Are you willing to sell me a copy if the service manual of the MX-100. Is it addressing this problem, since it is the most common problem with this unit?
YAY!!! You made a video of it! Awesome! Fortunately mine works great, I cleaned all the sensors and boiled the belt as it was having a hard time ejecting. It's crazy for how much people are selling them on ebay these days, fortunately I got mine for relatively cheap!
Had my MX100 years ago. Bought as-is. And of course it didn't work right out of the box. Fortunately it's just belt -turn-goo and nothing else. One belt change later and it's back to life. However its conversion quality is just so-so. When converting from NTSC to PAL the black level is wayyyyyyy off - black becomes grey and no adjustments to "darken" it. Now I mainly use it as standard multi-system vcr and that's it. So don't worry, you didn't miss anything worth fixing this time.😉
If you want a true double scan 525/625 Multi-Standard deck (native PAL and native NTSC, no conversion) for personal use keep an eye on the JVC HR-S7600AM, It is the only S-VHS deck ever made in history with line TBC/DNR, Yes there are tons of PAL/NTSC decks but either have no TBC or no S-VHS. Condition don't matter to you since you can fix it, It shares some parts with other machines in the HR-S#### series.
I'm not really interested in multi system these days as I see perhaps 1 tape a year to convert if that, so no money invested in a dead format. 30 years ago yes, but not today as that is a dead business.
Hi Capturing Memories, I have used several different VCRs for the playback of my collection of PAL and NTSC cassettes when doing the digital capture and archiving of the videos. The VCR I used more often was a JVC HR-S7600AM, which as you say is quite peculiar because it is a true multi-standard S-VHS design. I have used this VCR for 20 years, and I may be wrong, but I think I know the type well (by the way I also serviced it a couple of years ago because the mode switch was dead). In my humble opinion, although it is an interesting design, the picture quality is not top-end. Color fidelity in both PAL and NTSC is not up to expectations. I have also always noticed a scarce ability to correctly track VHS tapes recorded with other VCRs. Finally, the TBC present in this deck is disappointing as sometimes it actually produces a less stable picture. I also noticed similar issues in a HR-S7600EU that I own as well, so this is not only a problem of one specific 7600AM: I have the impression this is the general level of performance of the "high-end" JVC series sold around 2000~2001. Only the digital 3D NR was an impressively effective feature at the time. The dynamic drum system is a fancy feature but pretty much redundant for everyday use. If you have a chance, try to compare the image quality with Panasonic or Toshiba S-VHS VCRs produced around 2000.
@@theprofessional8268 These machines are 30 years old, you don’t expect it to perform as it did 3 decades ago unless you are up for a full recap and re calibration of everything which requires special tools and alignment tapes that are no longer reliable anyway.
You are right, that i.r led did look rather dim, and that chip looked like it had been got at. Maybe it drives the led and lots of deck functions. As you sort of said, it's worth keeping a bit longer. I would rig up a constant current generator and check the leds you have floating around for brightness, a comparison of sorts. I like that psu, lots of ventilation and easy to access.
I got one of these and it was not accepting tapes, took it apart and the belt had melted, I replaced it and it plays great, nice picture but upon ejecting sometimes the door won't fully open, tape gets stuck, don't think it's a lube issue. I was tempted to clean the mode switch but it's a bit different than most I've seen and I can't find any good service manuals. I want to get it fully working because the VFD is very nice as is the picture.
@@12voltvids I hate working on stuff that's been messed with, you don't know what the original problem might have been before they put more problems in, the one I got looks untouched, I may have to get a better belt for it, it may be slipping on eject.
Great video! Thanks! Perhaps the previous techniscian replaced the LED but with the wrong wavelength? That's the only thing I can think of... Very entertaining video though!
I just remembered, mine had an issue where it sometimes wouldn't see the end of the tape when rewinding, the motor kept trying to rewind and it would shutoff, during that stage it would also do weird things like turning on and off on its own, removed the mechanism cleaned with IPA the sensors, LED and the plastic light guides under the chassis and on top and it seems to have fixed it, you could give that a try.
I am your fun and I really appreciate the way you fix things and give extra information. I have a request, are you going to sell this VCR? Because I need the display board of this machine. If you sell me I would appreciate your kindness. If you decided to sell it, I will buy it through eBay. Thank you
VERY IMPORTANT. I discovered that the light sensors get confused with ambient lights when the cover is removed, then, you must test the equipment in the dark. It happens to me when I changed the rubber belt and try the see the mechanism movements. TURN THE LIGHTS OFF !!!.
Wow.! This was the most helpful comment. After turning the lights off, the machine I have kept power on and tried to feed the tape. Try to play it for 8 seconds then stopped because the right capstan wasn't spinning, then turned off. Next is cleaning, mode switch and belt check. But at least it stayed powered on.
Hi, I just DM you via your youtube email because I have the same equipment and it does the same thing...shuts off right after it is powered up. I have not taken this VCR to a repair shop, because I don't know of any :). Also, it has not been used in a long time, perhaps 15+ years. Any suggestions/advice? Thanks.
9:31 This is a Shintom chassis. These can be found in certain Toshiba, GoVideo, Memorex, and White Westinghouse VCRs.
Will keep my eyes open for one to rob the sensors out of.
I have the service manuals, according to it the LED you are looking for I believe is an LN66A 950nm

I guess I am kinda off topic but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released series online?
@Andre Clay Ehh try Flixportal. You can find it by googling :D -mayson
@Mayson Kade thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it !
@Andre Clay happy to help :D

I remember the old 21 Pin SCART connector, and the bulky cables that it used, I wonder if they're still using these over in Europe.
Many TV boxes and converter boxes sold here still have a SCART output apart from the HDMI.
Yes, but only for SD equipment obviously. SCART is fantastic, I can get RGB from almost anything into my TV!
I use this exact MX-100 Multisystem VCR...still works great...

well we appreciate your knowledge hope them new shoes are working in keep them coming
I think the mode switch may need cleaning on it, also, that chassis is made by Shintom.
Better than the Samsung SV5000 Worldwide which has Samsung's proprietary tape chassis.
those were high quality vcr's and damn expensive too
My nationl panasonic nv 340 vcr capstone moter not runing what i do please suggested me or capstone drive sections daigram (schematic ) as available

Hard to say. These old units many times can not be economically repaired then there is the parts issue.
Try and let me know the result.
If I can find the right wavelength led and end sensors. This had been into before i got it years ago
Mode switch?
Please someone help me find new head for my aiwa hv-mx100u
Good luck finding a replacement head for any VCR.
If someone has the remote control of this machine and would like to sell, please let me know.
Hey I have one these that I am trying to get fixed. I emailed you please check your email
