Mark Twain was an atheist....wondering if the death of Jennie contributed to that. Nice to see some blue sky and sunshine. Haven't seen that much this year due to wildfires. I enjoyed the video!

I love your videos from my old stomping grounds. Northern Nevada high desert is magical. The sagebrush whispers when the wind goes through. There are rivers, lakes and best of all, natural hot springs. Floating the Truckee on tubes are some of my favorite adventures too. I miss it horribly. I don't know what I was thinking when I left. I'm in a low desert now. The Valley of The Sun, Phoenix. smh WHAT was I thinking?

By all accounts I've read, Sam absolutely adored his niece Jennie, and her death hurt him so that he left Nevada only 3 months after she died. In his great book ROUGHING IT (1871) centered on his adventures around the wild frontier of Nevada Territory and Virginia City, Sam tells the tale of a hilarious duel as the reason for his departure from the rambunctious Virginia City and Nevada Territory he loved so much. Although the "duel" fits the wild frontier image Sam paints so well in ROUGHING IT, it has always rang a bit hollow to me as THE reason Sam left Nevada. Jennie resonates as THE reason Sam left; her fresh constant memory would have been too painful for him to deal with every day.

After the discovery of the Comstock Lode Nevada was separated from Utah Territory and made a separate territory, 1861-64. In 1864 the State of Nevada was related. The silver and gold of Nevada and California helped the Union pay for the civil war.

It is so cool to see another Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) house. I have been to his Connecticut house a few times. The Connecticut house has a room with a pool table and fancy chairs, they said it was his thinking room. He would play pool to help himself think. Sadly, both his Connecticut house and this house had tragedy. His daughter died when he lived in the Connecticut house. It was one of the reasons Sam moved out.

Cool post. Mr. "Kit" Carson was/is one of the most important historical figures of westward-expanding United States. He is often brushed over as someone with a famous/recognizable name, but not many people know what he did get become famous. He was a true frontier bad-ass, survivalist, and explorer that sadly took his own life as he entered into his later years. A truly great American figure.
