Golden horse all the way, but Klon's are generally used to add to you're already gainy sound. It just takes it over the top. Wish you would have got some gain on your amp and then added the pedal.
6:15 There's a serious hum in that pedal.... 🤔 Never heard that with mine. I own the two Moskeys and the Soul Food. Right now the Golden Horse is on my board, as a trebleboost for when I'm using humbucker guitars. Little gain, no volume boost and treble on say 1 o'clock. works great. The Silver Horse died way too soon, something burned inside. I might get me another one to use on a second board. I love the fact that they are so small. BTW, doing a shoot out and setting all the knobs on each pedal the same way isn't the right way imho. Try to find the best sound in every pedal and then compare. Like setting all the tonecontrols at 12 doesn't mean the brighter soundig pedal is actually brighter. Pots aren't all the same, even if they have the same value. And also use the volumepot on the guitar, each pedal can respond very different to that!
Hey Mr. Marty I have the silver cheapo fake klon, it was 2 dollars more. So I got the silver cheapo. They all have different volumes on the same setting so maybe they will all sound similar at the same volume and a bit of tweaking because while there’s a big volume difference there is a huge tone difference between these pedals
The golden had a fuller sound , more low depth , the soul food had the hotter highs , you can turn them down , tone knob, more to work with ! how i see hear it , the Archer highs sounded like the golden horse but darker version of soul food . the silver , the one i have has the 2 clipping modes , diod's or led's for a louder less compressed boosting of amps for added versatility, personally i prefer the EHX ! i'm more into that early Marshall overdrive tone that i think it gets closer to.
I played a Gold and Silver Klon my friend owns three early models. I put them through the paces and in the end It was nothing special, sure it sounded clean and had good drive but not for hype in the price.
Good Klon clones have a higher voltage inside the pedal than those cheap ones. Usually 18VDC just like the original. No mention of the awesome buffer in the Soul Food either! I run a Tumnus deluxe as a drive and a Soul Food as a clean boost. It’s a great, cheap pedal. Great video.
