  • I am thinking of cycling from Land's End to John o'Groats in September 2023. I have been looking a different routes and I found a few. I have been good advice by a friend, Paul Greenhalgh, who cycled LEJOG in May 2022. I have looked at five routes: (1) the Sustrans route, mainly on cycling paths and longer than the other routes (2) the Cicerone routes - there are two - one through Edinburgh and one through Glasgow; (3) Paul's route, which veered off through Liverpool; (4) Gina Harris (aged 82), who cycled it in 2022, with her route going around Bristol; (5) Andy's route on www.cyclelejog... which goes through Leeds then Edinburgh .
I was able to get the GPX files for one of the Cicerone routes, for Gina's route, and Andy also provides his GPX files. Sustrans also provides the GPX files but I needed to pay so I have not used these GPX files. I found that I could combine GPX files using a text editor.
I created my own route following Paul's advice, using the Outdooractive route creation system. This tool provides an excellent 3D simulation system so I thought that I would built a 3D simulation of the whole of LEJOG. I soon found a problem - a route can have a maximum of 150km, Thus, I have split the route into 18 sections - likely daily routes with an average of 55 miles a day.
Thanks go to Paul; to Gina who created a blog and provided her GPX files - le-jog.co.uk
; to Cicerone and Sustrans who both have excellent books about the routes; to Andy whose website is very informative.
I might just watch this UA-cam many times and decide not to go, but hopefully it will given me and others the inspiration to cycle LEJOG.

I did the ride in 2021 with my little terrier, Lil’, riding in the front basket of our Brompton bike. Slightly different route (the Sustrans 1200 mile) but a lot of this route was part of the Sustrans route. Was very interesting to get the flyover! Thanks for sharing this 👍🏻🤗

I enjoyed making it and now I have cycled LEJOG with a slightly different route - very enjoyable! See facebook.com/GASBAGSMike
