You're looking quite spiffy today! The tank's doing great, and the new herd of cories is awesome. No matter what fish I have at any time (except goldfish), I have to have cories in the tank. It's such a blast to watch them scurrying around, cruising the glass and dog-piling in corners.
I like the demo, sand is different and its helpful to see how you maintain it. Also, i really like the decor in this tank. The lace plant is cool as well as the rock barrier and the raised area in the back corner. Very nicely done!
Malaysian trumpet snails! At first I was upset when I found out they were in one of my tanks, but after I found out how they were fantastic substrate turners I put them In all my tanks.
I love panda corys!! I have one older girl that outlived her school sadly. I got her some new kids but they get sold too small and delicate. I finally have 4 stable juveniles and she absolutely loves having a school again. She lays eggs often so I’m hoping at least one of the newbies will be male hehe

This tank turned out great! I agree cory cats are very good for a tank with sand. I have a group of 9 Schwartzi in my 75 gal Blackwater and they keep my sand very clean. I never worry about over feeding as they clean up the scraps.
Soon as i saw you, i just thought, you look like sunshine : ) love your hair and colours! Also, can't get enough of the new fish, they're like a little travelling family 🤗

I've read a lot that the ph needs to be low and that you need RO water. I bet you they breed in your tank without all that!
Hi Rachel...i have a nano tank and I use a shallow fine black sand base..my tank is planted heavily w anubias/narrow leaf java fern ..trident java and the like..all are water column feeders. I also have dwarf tiger lotus........i get plenty of growth..I have purposely slightly overstocked the tank so that i get plenty of fish waste to satisfy the growth of the plants...all levels are great test wise...so its possible to somewhat overstock and yet have a balanced tank cause of the plants.......the black sand looks great...the hard scape is dragon stone etc and some brn lave stone..I feel balance between fish and plants can overcome "normal" stocking beliefs..........all is well.......balance balance balance...love you, Bob

Hi Rachel... Love the videos. Set up a second tank about 2 weeks ago, a 20G Long, and have it with a male Super Red Bristlenose and a female Long-Finned Albino Bristlenose, and some Neon Tetras. They layed eggs almost immediately, and the male has been protecting, then they hatched, and now have wigglers. Male is doing a great job keeping them secure in the cave. Egg sacks are almost gone, they are trying to swim, bouncing off the floor of the cave, lol. Can't wait.

love the channel. my bf and I started a nano tank together a few months back and your videos are inspiring us to do more with our current tank and others hopefully
Honestly, Cories really are very underrated algae preventers in my opinion. Lots of algae forms on the substrate precisely because it isn’t being touched, except maybe during a water change. Having even a little school of these guys constantly snuffling around the substrate turns the top level of it over constantly, which makes it much harder for something like cyanobacteria to take hold. I noticed I struggled a lot more with algae before I discovered these guys. Also, if you look at the Cories foraging closely, you’ll notice they kick up little bits of detritus into the water column, which makes it more likely it’ll be caught by the filter and removed. The less detritus in your tank, the less likely it is you’ll struggle with excess nutrients. I can’t imagine having a tank without them.
Personally i don't use the word 'cute' that often but i'm glad you said it about the Panda's. Apistogramma Cacatuoides and Corydoras Sterbai are my #1 fish. Just saying ;)

I use Osmocote Fertilizer as root tabs with my sand substrate. I only use sand and stones that are more bigger than what is considered gravel so I don't end up losing or accidentally removing the Osmocote beads. I have just an inch/inch and a half of substrate. I use just a few like one or two beads of the fertilizer per cluster of plants. Using one too many can cause unnecessary nutrients to be released and may cause more algae to grow. Fish or shrimp may nip at the bead but will leave it alone, if it becomes uprooted or exposed. About the anaerobic pockets forming, when detritus worms congregate within the sand, they will often cause a bulge to form which at times cause the detritus and other matter collecting underneath the sand to escape, such as root tabs as well. As a preventative measure, I would siphon underneath the sand every-so-often to prevent any detritus to escape into the water column. In my experience or at least my livestock's preference; they don't mind the dirt and debris at all, it just looks unsightly.
