I googled Hatsune Miku. For 2 months UA-cam kept showing me advertisements for leeks. Or green onions as we call them here. True story. It would be an advertisement for a grocery store and the picture would always be a green onion.
It's happened with a few/most of them I believe! Meiko has a bottle of alcohol, Kaito has ice cream, Luka has her tuna fish(and her tako luka), Rin has a steamroller - which was a joke and is now official, Len has a banana! They were a meme for so long that it became official
Correction/explanation for 1:50: While YAMAHA are indeed the ones behind the Vocaloid software itself, they don’t make most of the Vocaloids to use in it themselves (except from a few like VY1 and VY2). The majority of voicebanks are developed by third-parties instead. LOLA and LEON were created by the English company Zero-G, while MEIKO and KAITO were created by the Japanese company Crypton Future Media. This is why the former were only made for singing in English, and the latter for Japanese. When Vocaloid 2 dropped, the first voicebanks released were indeed Sweet Ann by Swedish company PowerFX (hence the name pun on ”Sweden” lol) and Hatsune Miku by Crypton, the same people behind MEIKO and KAITO (which is why you tend to see those three alongside the other ones Crypton developed later on, Rin, Len and Luka) In short, Sweet Ann and Miku are made by different companies from different countries. In the early days of Vocaloid, the western Vocaloids didn’t always have avatars (or had more of a western artstyle like Sweet Ann) and were targeted to professional musicians, while Crypton started the ”moe” anime avatar style trend with Miku, who was marketed towards more of a amateur, otaku crowd. I hope this makes sense! Lastly, about 17:40: the Momo version of Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya! is a cover by Momomomo-P, who actually happens to be Momo’s official illustrator! You can find the original cover on Nico under the url sm13455867 😊
I also want to point out the reason English vocaloids might've struggled is because it's harder to reproduce digitally. If you look up a chart of all Japanese hiragana characters, you basically have a list of every possible syllable that could ever exist in the language. All you had to do is record someone saying those characters at various pitches and you could recreate a singing voice easily. Compare that to English where even without considering different accents, pronunciation is WAY less consistent and phonemes blend together all the time. We also don't have an easy phonetic writing system like romaji, so even figuring out how producers would input specific phonemes, syllables, and/or words would be more difficult. TLDR: The Vocaloid technology just worked way better with the Japanese language.

the thing i love about miku is, she dosen't have a particular lore or even design trait that is "canon". what i'm saying is, her design on the cover box of her voicebank was only there to get more sales, but the only thing that is really important with her is her voice. so if you want to change her design or personallity trait, you can. it's not just an head canon, bc there is no real canon to her
Just an FYI, the song "Why Do I" by Set It Off is a horrible example of not citing the producer who created the song. The song is literally a cover of the same titled song by the band Set It Off. Their name is literally in the description of the video, and posted by Set It Off's youtube account. Often in more mainstream pop artists, they may not put every single producer credit on the youtube video (e.g Brittney spears, there is no mention of the producer's name in the description of the music video of Toxic) description either. There could be a greater discussion about crediting producers, but this is not the classic example of "ignore the producer, say that Hatsune Miku made the song" you were looking for.

i rememeber being likr 5 and just seeing a blue haired girl everywhere so j found out her name was hatsune miku and im 12 now and chose to listen to miku and its very good
Wouldn't go as far as say she became the face of internet but sure as hell became an iconic character and defined a era of the internet. Man i'm going to miss all the MMD shitposting that was going on back in the day too.
13:59 Calcium/Deino3330 mentioned letsgooo, his music videos back in the day were something else, and the music itself were nothing but bangers. Felt like i got taken back to 2007-2009's watching this video. Great documentary, subscribed.
She’s definitely an icon in the anime community for our time. Kinda like Naruto, Dbz and sailor moon. She’s one of the legendary faces to the community
One of my favorite pieces of fanloid media is a video by Tac MMD called 【MMD】初音ミクに会いに行くよ(LET'S GO SEE MIKU). It's one of the coolest Miku vids I've seen on UA-cam. Nearly every version of Miku from 2014 makes an appearance. There's also a sequel, but that was 6 years ago. I'm just praying for a part 3
I remember the mikudayo, it made me laugh for half an hour at least 😭😭😭
Thanks for the info!
Thanks, now i know a Little more about here :D
I remember skipping a vacation just to watch Miku on Letterman when she appeared on the late show.
i never knew vocaloids with this cool oml i am obsessed
Great video! I'm a big Miku fan and I learned a lot from this video
For the MikuMikuDance section, I love the "non-dancing/skits vids" 👀👌 Might check more of them out after this vid 😏
important history, this silly little blue haired character playing such a vital role in the history of mankind.
As someone whos loved vocaloid since like 2018 this is super cool :]

[intro]
(Hoo-hee-hoo)
(Hoo-hee-hoo)
(Hoo-hee-hoo)
(Hoo-hee-hoo)
[Verse 1]
Miku, Miku, you can call me Miku
Blue hair, blue tie, hiding in your Wi-Fi
Open secrets, anyone can find me
Hear your music running through my mind
[Chorus]
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
[Refrain]
I'm on top of the world because of you
All I wanted to do is follow you
I'll keep singing along to all of you
I'll keep singing along
[Chorus]
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
[Verse 2]
Miku, Miku, what's it like to be you?
20/20, looking in the rear view
Play me, break me, make me feel like Superman
You can do anything you want
[Instrumental Break]
[Refrain]
I'm on top of the world because of you
All I wanted to do is follow you
I'll keep singing along to all of you
I'll keep singing along
I'm on top of the world because of you
I do nothing that they could never do
I'll keep playing along with all of you
I'll keep playing along
[Chorus]
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
I'm thinking Miku, Miku, hoo-hee-hoo
[Instrumental Break]
[Outro]
Where were we walking together?
I will see you in the end
I'll take you where you've never been
And bring you back again
Listen to me with your eyes
I'm watching you from in the sky
If you forget I'll fade away
I'm asking you to let me stay
So bathe me in your magic light
And keep it on in darkest night
I need you here to keep me strong
To live my life and sing along
I'm waiting with you wide awake
Like your expensive poison snake
You found me here inside a dream
Walk through the fire straight to me
Miku Miku oo wee oo
Jokes aside, she's the embodiment of the concept of an early virtual moe avatar/idol. Not the first, but certainly one of the most remarkable. She basically was a stepping stone towards the Vtuber trend we have currently.
dude this video has opened my horizons as a fan and ima make it my GOAL to repopularise vocaloid thank you, kyowomii...
Dam thats crazy
