Lets be clear - Franklin lost his belt to the greatest mixed martial artist of that era...the era that ended up spanning 10 years! Rich is a legend no matter what.

In fairness, calling Silva the greatest mma fighter of his era is anything but clear. I think most would have a hard time not including him in the top 5 of the era, but a much harder time calling him number one.

@@trollking99 They haven't turned a profit for years, investors are realizing that ONE FC is a money pit and are pulling the plug. Ever wondered why they aren't putting on nearly as many events as they did a few years ago? Or why they aren't showcasing MMA fights anymore? This is why.
Unless by some miracle they can turn a profit, ONE FC is delaying the inevitable by cutting costs.

Sad? He’s the literal VP of a company that was valued in the 10 figures. He started out as a STEM teacher at a rival highschool of mine. I rolled at the same gym he trained and eventually Gurgel did award him his black belt. But whereas most champions not graduated their instructor promotes them ahead of big fights or just after, Rich was in that btch for nearly an additional decade POST champion reign without being promoted. Consummate professional. Really nice dude. Whatever he does, the way he carries himself it’ll never be “sad” I can guarantee you that.

Man, this was a blast from the past. Rich Franklin is an excellent example of how to live life positively. He has transitioned at the right timing each and every step of the way. Rich knew it was time to step away from Fighting for a living and had started businesses prior to retiring from UFC. Rich currently is VP at ONE apparently, just learned that here, again a step up in his career/life he lives.
My personal feel on the subject is, Rich Franklin is one of the last pure MMA fighters in the US, and treated it as a job and none of the attitude/fluff bs. I get it, Rampage Jackson ripping a door off its hinges, after he punched thru it, is entertaining.

Rich Franklin has never been anything other than a warrior, both in and out of the octagon. I remember him stepping in to a ufc event, and helping to sale tickets and pay-per-views to those hard-core mma fans at gyms and training facilities around the Globe. Affection was a huge brand in the mma community just like Tapout but both brands were band from the ufc by Dana White who only wanted Reebok who payed 70 million to the ufc to be worn in the octagon. They were spelling fighters' names wrong ,and making poor quality clothing for a good while which is why I stopped wearing their stuff , well to be completely honest it was also because of the way the ufc fighters were being treated. Nick and Nate Diaz wouldn't hold back on the way that Dana White and sponsors were screwing over the fighters, and this caused gyms around the world to evaluate the situation. My partners and I at the time dropped everything to do with Reebok.
Rich Franklin's name has never been anything but Royalty in the mma community. I can't imagine that will ever be any other way, and the ufc more than likely feels the same way but you never know with those people.

Rich is awesome, I never rooted against him.
Growing up him and Nick proved you’re more than what anyone thought. The difference being, Rich did things with class.
    AMAZING FIGHTER.
