I had a 550 ...it was a great bike but I liked my 500 better even though the 550 had a lot of advantages.....tt500 was by far the coolest enduro ever made inmo
Had one 82 model 550 xt for 13 years. I did everything with it. Living in Athens for 5 months and 7on an island it was perfect. Back in 95 we were called kamikaze on the island because we had the biggest bikes.
Ah this bike brings back fond memories! Owned an identical one, took me to Cape York Australia and handled deep river crossings really well. Eventually sold and bought a 1990 XT 600. Honestly, I preferred the 550! A little lower seating position, smoother quester engine. Never had problems with either though. Good review!
I had 2 of these in the late 90's & early 2000's. Absolutely loved them! I regret treating them both very badly & with neglect back then because i was young & only wanted to race & wheelie everywhere i went. Was forced to sell when i left the country, but oh boy the nostalga & fond memories i had on this bike! I loved it so much that some days id take unesessarily long routes home from work, just to enjoy the ride for a bit longer

Technical more advanced as the 500 but less beautiful. XT550 was sold here only from 81 till 83, replaced by the 600 but the 500 was sold from 76 till 89 !!!
Do you know if it's possible to buy the rear rack somewhere? Been looking all over for a price-friendly option for rack and luggage for my XT550! Great review!

Very nice but somehow people prefer the XT and TT500. It's more classic and more valuable.

I have had 2 xt500, i now have the 550, i prefer the 550 due to suspension mainly.
Both are great bikes for the day.
I had a lovely black one on Galway. Wasn’t running well. Nothing that couldn’t have been fixed. Always regret getting rid of it☹️

The Tacho is stuck at 2800 RMP (1:58, 4:54) LoL. I was actually trying to figure out what the idle rev's are.

Looks like a '82 Model. The '83 Model had a reinforced Frame around the Oil Tank. I'm missing that...
