. Sorry for the long comment. Take care x
We appreciate you and read every word. Yes we had no ill intent making the video at all as you can see. A lot of people are commenting before even watching the video and for the ones that watched have a different opinion than they did before watching. We can go on and on about who shouldn’t say what when it comes to any topic. Like you said we never mentioned if they should be exempt or not. That’s not our call at all. We can relate to hardships as well because as a black woman and man in America it honestly doesn’t get any harder than that. Thank you for taking the time out giving us your insight 🥰🥰

Thank you for your input! We appreciate you. BTS army can definitely be detrimental to the group by being harsh and speaking negative to potential fans. The correlation between the video and Jin was that he’s the oldest and being that the bill was passed right before his birthday .. if it hadn’t things would have been a whole lot different so it’s a lot to celebrate for BTS and Army. I’m pretty sure a lot of the comments intent was to be harsh which is fine everyone is entitled to their own opinion as well as us. 💕
Wow, a lot of the comments surprised me. I knew it was a sensitive subject since idols tend to avoid getting political and based on interviews it's always understood but not addressed directly. But there's been so many headlines lately about the adjustment to the age requirement... I'm not surprised reactors to BTS would do a video on it. Of course, I respect the opinion of South Korean citizens and if they have expressed a distaste for foreigners even discussing the matter (positive, negative, or neutral) then that's fine by me and I'll zip my mouth. I wouldn't expect reactors new to BTS to know this though. Research on the subject would bring up facts about the law and how it impacts idols, but I think Smileys Sip would be harder pressed to find anything telling them "don't react to this because it will make people mad". The video gets a thumbs up from me. I appreciate their interest in BTS beyond the music and in Korean culture. I've been ARMY since 2017 and didn't realize the topic was such a faux pas, so maybe a Korean ARMY or ARMY more versed in Korean culture could provide some tips on what to avoid and help us ignorant fans out? Kind of like: #1, don't discuss compulsory military service if it's not your country. #2, only react to American Hustle Life if you're doing a 'try not to cringe challenge'. #3, pretend Expensive Girl didn't happen.
Sadly whilst members of idol groups are serving their military enlistment they are not allowed to partake in any activities with the group. If any member leaves for the mandatory enlistment, they will be on leave until the end of their hiatus! so no song promotions. no interviews, no MV's. no new songs by that member, or with the group, and obviously no performing. It's still a debate if the members will go one by one and promote BTS whilst the others are in the military, or if they will go together. where there will be no BTS for nearly 2 years, but they will be back to being a full group quicker. also this is a sensitive topic not only for ARMY, but all fandoms with their idols, and most Korean men! I know you are receiving backlash for this video, but do not worry because you didn't say anything openly offensive about the way our government works. I know you guys were only curious! please do not be discouraged by some ARMY! and please keep doing BTS reactions because I enjoy them! 💜
Honestly I don’t think it should be but in some instances you can be called upon to serve without willingly doing so. I think everyone should have a choice to serve or not. But that’s just my opinion I serve with a lot of people that think it should be mandatory
@@patriciawhelan9950 If American did make it mandatory I definitely think they would have to cut the time down because a lot of people would be upset and that could lead to issues within the military
The reason it is mandatory for Koreans is because they are technically in a state of war with North Korea, with whom they share a border, and their birth rates have dropped so much that even with mandatory service, in time, if rates continue as they do, they won't have enough men to keep their military the necessary size. I'm pretty sure if those issues didn't exist, they wouldn't have mandatory service any more than we do.
Ppl in the comments: chill out, they can speak about the subject even If they're not koreans bcuz they did their research (about the time koreans have to stay in the military and the age they have to enter). That stuff just causes controversy which is what they don't want.
All I know from Koreans that I speak with is that they are offended when non-Koreans criticise their government/policies/ culture.
I think it is okay for subscribers to offer constructive criticism to content creators for better viewing, but telling them what they should/shouldn't post is not it. In my opinion, if one doesn't like what they're watching, one can move on to the next UA-camr. I like these guys and they obviously like and respect S.K (and BTS), having either visited or simply learning the culture and enjoying the amazing food.
They haven't been disrespectful, they're always full of energy, and are engaging. Thank you for taking the time to write this comment 😊.
@@NetLoona please answer these questions in response to your: “if you’re not korean you have zero say in this subject.”
so people in other countries are not allowed to discuss what happens in other countries?!? so we should not watch or discuss foreign policy or the news?!? each country is fine no matter what they do? what about the holocaust? slavery? and so on. you are essentially saying that even saying ambassadors, the un, etc, or even bts should not care what happens in other countries? bts helps with unicef which is a part of the un. how do you think the un works? people discuss issues in other countries. just because a topic is sensitive does not mean it is off limits or should be.
@@SmileysSip I love your reply. Please don't stop your reactions. I enjoy them. 💜

