Like several folks here commenting, Squale has become my favorite brand. I find them beautiful, well-finished, and the brand has an interesting heritage and history. This Artico is maybe the most beautiful of their current offerings. Love it. Wish I wasn't broke from my earlier Squale purchase made this year!
Ended up getting a 1521 with the Blue dial and blasted case, and the GMT 1545 black/blue…. And then I broke the bank anyways and got myself an Artico… too beautiful to pass up!
Im quite the opposite, ive always wanted one and never gotten around to purchasing one. Funny how everyone has different tastes in divers. Also a good thing becuase it gives us variety. Otherwise we'd all be wearing the same watch lol 😆
I just pulled the trigger on the black dial version and can't wait for it to get here. I have always been interested in the Squale Sub 39, but couldn't get past the 22 mm lug width and blue dial. When I found out about the Corso Italiano, I had to have it. It's the most expensive watch that I own, but I feel that it is worth it and I will always keep it in my collection.
Your videos are getting better all the time. Some of the best B Roll on YT. Period. Keep it up! Love the content. Squale is a killer value. Love my GMT from Marc at Long Island.
My 1521 is the first of my collection that I can wear 24hrs a day and forget it's there. It's also the most expensive watch I own. Love the crystal on these, gorgeous.
I don't understand how Squale is so polarizing, their products are for the most part pretty eye-catching 😍. Nice review. Dave your macro shots are out of control man! Dazzling. Merry Christmas!
Many UA-cam watch snob channels crap on Squale, most of whom have never even seen one in person. I have the iconic blue 1521 and it is by far the best dive watch I own. It looks gorgeous, is built like a tank (I don't worry about nicks or scratches when I wear it), and it is super comfortable. Great brand and great company. I think they really fill the pre-luxury dive market perfectly.
@@villagranvicent you won't get them too far below retail, unless you check out Gnomon watches or Long Island Watch. Marc at Long Island has them on sale every Back Friday for like $150 off.
My favourite dive watch is the 1521. I own the bead blasted version in black. I absolutely love it. Very understated and comfortable to wear. It offers fantastic value for money. It also houses a very good work horse movement.
Great review! Great watch! Totally agree, the 20mm lug width, better lume and no date makes this a tier above the stock Sub-39. Wish I could get one...
I love the vintage aesthetic of these but I recently picked up Glycine Combat Sub from Costco for $299. Swiss made diver at that price, it’s hard to compete. These Squales are good looking though…
Thanks Dave, re-watching this review a couple of years later! I like some of Squale's other models but these 2 watches are absolutely gorgeous, wish I could get my hands on a black one.
I like the black-dial version featured…I really like the low-light contrast of a black dial. I’m partial to bracelets, however; wonder if they offer one? Squale makes a nice watch! My Squale 1545 GMT is beautiful & well-made for $850. At 40mm, it fits my 6 1/4” wrist great. The Sellita SW330 in it is running -3 sec/day!
I usually try to spend $500 or less on a watch. Bought an Orange Watch Co diver's watch a few months ago. Am I ever glad I did. The most impressive finish, build quality, and accuracy I have encountered since I passed my Rolex Sea Dweller on to my god-son. Stunning quality. I have not seen ANY watch that approaches it at the price. ($1700). I am "over the moon" about this watch.
You are man Dave, that when you mention a brand name it burns on my brain and sells me watches. The two that I've acted on are Spinnaker (now three would you believe and wanting a Bradner) and a Yema Navygraf. Squale, a name that your introduced me to, is also stuck in my head like an itch. They are beautiful watches and this is another great review. Having recently bought an Alpinist, these affordable "grails" are fast becoming more desirable than any homage design and definitely require deferred gratification for the sake of a better and more beautiful watch. Thank you. 👍🙏🏻
Great review! I'm really interested in the Artico. Do you think that they'll release more offerings of the Sub-39 with a 20-mm lug width? I much prefer that size
Being into budget watches myself, I was curious what luxury watch you would consider as your grail watch. My grail watch was the Breitling Chronomat 44 GMT with blue dial in titanium. This is no longer available so I'm trying to get an Omega Seamaster 300 Chrono
Squale offers very much for the price. I own two limited editions and they have both been excellent investments but; as they wear so well, I will not be selling them. Thanks for the video, Dave.
Lovely watch, but the bezel insert should be sapphire, and the case needs some brushing. As nice as it is, I can't help feeling it is a little expensive for what is on offer.
This is a well made video. I like the watch, and I have been looking at the Sinn 104. To me this watch face is a little busy, though the texture and size are wonderful. I don’t really care for the shark logo.
Great review, very nice designs, just not quite convinced of the busy logoing on the dial. And the price.... oh my.... Seiko SRPG03J1, SRPG05J1, SRPG07J1 and SRPG09J1 and certainly the Nodus Sector Dive might be more affordable alternatives.
Very nice, especially the white dial. I really like the clean design without a date - double branding comes with the territory, like it or not. Too small for me though. Ah well.
Squale makes a lot of collaborations, and limited editions, a bit confusing. So I went for the classic 1521 COSC, full lume, applied indices, one logo, hope it’s worth it🤞
Blancpain had a 50 fathoms in all-white (incl. bezel) out about twelve years of so. The black bezel, white dial combo is what I love in the Sinn 104 St Sa I W. Ah yes, as this is an affordable watches channel, how about the Baltic Aquascape White for about half the price?
