More Ecologically Friendly Road Design

Road construction and repairs are carried out using materials with a significant ecological footprint, including bituminous materials. Professor Alan Carter of the Construction Engineering Department is seeking to reduce the ecological footprint of road construction and rehabilitation work by integrating recycled materials, such as polymers and wood by-products. In speaking with Gabriel Roberge, a student in the Automated Manufacturing Engineering program, Professor Carter describes the steps that will eventually lead to road repair and maintenance being carried out from the perspective of a circular economy.
