Referring to the very beginning of your video: The Kidd was modernized much like all of the other Fletchers were. They back dated her to her WWII configuration, which a testament to the amazing work the museum has done with their preservation work. If I remember reading correctly, Kidd was chosen as the ship for the museum because she still had her pole mast, while most other Fletchers were updated to the tripod mast.
There are traces of the modernization visible, though. On the port side there’s a double break water for the dumb waiter hoist that was added in the 50’s. I’m sure there are others, too.

My Dad served aboard a Fletcher, U.S.S. Abbot DD 629.
Abbot served alongside Kidd at times and also served in Korea and into the 60’s.
No ice cream or AC on Abbot. My Dad slept up on deck between the stacks.
Abbot rammed an aircraft carrier that accidentally cut across the bow, and kept on sailing. Sadly 3 crew were killed and several wounded.

SLM God bless you guys for doing this video. I am medically disabled now and do not travel anymore. This video helped me see the USS Kidd up close for the first time. I will play her in game a little more :). I was last able to see the USS Hornet in 2018 in which my father was on with VF-11 Sundowners in 1945. After that i became ill in 2019 and retired.

Funny enough that you talked a lot about Hornet, The first time I ever got into history was when I got to go to board hornet back when I was a wee lad. I didn’t know my grandpa served on her (with the catapult crew) during Vietnam time until my parents explained to me. And that is how I got into military history.

Maybe the very small looking houses on islands in World of Warships are actually to scale after all! I saw a video on another UA-cam channel last night about the incident in World War Two where the British destroyer HMS Glowworm was engaging two German destroyers. The Germans set smoke screens to disengage, and only then did the Brits notice an enormous shape coming out of the mist. It was the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper. The British captain realized they were unable to escape, and had been damaged by a number of German shells. He gave the orders to ram the Admiral Hipper. HMS Glowworm inflicted damage on the Admiral Hipper but broke in two, and the design of the Admiral Hipper allowed for the damage to be repaired and the ship to remain afloat. The Germans picked up survivors, while the captain of the HMS Glowworm assisted as many of his weary crew as possible to be rescued. Finally, he attempted to climb a rescue rope himself, but was too tired to hold on long enough. He fell back into the sea and was never seen again. The German captain later found a way to get a message to the British Admiralty to recommend the captain of HMS Glowworm for posthumous honors for bravery. The Admiral Hipper was huge by comparison, so one can only imagine how daunting the sight of ships such as Bismarck, Turpitz, and the Yamato class battleships was.

USA Kidd's track of record seems like reason why it was chosen to be memorial/museum. I guess it had typical duty and fate of US ww2 destroyer.
A man can't imagine, how much sacrifice, labour, value, effort, resources was put in all these giants.
Single destroyer of weight of 40-50 heavy tanks of that time. And that was just one of smaller warships. Then fuel, ammo and everything else.
If these weapons could fight for freedom or whatever else without human losses and suffering.
That's why we have World of warships, right? ❤