Love that coin edge bezel. Terrific review! I couldn't get past the double logo on the Squale dial, so recently I went with the better value (IMHO) Steinhart Ocean 39 diver with a 2824-2 (or SW200), ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal. 1 sec/day on winder, but actual wear is around 3 secs/day. Love this watch and love the price ($485 USD + shipping from Munich).
Actually the white dial says Corso Italiano... the "artico" would be like a nickname I guess... Love your channel, very professional presentation!! Hope to see it grows 👍🏼👏🏼
Terrific and good value for money; especially with some unique details. I know that watch boxes aren't everything but that small presentation box was great. I wish more brands would do that instead of those ridiculous, large, and overstated watch coffins.
Good look and review on these. been seeing them on other UA-camr watch reviews. Overall looks very well done. Btw, did you ever tell us which one you picked to be yours? My guess might be the black. I think what it includes seems nicer such as the horween leather strap and the nicer wooden box packaging.
I wasn't more than mildly interested at first, but the last two months wore me down. I now own an Artico and can back up the dress dive watch claim. I will say that the 3920 is best served by traditional straps to take advantage of its thin profile.
Looks like a good way to get into a Blanc Pain 50 Fathoms (with historical cred) without having to spend many more thousands of dollars. Good vid. Keep at it!
I've owned the Squale 2002 for a number of years and have been impressed with both the quality of the finishing, interesting push-down release bezel and the accuracy of the movement (which is outstanding).
I love so much about Squale.. .. But branding and text are not one of them. It did put me off a bit. Really don't like mineral crystal.... Acrylic would be a big improvement... If not very well done AR coated sapphire This is totally the sweet spot for size. I have no idea why so many are still just cranking out 42mm watches with long lug to lug and make end links.... It loses all is elegance unless you have 8" wrists
I am guessing you like the white one. I'm not sure if it would be possible to put the date window on the side near the crown, but it seems like it could satisfy everyone.
FWIW I think the correct pronunciation is ‘Squawl’ the French word for shark but given that this model is the ‘Corso Italiano’ then perhaps the Italian wording flair is warranted.
My most expensive watch is an Orion Hellcat. I love it. But I love my Vostok Amphibian, that was 1/10 the price, just as much. They all bring something unique.
That's inaccurate. Captain cook is homaging Blancpain, and squale had directly worked with Blancpain selling them their cases, then you could say rado homaged squale cases
Fantastic review as usual. Well shot, scripted, and edited. If you were wearing a blazer and not a plaid shirt, I would think this was a commercial made for TV. It is a great looking watch when worn and from a medium distance. However, the space gets pretty crowded at $1,500 with LOTS of competition. The double logo does not grab me, but once you showed some historical examples, I get it. I guess I'm the only person alive now who dislikes those handmade pilot leather straps with the perpendicular contrast stitching at the lugs. I would not pay $5 for one myself much less $109. While I haven't done it in awhile, I was instructed to never dive near sharks with a high polish watch. Most dive watches are not likely to see an ocean. The hands are nice, the second hand is particularly well designed. Once you get my age, if the date is not huge just leave it off because I can't read it without reading glasses. While not all 39mm watches feel the same, those size cases make me think it is not a man's watch. The 1mm wider bezel likely saves this from the too small look. Thanks for posting this great video!
This looks like a watch I would consider purchasing to replace my current dive watch. As I am a diver and the date plays no role in bottom time application. It's all about accuracy and bezel function along with legibility.
Guys do you think it's worth it to buy Seiko 4004s in acceptable condition? Don't know how accurate they are, all i know is that they were super expensive back in the day
These look the business like the white best I really fancy a sinn 104 as my next watch it’s going up a level for me so got to sell half my collection to get it but this could sway me instead!
Nice watch, but at $1500 you’re into Longines HydroConquest/Mido Ocean Star/ Rado Captain Cook territory. I know which one I would rather have, and it doesn’t start with Sq.
Squale was originally a case maker, don't own any of their watches, but may in the future. They do sell less expensive watches. Well under $1k.. Usually I like the blue, but the white one looks far better.
Like the case style, not the small size or K1 crystal. Too expensive for me. I would rather have 3 other divers with NH or Miyota movements. I also like lume on bezel!
Interestingly I also prefer a date and actually like where the date was placed on the Popeye watch Shane recently reviewed. A date could actually work on the dial here in place of one of the two Squale logos.
I couldn't agree more. I'm in the same boat thanks to my new Squale. Which of their watches did you pick up?
Ended up getting a 1521 with the Blue dial and blasted case, and the GMT 1545 black/blue…. And then I broke the bank anyways and got myself an Artico… too beautiful to pass up!
In general I'm not a big Squale fan. That said, I think this is the most aesthetically pleasing watch I've seen from them.
Agreed, I've never really been tempted to get a squale, always thought there were better looking watches at the prices but these are really nice.
Im quite the opposite, ive always wanted one and never gotten around to purchasing one. Funny how everyone has different tastes in divers. Also a good thing becuase it gives us variety. Otherwise we'd all be wearing the same watch lol 😆