to those claiming they have no right to discuss this because they are not korean or it is to sensitive of a topic.... so people in other countries are not allowed to discuss what happens in other countries?!? so we should not watch or discuss foreign policy or the news?!? each country is fine no matter what they do? what about the holocaust? slavery? and so on. you are essentially saying that even saying ambassadors, the un, etc, or even bts should not care what happens in other countries? bts helps with unicef which is a part of the un. how do you think the un works? people discuss issues in other countries. just because a topic is sensitive does not mean it is off limits or should be. they are just discussing it. people are allowed to discuss things like the laws, differences, etc. this is how you learn. i dont know where you are from, but in the usa, you regularly discuss items of other countries, their laws, history etc. people learn and discuss about the holocaust, slavery, apartheid, and other “sensitive” topics. you should discuss sensitive topics especially in history so past mistakes do not occur. you learn about changes in laws in your country and other countries to discuss how it will affect yourself or other countries or even history. the law changes in korea can affect other parts of the world. for instance, the un just did a major change about marijuana. the house in the usa just changed the law also. cause and effect. you can learn pros and cons, from history, past mistakes, etc. this is also how laws can helped be shaped. you can learn cultural differences etc. open discussion should always be welcomed so people can learn from others. expand your views and try to keep an open mind instead of being so judgmental...
I Think You Guys Should Have Just Reacted To Something Jin Related For His Birthday Like His Solo Songs Or Performances Or His Funny Moments I Know I A Lot Of People Are Bashing You Guys And I Don't Think They Meant To Come Off And Straight Bashing You Guys I Just Wanted To Let You Guys Know Jin Said This Himself That It Was A Sensitive Topic And Armys Are Just Respecting His Wishes For Us Not To Talk About It💯I Think You Had Good Intentions It Just Didn't Seem That Way To Army A Lot Of Army Are Very Over Protective Of Bts And Its Not Just Young Army Its Adult Army Too Because I Seen A Lot Of Comments Of People Blaming It On Young Army There Are Adult Army Who Do The Same Things So Sorry That The Comments Aren't So Nice And I Want To Say Sorry In Behalf Of The Mean Comments But Some Of The Comments Are Trying To Tell You Why The Video Was A Bad Idea We Wasnt Trying To Make Yall Feel Like Yall Didn't Know What You Were Talking About We Just Want To Let You Know Of Why We Prefer Not To Talk About This Topic At All I Know It Seems Fun To Compare Korean Military With American Military But You Didn't Have To Bring Jin Name Into It If It Was Just A Compare And Contrast Video On The Korean And American Military Then It Would Probably Be Different Its Just The Fact That Yall Put Bts And Jin Name In It When They Specifically Told Us As Armys That They Don't Like This Topic But I Hope You Guys Still React To Them Have A Good Day❤️🖤
Thank you for your input!
I know you are taking heat in the comments but it did bring up a good question.., Do you think America should have mandatory service?
And should mandatory service include both men and women?
If America did could they then decrease the length down to two years? Also, would that decrease the drug addiction in this country?
Now what they CAN NOT do is criticize and complain about things, but they didn't do these things, so chill out.
And one thing: you're so hypocritical because I AM SURE that you talked about this subject and even gave your opinion to your friends who listen to BTS, so why can't they talk about this subject if yourself talked about this subject with your army friends?!! Stop complaining here in the comments 👍
obs: Sorry about my english :(
It’s alright I totally understand
I agree, they never said that what south Korea is doing is wrong or that BTS shouldn't have to go. Nothing like that. It was a simple discussion. Yes people getting weird in the comments.

You guys need to calm down, Smileys Sip are still humans and have feelings and BTS does too, but the other people looking at the premiere or thumbnail easily judged it, it is a sensitive topic yes, but they have never said anything bad nor went too sensitive about the topic; Will is just explaining and talking about the military life/experience, so I request to other people who misjudged Smileys Sip to stop and watch the video first before going in the comments and attacking. I understand that its a very sensitive topic to talk about but chile okay?! Us ARMY's need to respect each others boundaries and if you can't do that then I suggest you to leave and watch other's video...Plus they are new to our fandom and In anyway we still love BTS no matter what and respect them with all our heart 💜❤

Not to be rude, but I notice your thumbnail is too bad, a lot off yall thumbnails are just fake and trying to attract attention with it. don't fake things please. I don't know how to place you. half or my feelings tells me you're just using BTS, I don't feel the real interest .. You just got out of the corner regarding bts and immediately start looking for certain topics and responding to what's far away. why don't you respond to some music and get to know them before going deeper? Just step by step.
Honestly if we were faking we would only react to their music like most of the other reaction channels because that’s what usually trends so we are far from fake.
@@SmileysSip Jin in a military suit is going too far for me, and why do you include the text "Will jin join the military on his birthday"? please, who gave you that information that it should be on his birthday? Your thumbnails are fake, you realize that right? Stop the fake crying/shocked and other weird moves that you don't even do in the video. As I said before, you recently started reacting to BTS, you don't even know their names and who is who individually, so to talk about topics and comments on certain content that can only really be understood if you know the basics, their music and style and everything. Keep it real, and know them first if yall really interested
@@ARMY-yq3rl okay it can be too far for you but who are you??? You clearly don’t know what thumbnails are for ... you can’t tell us who we know or how we can go about learning more .. you’re failing to realize this is our page we go about things how we want ... you can learn a lot from BTS through other than their music you should know that but if anything you sound like you’re giving the fake love if all you rather do is listen to their music instead of knowing them on a deeper level. So be real with yourself.
@@SmileysSip Sorry? Who I am? I'm an Army as you can read, i was with my faves from the start. 7 years already for information. I've seen everything from them including their music. That's why I'm telling you that you better start with the basics to get to know them. As an ARMY I see and know that you skipped a lot of basics. If you can't respond in an adult way, or take my advice. Then that's your problem.
@@ARMY-yq3rl first off you can’t say respond in an adult way when you say “not to be rude” then say we are fake and try to bash us. We don’t tolerate disrespect so once again who are you? You can get off our page with the disrespect. Simple.

We are seeing a lot of comments before this video premiered stating not to post because it's insensitive. Will serves in the United States military and he is giving his insight from a service member perspective. Nothing we say during this video is or meant to be insensitive. This is moreso an educational video. This is a big topic here in America and with Korea being an ally of America the legislation can shape laws for the rest of the world which is steps in the right direction! You will see in this video the correlation between the two branches of military and how the BTS military plan is a HUGE BLESSING not only for BTS but for BTS Army! 💜
